Trainers for wedding outfit/ trendy / comfy

omega4ever · 30/07/2025 22:20

Im going to a family wedding soon and have a dress and jacket and bag all from vinted that I like. I want to wear trainers of some sort with my outfit... I have feet issues and can't bear the thought of uncomfortable shoes for 12 hours.

What trainers are trendy please ATM.
Either white or white and light or sky blue ... I like my old suede navy adiddas gazelles but they are quite battered and I think I'll treat myself to something new having saved on the rest of my outfit.

Please help. . Or suggest something else. I hate open toe sandles so these are not an option either.

I love trainers but don’t think I’d wear them to a wedding. What about a pair of comfy ballet pumps/mary Janes?

omega4ever · 30/07/2025 23:19

I've set my heart on trainers.... they really are the only comfortable footwear I own.

I know it's unconventional but for me comfort trumps everything...and im a but of a rebal too so I think it will look cool.

I’m sorry I’m all for comfort but I’m sure everyone else at the wedding will not think it’s cool just very out of place

ExponentialDelivery · 30/07/2025 23:53

I'm all for comfort too but I wouldn't wear trainers to a wedding unless there was a specifically casual dress code. I would also suggest ballet flats or Mary Janes.

SouthernNights59 · 31/07/2025 00:12

I'm the most casual person around, but even I wouldn't wear trainers to a wedding. There are lots of comfortable flat shoes/sandals available.

Moveoverdarlin · 31/07/2025 00:19

I love trainers. I wear them to work every day and since Covid have even worn them on big nights out, which I wouldn’t have dreamed of ten years ago. I have Gazelles, Sambas, lots of Nike Air, few Converse. No way would I wear them to a wedding. No one wants to be uncomfortable, but it’s a wedding! Can you not wear flat, smart sandals? They won’t be uncomfortable.

If you’re not budging, I would go for smart platform trainers. Russell and Bromley do them with a large platform and no laces so they look really smart, but they’re ££££. Dune also do them and are much cheaper.

I have problems with my feet and have been wearing trainers almost exclusively for years (except for funerals) until I found fitflop.

They are amazing, feel comfortable like trainers but have so many different styles and often have sale items.

If your heart is set on trainers I believe coloured suede trainers and new balance 530s according to my young adult dcs.

Lifestooshort71 · 31/07/2025 07:17

If you really really have to wear trainers, have a look at these. They come up small but feel like the softest leather and aren't as clumpy as regular trainers

Thanks I'll have a look at fitflops and like the sound of the coloured suede trainers too. Are the chunky platform type ones what your young adults like atm? I will also look at NB .

A wedding is not the time and place to show off your rebellious streak. It just makes you look like a bit of a tit.

I also have feet issues, but I have managed to find flat comfortable shoes that are smart enough to wear to a wedding or other smart function.

Pavers are a good call.

Thank you for your suggestion and I appreciate the link ..... but I really dont like these at all.... and would never wear them again .... unlike trainers .
They look very old fashioned and frumpy. But im sure they are comfy but they look like something my grandma might wear with big bunions poking through.

I am set on wearing trainers... I know it's unconventional but I dont want to buy shoes I won't wear again... I have done this too too many times.

Wow, rude or what! You go in your clumpy cart horse trainers and be laughed at, who cares.

Jumpthewaves · 31/07/2025 07:33

Its not unconventional, it's disrespectful and rude. Why not buy some cheap proper shoes for at least the ceremony and then change into your trainers afterwards?

BCBird · 31/07/2025 07:35

My friend was the bride and wore trainers. She had them embellished. You could not see them.under her dress. The main reason she did this was for dancing later.

thedevilinablackdress · 31/07/2025 07:40

I saw a lady in around her 80s returning from a wedding recently ( I could tell because the person with her was clearly carrying a table decoration they'd been given) She was wearing a type of trainer in hot pink that matched her handbag and looked great.
I think people should be less upright about wedding attire in general, and there are plenty of 'smart' interesting trainers. Look at Camper or Ecco

thedevilinablackdress · 31/07/2025 07:41

*I mention her age because older people have often got over the need to conform and do what suits them!

Westfacing · 31/07/2025 07:41

I have these from Geox - light gold. They're comfortable and look lovely.

A few months' back I was my grandson's plus one when he went to Buckingham Palace for the DoE Gold Awards celebrations - I wore a dress and these trainers which have since been reduced by £40!

I wore white Converse dainty to a wedding, as the bride.

My teenager is currently wearing Adidas VL Court platform trainers, they come in some lovely pastel colours.

JaninaDuszejko · 31/07/2025 07:44

My DC love Nike Air Force 1. You can get them with a pastel tick so you could get your sky blue in that way. However, you might get less disapproval if you go for an unbranded trainer and I agree with the PP that suggested a colourful trainer rather than a white trainer. Are you wearing a floral dress? In which case definitely avoid white trainers.

I don't think trainers are a complete no no though, my aunt wore trainers to an open air wedding at Dunnottar Castle, she (quite sensibly) wanted shoes that were suitable for walking on uneven ground.

Blarn · 31/07/2025 07:46

You could look at some white Toms type ones, more like a pump (are we allowed to reference that footwear now!?). I did see some satin Adidas in Schuh the other day. They also do liberty print ones.

For a seemingly non controversial question you’ve had some interesting replies @omega4ever!

My daughter got married a few weeks ago and she and her sister both wore trainers for the evening - as did I. Mine were visible, and whilst not as lovely as my heels earlier in the day they didn’t look horrific, and certainly weren’t disrespectful (odd thought) and meant I could dance and celebrate with my family as opposed to hobbling around - a win win surely.
I’ve got no trainer suggestions I’m afraid, but I hope you find a pair that you love and have a great time at the wedding.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2025 07:53

There’s nothing rebellious about wearing trainers, unless you’re a child sneaking off to school in them when mummy and daddy think you’re in your school shoes.

If you really, really have to wear trainers (and I think you shouldn’t unless the bride and groom have made it clear that it’s really casual) then check out the Puma trainer/ballerina mix up.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2025 07:56

We used to use ‘trendy’ as an insult as teenagers in the 80s. It always makes me smile now when people want to look ‘trendy’. Grin

Steelworks · 31/07/2025 07:57

Can you wear something like this?

I brought these from New Look and they’re surprisingly comfortable. Come in two colours.

Have a look at offbeat sweetie, rocket dog and love lemonade - I’ve had smarter/more interesting trainers from all of those.
