Trainers for wedding outfit/ trendy / comfy

omega4ever · 30/07/2025 22:20

Im going to a family wedding soon and have a dress and jacket and bag all from vinted that I like. I want to wear trainers of some sort with my outfit... I have feet issues and can't bear the thought of uncomfortable shoes for 12 hours.

What trainers are trendy please ATM.
Either white or white and light or sky blue ... I like my old suede navy adiddas gazelles but they are quite battered and I think I'll treat myself to something new having saved on the rest of my outfit.

Please help. . Or suggest something else. I hate open toe sandles so these are not an option either.

I'm going to backtrack what I wrote earlier.
Wear nice trainers for your comfort, not because you want to be a "rebel".

A wedding is not the time and place to rebel. It just comes across as attention seeking.

It wouldn't even be an effective rebellion tbh. Noone will care. Maybe there will a mumsnetter there who does.

There are pretty and weddingy - though maybe not rebel enough for you OP!

Looking at these makes me think that, if you don't want to waste money on shoes you won't wear again, you could always fancy up a pair of normal trainers with organza or satin ribbon laces.

I would have LOVED these as a tiny, skinny 19 year old!!! I must admit I still love them a bit now, but I think they’d not look so cute on my 50 something size 14 self.

BakingMuffins · 31/07/2025 10:32

A man was wearing trainers with his suit at a wedding recently. Anything goes these days.

BUMCHEESE · 31/07/2025 10:37

I wore trainers to a wedding a few weeks ago, most people didn't but there were others also in trainers. These are cool people who just won't compromise on their style to fit convention.

The styles included:

Comme des garçons converse

Nike air max in a colour to match dress

Suede Cortez, baby blue

I wore ones a bit like these:

Hoff have a sale at the moment and have some pastels. They're very comfortable.

Shrug off the judgements @omega4ever, there're a lot of critical folks about here.

Deadringer · 31/07/2025 10:47

Op i have foot problems too and live in trainers, a lot of people have suggested flat shoes like ballet pumps but I would be crippled in those, they are too flat and i the need the cushioned heel and soles that good trainers provide. I dont have any suggestions except find a pair that you love that are comfortable and wear them with pride.

mumonthehill · 31/07/2025 10:54

I recently bought asos retro silver trainers and they are not chunky but look quite good. They are comfortable.

Yeah they are quite girly! But nowt wrong with being a big/old girly 😁I'm 5'10 and in my 60s, but still like to indulge that side of me on special occasions. And being trainers, they do have a kind of built-in edge. Hmm, might have to investigate these myself...

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 31/07/2025 11:25

@deadringer- obviously OP is only interested in trainers, but it might be worth you trying on some of the fitflop “ballet” shoes/mary Jane’s, they do have proper cushioning and support. Would say support wise it’s like a fashion trainer support (rather than something designed for running/sport that has thicker cushioning). Just an option for you if you want to have something to go with a more delicate dress.

I’ve heard good things about their sandals as well, my friend has some and said they look nicer than most walking sandals but basically as comfy as walking sandals. (Have not tried them myself.)

Galliano · 31/07/2025 11:28

onitsuka tiger Mexico 66 are very comfortable and quite a neat trainer though not pretending to be anything but a trainer

i went to a wedding last summer where I didn’t have the option of trainers and wore these: https://www.cos.com/en-gb/women/accessories/shoes/balletpumps/product/buckled-ballet-flats-ivory-1224988002
which were honestly not uncomfortable for the entire day. Since Covid I struggle with anything but trainers comfort wise so was pleasantly surprised.

Wow, rude or what! You go in your clumpy cart horse trainers and be laughed at, who cares.

The ones you linked are hideous though.

Ginmonkeyagain · 31/07/2025 11:34

Superga do a lot of brightly coloured and metallic trainers which could look good if matched to an outfit. www.superga.co.uk/womens-metallics

Ginmonkeyagain · 31/07/2025 11:36

Mr Monkey wore some suede HOKA trainers to a wedding last summer and he was the best man - no one fainted in shock.

Deadringer · 31/07/2025 11:37

Thank you FancyBiscuitsLevel my foot issues are varied and complex but I will have a look at fitflops, I know many people swear by them.

dizzydizzydizzy · 31/07/2025 11:43

Just wear a pair of proper shoes. Comfy options exist. Its one day

It's not as simplistic as you think.

Having foot problems isn't just about comfort, it's suitability and fit.

As an example one of my issues is the area where the toes join the main part of the foot. If the top of the shoe creases here it can make it almost impossible for me to walk.

I have worn the same trainer for the last 5 years, buying multiple pairs of the exact same model and year.

I made the mistake of buying the updated version and it has changed enough that it wasn't suitable for me any longer.

It's only recently I've discovered fitflop and bought a pair of their ballet flats I can wear for a couple of hours at a time!

Jaduria · 31/07/2025 12:17

omega4ever · 30/07/2025 23:19

I've set my heart on trainers.... they really are the only comfortable footwear I own.

I know it's unconventional but for me comfort trumps everything...and im a but of a rebal too so I think it will look cool.

Yeah, I’d be really annoyed if someone turned up at my wedding in trainers. It’s disrespectful.

Under-dressing at weddings is a pet peeve of mine. People spend thousands on food, drink and entertainment and invite people to witness a major life event and guests can’t even be bothered to dress smartly?

There will be some smart shoes you could wear that are comfortable. You just want to be rebellious and try to look ‘edgy’.

Kipperandarthur · 31/07/2025 12:18

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2025 08:33

These are ideal. Really good option.

mycatismyworld · 31/07/2025 12:19

https://www.modainpelle.com/trainers-c168.plenty of choice here. I love this brand, beautifully made too

PropertyD · 31/07/2025 12:24

Sorry but it’s rude and disrespectful- it’s a wedding and I promise you won’t be seen as rebellious. More like a bit of a twit

TheLeadbetterLife · 31/07/2025 12:32

This thread is bananas. Insta-obsessed bridezillas aside (and I think they're largely made up in AIBU anyway), weddings are normally pretty anything goes these days. Trainers are absolutely fine, and much better for OP to buy something she'll wear again. Can't believe people suggesting she buys a pair of cheap shoes to wear once just to the ceremony—so wasteful.

Also, trainers aren't seen as simply athletic gear anymore. If they're suitable for the office and smart restaurants, they're suitable for a wedding.

Jumpthewaves · 31/07/2025 12:37

Sorry @TheLeadbetterlife , I've never used Instagram in my life. I just think that trainers aren't good manners at a wedding ceremony. I had a very relaxed wedding and many of us changed into trainers later in the day for French cricket, but I think the effort should be made for the ceremony. Many workplaces and smart restaurants do not allow trainers. Op is allowed to do what she wishes, but several of us have said we would find a comfy alternative.

Noone thought I was a twit.

In fact I got compliments on my trainers from randomers who didn't know I'd had a foot op.

Agree this thread is quite bonkers in places.
