Trainers for wedding outfit/ trendy / comfy

omega4ever · 30/07/2025 22:20

Im going to a family wedding soon and have a dress and jacket and bag all from vinted that I like. I want to wear trainers of some sort with my outfit... I have feet issues and can't bear the thought of uncomfortable shoes for 12 hours.

What trainers are trendy please ATM.
Either white or white and light or sky blue ... I like my old suede navy adiddas gazelles but they are quite battered and I think I'll treat myself to something new having saved on the rest of my outfit.

Please help. . Or suggest something else. I hate open toe sandles so these are not an option either.

After breaking a bone in my foot last year, these were a great discovery this summer .. https://www.converse.com/uk/en/shop/p/chuck-taylor-all-star-dainty-ballerina-leather-womens/A16208C_050.html?frt=26 so comfy (and I’ve never really found converse comfortable) that I bought them in black too. Ideal for when I’ve not wanted to wear trainers

Tuningfork · 01/08/2025 11:38

Just my ha'penneth....I generally don't give a sellotaped zebra what people wear. With two exceptions. Weddings and funerals.

If you turned up to either my wedding or my funeral wearing trainers, with no better reason than 'they're comfortable', I'd be really, really pissed off.

Why? What is it that upsets you about this? Why should people not be comfortable in these situations?

Yeah, I’d be really annoyed if someone turned up at my wedding in trainers. It’s disrespectful.

Under-dressing at weddings is a pet peeve of mine. People spend thousands on food, drink and entertainment and invite people to witness a major life event and guests can’t even be bothered to dress smartly?

There will be some smart shoes you could wear that are comfortable. You just want to be rebellious and try to look ‘edgy’.

What a ridiculous accusation. OP simply wants to feel comfortable and smart trainers are a thing - you don't have to like them, but they are. Were you/would you be a bridezilla, by any chance?

When I got married I was happy to have my loved ones around me and wanted them to feel comfortable for the day. I don't think I looked at anyone's feet for the whole day and it didn't even occur to me to try to dictate what they wore. At all. Other brides may want to issue a dress code and that's reasonable up to a point, but valuing perfect wedding snaps over the comfort of guests is messed-up thinking imo.

Incidentally, wedding guests spend quite a lot attending a wedding too. The expense is not one-way traffic and wedding guests are not props for some kind of Insta-perfect set piece. Everybody has the right to prioritise comfort and no one should feel obligated to rush out and buy something new, especially if they know they'll never wear it again.

These?

Minor derail here, but oh my, those Gazelles. I had some burgundy Gazelles delivered literally yesterday which I am already in love with, but I'm lusting after these now 😄lovely colour.

Yeah they are quite girly! But nowt wrong with being a big/old girly 😁I'm 5'10 and in my 60s, but still like to indulge that side of me on special occasions. And being trainers, they do have a kind of built-in edge. Hmm, might have to investigate these myself...

I love these! Are the soles very thin though?

if someone was not 'suitably' dressed at your funeral you would know nothing about it!

I went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago during the really hot period of weather.
I was not happy to wear uncomfy shoes for 12/13 hours, and my feet had swelled so much with the heat, they would have been even more uncomfortable.

I wore these (zoom in as they have a pretty pattern embellished on them)...
https://www.rocketdog.co.uk/products/chow-chow-white-elsie-eyelet-trainers
(Worn with a dress)
Honestly, they were so comfortable...right through the day and for the dancing in the evening!
I didn't feel out of place as no one was even looking at me - they were looking at my beautiful friend getting married!

Pretty much all the other women and girls at the wedding changed out of any heels as soon as they got to the reception and were popping on flip flops, trainers and even DMs for comfort.

I like those. Those and the Converse ones linked to are old fashioned what used to called p l i m s o l l s [weird spelling because that word causes an automatic ban].

aintnospringchicken · 01/08/2025 13:39

I personally wouldn’t wear trainers to a wedding ceremony, but it’s up to you OP what you wear and feel comfortable in.As soon as the reception meal is over I take off my shoes/sandals and put my trainers on ready for a night of dancing. I’m in Scotland and all weddings I’ve been to have a session of ceilidh dancing. You can’t do a strip the willow in heels .
Its up to you what you wear on your feet OP.

