Trainers for wedding outfit/ trendy / comfy

omega4ever · 30/07/2025 22:20

Im going to a family wedding soon and have a dress and jacket and bag all from vinted that I like. I want to wear trainers of some sort with my outfit... I have feet issues and can't bear the thought of uncomfortable shoes for 12 hours.

What trainers are trendy please ATM.
Either white or white and light or sky blue ... I like my old suede navy adiddas gazelles but they are quite battered and I think I'll treat myself to something new having saved on the rest of my outfit.

Please help. . Or suggest something else. I hate open toe sandles so these are not an option either.

I wore trainers in the evening of a wedding recently. Heels in the day and then changed into blush pink and white Adidas gazelle for the evening. I was also at a different wedding recently where people were in docs and converse but there was no dress code specified for that and no formal ceremony (the couple did that privately the day before).

Its not unconventional, it's disrespectful and rude. Why not buy some cheap proper shoes for at least the ceremony and then change into your trainers afterwards?

It's not rude. She's not choosing trainers out of laziness or disrespect for the happy couple. She's choosing them because she has foot problems and can't physically wear smart shoes for the duration of the wedding.

I very much doubt the bride and groom will either a) notice OP's footwear or b) take offence. They'd probably just think, as surely most of us would, that she must have issues with her feet.

My post does seem to have caused a mix of opinions which I didn't expect tbh.

Im very surprised... ive mentioned to a few friends and family members who will also be at the wedding that I intend to wear "nice" trainers and had no such reactions in real life. They seem very tolerant and understanding. How lucky am I!!

The wedding has no dress code...its a church then a meal then a dance.

My family will be glad of my company im sure and probably no one will look at my feet much during the day or night.

Im travelling to wedding... im not carrying about on public transport in London a bag with a change of shoes.

Im certainly not being disrespectful to the wedding party as I love the B&G very much and I really dont think they will give a hoot what im wearing.

I have previously bought shoes for weddings and doos and been very uncomfortable and never worn the shoes again... its such a waste of money and cripples me and makes me unhappy. I can't wear heels at all ... Including wedges....if it was a winter wedding it would be much easier and I'd wear boots of some sort . I dont find ballerina shoes attractive or comfy as no support.

Some of you people are very funny about weddings it seems.

But thanks to the few who get it and are being more helpful and less rude.

Just wear a pair of proper shoes. Comfy options exist. Its one day

Good shout. Similar to the hot pink ones I saw the woman wearing recently with a matching bag.

OP - I’ve got these fitflop ballet pumps and they are so comfy and supportive https://www.fitflop.com/uk/en/shop/delicato-bow-soft-leather-ballerinas-p-HX8#A69

they say they are as comfortable as trainers, I’d say possibly not as you can’t wear socks with them really so might rub first wear, but as someone who wears trainers a lot, they are comfy.

I think I’d go for the Mary Jane style if I was buying again/paying full price (I got thr ballet pumps on sale).

I think you can only really go trainers to a wedding if your dress completely covers your feet. Weddings are a formal occasion and while we have got a lot less smart as a country over the last 5 years, this feels like a step too far.

OP wear the trainers!
People really are bizarre. No one will care what are on your feet, and at least you will be comfortable.

Have a fabulous time!

Hoppinggreen · 31/07/2025 09:00

I have slip on plimsol (but chunkier) style trainers in both gold and silver from Hush, they would be fine for a wedding I think.
They have these but mine are less chunky

Some of the suggestions on here are hilarious. OP is right, you'd expect to see someone's great grandma in them. Or second hand gathering dust in a charity shop.

It's perfectly acceptable to wear on trend trainers, a dress and a jacket to a wedding nowadays. Not sure if people are just stuck in the past where weddings were a huge, formal affair and all the guests were judging each others footwear choices but it really isn't like that in a lot of cases anymore.

The bridge and groom won't care. OP isn't turning up in pyjamas.

There are plenty of fashionable trainers nowadays, nobody's rocking up to a wedding in their dog walking trainers or walking shoes.

MixedFeelingsNoFeelings · 31/07/2025 09:02

There are pretty and weddingy - though maybe not rebel enough for you OP!

Looking at these makes me think that, if you don't want to waste money on shoes you won't wear again, you could always fancy up a pair of normal trainers with organza or satin ribbon laces.

It amazes me on here how many ‘rules’ there are about weddings! When I got married my SIL wore a flimsy slip dress and flip flops, she was hot and 4 months pregnant. I didn’t care at all and it wouldn’t have crossed my mind that it was inappropriate or rude 😂 my best friend wore all black, she was 9 months pregnant and it was the only smart outfit that still fit her, I was just happy to have them both there they could have worn a bin bag! Wear the trainers and be comfy - enjoy the day

I saw a very cool young woman wearing these in black recently and googled them as soon as I got home. I’m wondering if I could get away with them for work, bud sadly think not.

Radioundermypillow · 31/07/2025 09:52

Haven't read the comments but I wore Victoria c80? I think they are to a wedding last year after a foot operation and they were so comfortable I now have 3 pairs. Lovely pastel colours.

MiddlingMarch · 31/07/2025 09:53

Superga - they do super shiny versions of their lace up trainers. Ive had pairs in gold, silver and lilac. So shiny.

But they are quite flat trainers so depends on whether you need support?

Radioundermypillow · 31/07/2025 09:56

sorry they were Smash by Victoria

The ones I got had silver on them.

Radioundermypillow · 31/07/2025 09:57

I wore a long boho style green dress and didnt feel in the least bit out of place. Posh wedding too!

I have pink platform supergas with wide ribbon laces, they might work

I went to a funeral once where someone was wearing those five-toe running shoes. Please just don’t wear those!

They are so ugly.

Not loving those weird Pumas either.

toadinthebucket · 31/07/2025 10:19

OP, wear trainers. It's not rude or disrespectful. People are unlikely to notice and if they do they seriously will not care. Why would they? I'm wearing trainers (new, clean) to a wedding next month. I have no time for uncomfortable shoes or wasting money and the planet's resources on shoes I won't wear again. No help on the style though, I have a pair of apple leather trainers, white but with a terrazo patterned sole that I intend to wear.

Ilovemyshed · 31/07/2025 10:24

@omega4everI’m pretty conventional on dress codes but its 2025 and we don’t bother so much now. Wear trainers if you need, it would not have bothered me at my wedding IN THE SLIGHTEST!

(sorry haven’t got any recommendations)

RampantIvy · 31/07/2025 10:27

I'm going to backtrack what I wrote earlier.
Wear nice trainers for your comfort, not because you want to be a "rebel".

A wedding is not the time and place to rebel. It just comes across as attention seeking.
