Trainers for wedding outfit/ trendy / comfy

omega4ever · 30/07/2025 22:20

Im going to a family wedding soon and have a dress and jacket and bag all from vinted that I like. I want to wear trainers of some sort with my outfit... I have feet issues and can't bear the thought of uncomfortable shoes for 12 hours.

What trainers are trendy please ATM.
Either white or white and light or sky blue ... I like my old suede navy adiddas gazelles but they are quite battered and I think I'll treat myself to something new having saved on the rest of my outfit.

Please help. . Or suggest something else. I hate open toe sandles so these are not an option either.

This thread reminds me of shitty Y2K clubs - no to decent trainers but yes to a crappy pair of tacky blister inducing horrors.

As a host I'd never want my guest to suffer just for the sake of appearances.

I can't believe people are saying don't wear trainers and then linking to those Pavers monstrosities. Trainers look stylish at least.

Not all trainers look stylish. I concur re the Pavers shoes, though.

Justthethingsthatyoudointhisgarden · 02/08/2025 12:04

I'd be more than happy for someone to wear trainers at my wedding! I'd personally go for Addidas, they're got some great colours at the moment.

I will be wearing trainers for the evening of my own wedding and guests have been told to wear whatever makes them happy. Weddings don't have to be formal. How dull if everyone looks the same.

FreebieWallopFridge · 02/08/2025 12:49

It isn’t rude to wear trainers to a wedding. Some of the replies to OP on here though…..

I think it would be inappropriate to wear trainers to a wedding. Surely you can go to Clark’s etc and get some nice comfortable flat shoes

Why is it inappropriate? 'Trainers' are such ubiquitous footwear now that there's a whole range from smart simple leather ones that are practically indistinguishable from regular shoes, to technical trail shoes with straps and knobbly bits. Noone is suggesting OP goes in 5 year old ASICS that have been up a few Munroes

Exactly

You could also swap the laces on your trainers for long ribbons so it'll add a satin touch.

Itsnottheheatitsthehumidity · 02/08/2025 15:51

My daughter wore a lovely emerald green dress and DMs to a wedding about three years ago. She looked great!

I also prefer trainers as I have bloody awkward feet. I remember the days when Lily Allen used to wear nice trainers with dresses and she looked great. Not scruffy at all. There's plenty of people I see in London wearing suits or dresses with very posh trainers, it's trendy.

I have bad feet/knees and flat shoes like converse or mary janes are superbly uncomfortable, I would be hobbling by the end of the day. I think trainers are absolutely fine IF they are brand new and super clean and go with your outfit. Lots of good suggestions here. Go for it!

Blondebrownorred · 02/08/2025 16:29

Trainers are definitely OK for weddings nowadays. No way would I be shopping in Pavers or Clarks for shoes. Hideously frumpy shops.
Op take a look at Adidas Speziales. They come in loads of different colours and are very comfortable.

hoohaal · 02/08/2025 16:31

I’m not the sort of person to normally say this, but I do think it comes across as a bit disrespectful to wear trainers to a wedding.

I think if I’d only read the bit about your foot problems, then I’d think less of an issue but the ‘rebel’ comment seems like you want to stand out at the wedding.

I’ve looked at some of the suggestions though and I do think the idea of silver or silver glittery etc sound nice and more appropriate.

My opinion ok it was asked for and I gave it

Dollyparot200 · 02/08/2025 17:29

I would wear trainers and if you want to go for it, there are some gorgeous ones around and in lovely colours 😍

omega4ever · 02/08/2025 18:10

Thanks for all the suggestions . I'm happy to report that I am now the proud owner of a brand new pair of beautiful comfortable trainers that perfectly match my dress, jacket and handbag combo and I think look great.... as does my DH. I dont think I'll change the laces to ribbon.... I'll just keep it very simple. They even make me feel an inch taller which is a bonus!

Im so pleased that I'll have comfortable feet for 12 hours and can enjoy the day as intended.

Its been very interesting to hear all theses different views and opinions. Thank you all and especially the positive and empathetic amongst you.

As I said upthread I think the B &G will be absolutely fine with whatever anyone is wearing. They will just be glad to share their day with friends and family having fun.

Excellent choice!

I have red ones with pink stripes. They are very, very comfy and always get complimented!

Wow, rude or what! You go in your clumpy cart horse trainers and be laughed at, who cares.

The OP isn’t the rude one here.

bouncydog · 03/08/2025 08:11

For the future if you do decide you would like to try comfortable shoes, have a look at sole bliss. For people with foot issues that want normal looking shoes. Worn by loads of celebs of all ages.

Onmywayhometonight · 03/08/2025 10:11

I can’t wear shoes either op - my feet would be in ribbons - I wore trainers to dds graduation and was enormously relieved that I wasn’t in agony all day. And when I was told that the dress code for women at a private members club was heels, I followed the men’s dress code and wore flat boots - they have since changed the dress code to allow women and men to wear trainers.

GlastoNinja · 03/08/2025 11:02

Whenever anyone suggests ballet pumps or Mary Jane’s on these threads it makes me sad, but to have those Pavers suggested is just awful.

OPs description of them is perfect.

OP wear the trainers and have a lovely time.

Good for you :) Like you, I was surprised at the shock/horror expressed about the prospect of your wearing trainers. If I was ever married again (I won't be, 30 years into this one and I'd not do it again, haha!) the last thing I'd be concerned about would be my guests choice of footwear. I'd just be wanting my guests - my dearest friends and family - to be comfortable and able to join me and have a jolly good time! Enjoy the wedding :)

Good grief - I hope this wasn't this century!

AgualusasL0ver · 03/08/2025 14:17

I think you have had some odd responses OP. I wouldn't care what you wore, and I have been to weddings where the bride wore trainers.

I have feet issues and a wedding this weekend. I happen to have some very comfy sandals, but my sparkly gold super gra were not out of the question. The bride will see I made an effort with my dress, hair etc (and my trainers to be honest).

Do check out supergra if you might consider metallics.

Ezzee · 03/08/2025 14:17

I have several pairs of these as they are the most comfortable trainers I've ever worn and so soft, don't need breaking in, I could go on...
Wore these to a 'posh' party with a lovely maxi dress https://www.onitsukatiger.com/gb/en-gb/mexico-66-sd/p/1183a872-111.html

There’s nothing rebellious about wearing trainers, unless you’re a child sneaking off to school in them when mummy and daddy think you’re in your school shoes.

If you really, really have to wear trainers (and I think you shouldn’t unless the bride and groom have made it clear that it’s really casual) then check out the Puma trainer/ballerina mix up.

'there’s nothing rebellious about wearing trainers, unless you’re a child sneaking off to school in them when mummy and daddy think you’re in your school shoes.'

I have to agree. I was taken aback at the sentence - ..'.and im a but of a rebal too so I think it will look cool.' Really? Are we in 1985 or 2025? It has a 'Back to the Future' vibe. How old are you OP?