The OP has issues with her feet. I have a lot of problems with one of my feet believe me your wedding would come second to my comfort! I couldn't tell you what people wore to my wedding and I think it's sad that people pay so much attention.

OP, I wore similar to these to a wedding last year. They looked fine with my dress and were comfortable. Mine are a few years old and have rose gold trim but the leopard print ones would have gone better with my dress!

I love these! Are the soles very thin though?

"The triple-layer sole provides optimal comfort with each step, ensuring all-day wearability" says the website blurb.

Haven't tried them myself, but Vivaia are supposed to be hot on comfort and support for tricky feet, and they're not particularly cheap, so I'd assume they'd be fine.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/08/2025 14:31

If you’re going to wear trainers, then own it. Don’t hide behind low profile/slim line/trainers that are trying to look like sandals.

I HNRTFT but i think Gazelles have come up. https://www.adidas.co.uk/gazelle-bold-shoes/JQ7776.html the “bold” platform style is so comfortable, and comes in loads of colours. I get compliments every time i wear them!

justasking111 · 01/08/2025 14:50

Friend the bride wore Jimmy Choos all day. At night she slipped into a pair of silver trainers. I saw gorgeous ones at Schuh in silver or gold on display.

omega4ever · 30/07/2025 23:19

I've set my heart on trainers.... they really are the only comfortable footwear I own.

I know it's unconventional but for me comfort trumps everything...and im a but of a rebal too so I think it will look cool.

I wore a pair of Air&Grace trainers/pumps at a wedding a couple of years ago. No biggie.
They were quite expensive and they probably cost more than most of the other people's shoes at the wedding. No one commented, I am best friends with the mother of one of the brides too x
Wear what you want.

Some of the suggestions on here are hilarious. OP is right, you'd expect to see someone's great grandma in them. Or second hand gathering dust in a charity shop.

It's perfectly acceptable to wear on trend trainers, a dress and a jacket to a wedding nowadays. Not sure if people are just stuck in the past where weddings were a huge, formal affair and all the guests were judging each others footwear choices but it really isn't like that in a lot of cases anymore.

The bridge and groom won't care. OP isn't turning up in pyjamas.

There are plenty of fashionable trainers nowadays, nobody's rocking up to a wedding in their dog walking trainers or walking shoes.

It depends on the wedding and the friend group, surely?

I'm not being "stuck in the past" to say that most of the weddings I've been to people HAVE still dressed up and trainers would have been very out of place. However I've also been to weddings where they would be fine, even expected, and where someone dressed up to the nines in heels would have been the one standing out.

I dont think you can say "absolutely" one way or another. What would be "absolutely" fine in one wedding would be completely out of place for another. We accept that expectations, customs and dress codes vary in pretty much any other social situations and events, why not weddings?

Op who actually knows the bride and groom is the only person who can say for sure. I think what people are reacting to is that she ISNT saying its the type of wedding where trainers will be expected and common - she's (particularly in her first posts before she clarified saying she doesn't think the b&g will care) was only saying she is a a "rebal" and "unconventional" and prioritised her own comfort over anything else. Which was why people were criticising her.

However I do agree that lots of the "compromise" suggestions are pretty hideous and trainers would probably be better than them.

abracadabra1980 · 01/08/2025 17:37

There’s some nice options here OP. Have a scroll through.

thepastinsidethepresent · 01/08/2025 17:40

So many lovely trainers on this thread, I'm going to have to keep my bank card stashed firmly away! (and I never even used to like trainers! 😂)

You will have no idea who will turn up wearing what at your funeral because you'll be dead and will have no capacity to be pissed off.

Why does it cause an automatic ban? Weird.

I love that style of trainer - the Bensimon type. I have some from Natural World Eco with rubber soles that smell like bubblegum for some reason. Nice, though.

Dearover · 01/08/2025 19:56

I was at my BiL's wedding last week. My SiL (lots of brothers in the family) wore Rocket Dogs with a dress and looked lovely. Various nieces and friends wore trainers or DM boots. It really does depend on the type of wedding.

PistachioTiramisuLimoncello · 01/08/2025 20:20

Why don’t you get some metallic Birkenstocks OP? Super comfy but a bit more glitzy than trainers?

I can't believe people are saying don't wear trainers and then linking to those Pavers monstrosities. Trainers look stylish at least.
