This company has been going for years;

MsDastardley · 22/06/2025 06:28

Thanks @IlovePond and @MadameBethune just had a quick look. There’s some good options there.

She’s going to a wedding soon so I have said I will buy her a pair from Esska once she’s picked outfit. They have some lovely vegan styles, but maybe not for work!

AmethystMoonShine · 22/06/2025 08:36

Thank you for the new thread @IlovePond
Hope to pop back this evening after visiting family have left to share my sales wins and losses so far….

ToastCosILoveIt · 22/06/2025 09:23

Updating on my first sales parcel, most of which is going back.

I ordered the tessellated cardigan in both colours as, the bone and the navy, both are going back. I particularly disliked how the sleeve gathered at the cuff (evident now i look in the photos, but I hadn’t noticed it), and they both felt rather acrylic as opposed to wool/cotton mix, and I couldn’t get that out of my head.

The Helena Rohner porcelain ring is a putrid shade when looking at my skin tone, so that’s going back too.

The black cotton linen twill smock dress with the light stand up colour (was £345, down to £170) is lovely, and it is sculptural and skims the body, but as reviews said, it is incredibly long and sort of swamped me. I decided I am a good way there to paying for the new pleated cotton linen dress I bought with that money so that is what I have done.

Finally, the cotton poplin wrap shirt is going back. I like it, but not enough, and at the cross over bit it is transparent enough to see the wrap bit underneath which I didn’t like. I am sure this could be styled beautifully but it runs the risk of looking like a PJ shirt if not styled correctly.

I am keeping the quilted cotton linen wrap top in Tilia honey colour. This one is a bit of a surprise but I think it will earn its keep in colder weather and could also elevate a darker dress or look good open over a simple shirt. I am also keeping the buttoned cotton organic dress in duffle green for the moment but have to see how I can make this work. If you are buying this, size down, they are huge. 10 is good for me with plenty of space.

Countmeout · 22/06/2025 09:39

@ToastCosILoveIt is that the dress I , too, have bought but in navy. I am interested to see how you style it. I am currently debating whether or not I need it in my wardrobe.
I think for me it would have to be as a coat, I tried it over skirts and wide legged crops yesterday and like the effect. But I feel quite ‘dressed’ if you know what I mean. I’m very conscious so many people dress so casually now and I’m retired so wonder if my wearing opportunities would be limited. I also tried it on its own with the belt and a pair of heavy Mary Jane’s (Cos) . It looked really lovely I think but again not my lifestyle possibly. Too dark and formal for a wedding, maybe good for a funeral 😬 more likely possibility. But it’s quite flattering and I expected it to look like a sack with the belt. I bought the 10 and have a bust and it is an excellent fit. Usually I need a 12 with a bottom.

Countmeout · 22/06/2025 09:39

🤦‍♀️ agh. Button. Button not bottom.

IlovePond · 22/06/2025 10:13

@ToastCosILoveIt - thanks for your feedback on the items - I like the look of that green cotton dress myself - interesting that you and @Countmeout have found it comes up big.

Toast sizes still seem all over the place. At least when EVERYTHING was huge, we sort of knew where we were. Now, some things are tiny, some are tts and others are still massive!

Thanks for the new thread @IlovePond . Enjoying everyone’s feedback on their sale buys.
My 2nd parcel arrived yesterday:
The Propagator Green pull on trousers are a perfect fit in my high st size, and a really good length. Great for use as an everyday trouser.
The men’s thistle/ putty jersey polo shirt - DH is really pleased with this and at that price comparable to m&s.

ScottishMouse · 22/06/2025 12:33

@ToastCosILoveIt i tried the tessellated cardigan a while back. I thought it would be a great easy style, but it felt cheap and horrible, and the arm seams were bulky and irritating. I really couldn’t believe the quality, especially for the price. Shame, as it could have been great.

Countmeout · 22/06/2025 12:36

Is anyone having difficulty with the returns portal today?

QueenJaineApproximately · 22/06/2025 23:19

Thank you for the new thread @IlovePond

BettinaInDenmark · 23/06/2025 12:12

I haven't been looking at enabling posts here for a long time, planning that 2025 would be a no-buy year... that lasted until I got the Toast e-mail about easy access to the sale.
I ended up placing two giant orders last week, and the first one has apparently landed today in my local parcel shop. I know it's crazy, but I kinda hope that at least the beautiful green silk dress will make me look like a clown ;)

OftenOrange · 23/06/2025 12:15

Second parcel and off to Toast to return:
Navy side tie padded vest …too big and would recorder smaller but not sure I’d wear it much , too bulky to go under coat .

Catrin white cotton shirt … a sale bargain but too big and I don’t like the feel of this thick soft cotton . As it’s no longer in the sale but full price I’m wondering if the sale ones were a cheaper fabric run ?

Stone short sleeved linen dress …like it on but it’s not me so I wouldn’t reach for it.

Success with

Navy Cotton Compact Utility jacket in my usual Toast 8
Love this and it’s a comfortable relaxed fit but looks neat and Ive found Toast jackets to be my best sale buys , they look unusual and contemporary .

