Trainers for wedding outfit/ trendy / comfy

omega4ever · 30/07/2025 22:20

Im going to a family wedding soon and have a dress and jacket and bag all from vinted that I like. I want to wear trainers of some sort with my outfit... I have feet issues and can't bear the thought of uncomfortable shoes for 12 hours.

What trainers are trendy please ATM.
Either white or white and light or sky blue ... I like my old suede navy adiddas gazelles but they are quite battered and I think I'll treat myself to something new having saved on the rest of my outfit.

Please help. . Or suggest something else. I hate open toe sandles so these are not an option either.

I’ve been to 4 weddings this year and quite a few guests were wearing trainers. All dressed well and looked very stylish. A couple of women wore Vejas so these may work.

I haven't been to a single wedding, including my own, where trainers would have been out of place. I have no clue what anyone was wearing at mine, all I cared about was that everyone had a great time. Weddings just aren't that formal anymore.

I would have LOVED these as a tiny, skinny 19 year old!!! I must admit I still love them a bit now, but I think they’d not look so cute on my 50 something size 14 self.

They're very pretty. I honestly don't understand why you think a 50 year old size 14 couldn't wear them.

WigglesMadness · 31/07/2025 13:25

OP, what's your outfit like - style and colour?

I've been looking at new trainers, I have quite clumpy but very comfortable ones for walks, and I've been really impressed with the wide range of comfortable, neater trainers in the shops - the Addidas Samba type are everywhere now, Addidas seem to have about 15 different versions on the theme, slimfit suede in lots of colours.

I don't think you're being disrespectful, you're not planning on turning up in something grubby, you're dressing up!

dudsville · 31/07/2025 13:48

I think a person needs to actually be in, or aspiring to be in, the top tiers of society, or that very glam section of society perhaps, in order for this to matter so much. What will people think if we don't look like them? You see my choice of footwear as a sign of my respect of you? It's oddly controlling behavior.

Tigergirl80 · 31/07/2025 14:00

I love wearing comfortable trainers by for a wedding they are totally not appropriate. Some venues won’t even allow you in wearing casual footwear like trainers.

I think they call for a delicate body, or risk looking like a hippo wishing to be a ballerina- on me, anyway. I’d also probably get them filthy on first wear!

FunnysInLaJardin · 31/07/2025 14:09

these threads always make me laugh. The number of people who worry about what others think of them. Seriously, who gives a shit

I'm with you @omega4ever and would do the same. There are loads of great platform trainers around which would look fab at a wedding

Mind you, I'm also not one who think certain clothes are disrespectful, its just an alien concept to me

DJEvil · 31/07/2025 14:33

Those Pavers ones might be comfortable but they look horrendous!
I’d definitely wear trainers to a wedding. The last wedding I went to most of the women wear walking around barefoot as their heels were sinking into the grass. Then they were all dancing inside with filthy bare feet. So classy!

Madamblueshoes · 31/07/2025 14:48

I went to a very smart wedding and one woman was wearing trainers. She hsd replaced the laces with glitzy ribbons. She looked fab!

I very much doubt this wedding is taking place in a market town nightclub in the 90s.

BUMCHEESE · 31/07/2025 15:46

I think OP knows the bride and groom and if they are likely to be offended by her choice of footwear.

Honestly I'd be more offended if my wedding guests went and bought some shite shoes they'd wear once than if they wore their everyday trainers.

BUMCHEESE · 31/07/2025 15:46

Oh and I've worn trainers to every wedding I've been to in the last 10 years

Shufflebumnessie · 31/07/2025 15:47

I love my Skechers Bobs B cute (terrible name though!). They're quite dainty for trainers and so comfy. I've swapped the laces for elasticated ones so I can just slip them on and off (plus I think they look neater).
There are also other variations of the same shoe but I've not tried them.

They look good with a variety of outfits (although I've not worn them to a wedding).

I myself wouldn’t dream of wearing trainer’s to a wedding but I love comfy trainers and you do you. If you must wear them, try these from marks. They are dainty, and fabulously comfy. I have two pairs in both red and gold - it’s the gold ones I’m thinking of in this instance. They aren’t online but they may still be in bigger stores. https://www.marksandspencer.com/leather-stripe-trainers/p/clp60713051?intid=mobileapppdpshare

I ended up having to wear my spotless, brand new apple green gola trainers as an eve guest at a wedding as I arrived having driven in them to discover I only had one of my sling backs in my overnight bag...
I might have struck lucky with being an eve guest as lots of ladies had changed into trainers and flats - all funky colours. I only think it works (just) if they are brand new, perfectly clean and matching in the same way as you would heels.

Mode in Pele or Kate Spade or Carvella

thedevilinablackdress · 31/07/2025 16:29

Yes, it looks so much better and 'respectful' 🙄when loads of the women at weddings change from their 'appropriate' shoes into flip-flops (provided by the bridal party in the ladies loos).
And yes I know comfortable non-trainer shoes exist, but I'd much rather see folk in their lovely new powder blue Sambas than their bleeding sweaty feet in flip-flops as soon as dinner is over

MrsMoastyToasty · 31/07/2025 16:32

I've worn pink trainers to accessorise a dress from Whitestuff that had pink in it to a wedding.
I was also on crutches at the time.

BigGra · 31/07/2025 16:44

Box fresh trainers with a trouser suit is a great look, and can look very stylish and smart when done right.
The style of trainer would depend on the trousers, tailored ? wide leg ? cropped?
No need for embellishment and shiny things so as to fit the wedding brief, it just makes them look tacky.
Veja, air and grace, adidas bold ( if you are tempted by a colourful pair to compliment suit) are all decent recommendations to start browsing.

BigGra · 31/07/2025 16:48

Forgot to add. DD works at an exclusive wedding venue and said trainers and trousers suits are becoming quite popular.

Wedding attire threads here seems to be stuck 3 decades behind current fashion and trends.

PeonyBulb · 31/07/2025 16:54

I suppose some weddings are different to others

crack on and wear trainers to this wedding

I don’t think it matters which trainers you choose to wear. Trainers are trainers and no matter how you try to dress them up they will always just be a pair of trainers

The B&G will be happy to see you no matter what if you are very close to them. If not then you’ll just be the batty old aunt or something like that.

StanfreyPock · 31/07/2025 17:09

Go for it, I wore silver Geox trainers at my own wedding and danced the night away! Better than some horrible chesp pair if 'proper' shoes and something you will wear again. My wedding trainers also did miles around Rome, Naples and Herculaneum afterwards.