OftenOrange · 23/06/2025 12:28

Change of heart with padded Indigo gilet, just ordered in XS !

ScottishMouse · 23/06/2025 13:17

Just received my last sale parcel. I ordered the cross back check linen cotton dress again as the first one I got just didn’t sit right at the back. Sadly this one is the same and I fear it is me, not the dress itself. It isn’t too tight, but somehow my bust makes it sit weirdly at the crossover bit. I am now debating whether I should just give up on it. It is otherwise so lovely though.

IlovePond · 23/06/2025 13:51

@ScottishMouse - I have been thinking of ordering that crossover dress, but I am thinking it won’t sit right on me across the chest. Thanks for your feedback - I think it will have to give it a miss. Shame, as it’s the style that suits me, otherwise.

Has anyone here got a Kantha coat, (not the short jackets)? For some reason I am toying with ordering one, although I know that one I would get would look nothing like the pictures.

I have too many Toast gowns already, so, ideally, would want to wear a Kantha outside as a coat.

Has anyone worn theirs outside and not felt they were out in their dressing gown?

Thanks

ScottishMouse · 23/06/2025 14:01

Weirdly it is fine across the chest on my @IlovePond, but it kicks out in a weird way at the back. I could really do with a flattering sleeveless summer dress and otherwise, this is it, so I need to try it another time or three to decide.

IlovePond · 23/06/2025 14:05

Ah, thanks @ScottishMouse

I too ended up returning the Catrin shirt. I think it's a beautiful style, the sleeves and cuffs are lovely. I also really liked the thick cotton, but it's very white somehow, and I'm not sure I can carry that off. It was also too big, and I felt like I just needed a paint palette and a beret to set it off. I think getting the right size would dispel the artist's smock look, but I'm not sure I can be trusted with something so very white.

OftenOrange · 23/06/2025 16:45

@OrangeyLemon I just went to Toast and the assistant explained that the sale shirts were from a previous run and that they’ve since tweaked it somehow.
I tried it in XS but it felt too neat and yet still billowy in the body .
The cotton is finer too.

AmethystMoonShine · 23/06/2025 17:06

I've just returned form the post office with four large parcels of returns. I am trying to hard to be more selective with my purchases, especially at Toast prices.

Successes have been the Brushed Cotton Linen Herringbone Trousers and Top - these fit like a dream and will be worn a lot.
A second pair of the Dobby Indigo trousers - lounging clothing at its best.

Maybe - the crinkle cotton easy shirt in Oat - the long side splits make this very wearable. I've got the M but have just ordered a S to try. The M is good but I'd like to see if just a bit smaller might look better? Will keep one.

Gone back - Handwoven crosshatch kanthan gown - beautiful but the way it ties means it just hangs in a shapeless way. If it had a proper belt or just more scope to make it fit, it'd have been a keeper. But for nearly £200, no.

Darted cotton twill trousers in russet and the green - I have these in 12s but they are far too big. So of course, the 10s are so much smaller I can't get them over my hips! Back they go too. Shame.

Seed pod top and shorts - loved the print but the shirt buttoned too high and the shorts weren't that comfy.

Dobby skirt - just looked awful on me.

Tessellated cardigan in darkest navy - contrary to others, I liked this. However, the seams ARE chunky and it is a bit of an odd feel. I can see what someone meant when they said it felt acrylic. However the style fitted me so well. It's gone back but I've decided I'd order again if it was further reduced.

Hemp cotton canvas trousers in dark chambray - I had wanted these to fit like. dream, but alas no. Meno tummy with my generous hips meant they didn't look as special as they did in my head.

Finally, the Quilted cotton long gown in soft caramel - I was gutted about this one. It is beautiful and thick and soft and I loved it....only the colour looked absolutely terrible on me. For £150 it needs to suit me at least. Praying they make this again in an olive or a blue or a rust or something to suit an Autumn.

I've just put in another order for:

Cotton linen herringbone trousers in green
Cotton linen herringbone jacket in green
Denim pinafore in black but down a size as mine sold out, so doubtful.
Crinkle cotton PJs in soft Olive - hoping to love these.

Gosh that's a lot....

Oh that is interesting! I wondered why it was full price in the shop!

Stoic123 · 23/06/2025 18:54

@IlovePond . I've bought two kantha coats - one now sold and one kept. I'd wear the kept one out but would not have done so with the sold one (it just looked more like a dressing gown). I think it really does depend on the pattern you get - pot luck.

I've not worn the kept one out as it gets loads of wear indoors. I love it.

IlovePond · 24/06/2025 01:15

Thanks @Stoic123 - I am tempted to give one a go.

Just to say, I ordered a kantha coat in greens yesterday morning. I thought about it at the start of the sale, but they went out of stock quite quickly I think. They reappeared yesterday. I’m assuming they might be returns? Or unsold stock from shops? Anyway, might not be the most appealing colours, but I am sometimes drawn to strange stuff, so I’m waiting for delivery in anticipation and hope 🤣
