Hi,

Here’s a new thread!

Thanks for the lovely jewellery suggestions @IlovePond I think jewellery might be the thing, and I will browse these brands.

@AFingerofFudge i always said I would get a tattoo for my 50th, but i have decided against it, because 1. I am so fickle I would choose something that I would later dislike, and 2. I have an autoimmune condition which can flare up if unusual things happen to my skin, so a tattoo could be a disaster.

CakeAndJazz · 29/06/2025 11:00

Hi @ScottishMouse, I celebrated a birthday last month, and whilst I always prioritise experiences (going out for a meal/special theatre visit), I couldn’t do that this year. I’m an unsentimental person when it comes to ‘things’ and I don’t like dressy things - so I managed everyday things that bring joy. A pair of Sally Lacock silver earrings - after not wearing any jewellery for over 4 years, I wear them almost daily now. A scented candle from Toast. A linen dressing gown, worn at home when, like today, it’s too hot for clothes. I also love the idea of an illustration/small piece of art on my chest of drawers. And I always value beautiful ceramics - a flower frog for some wildflowers or a coffee cup for a morning coffee. Just some general ideas personal to me…and I also second the suggestion of tattoos (I have a couple and would always want more), but not always possible due to health reasons.

Primrosespaw · 29/06/2025 11:23

@ScottishMouse I bought some up cycled diamond and gold studs a few years ago from one of Toasts new makers. I am a firm believer in a bit of jewellry for a treat.

After conversing with Jodie on istagram, she also comes across as a lovely person.

A friend of mine who is based in Byron Bay makes beautiful Australian opal jewellery. I have a ring from her and she is currently making me a pendant to celebrate another year teaching high school.

I have had one more look in the sale and ordered the following.

Mulmul lounge dress in sand. Hoping it isn’t too transparent.
Hemp tank top in anise.
Columbian cooking pot.

This is to go with..

Iris linen top
Cubitts sunglasses

All in all probably the least I have ever bought in the Toast sale.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 29/06/2025 11:28

@ScottishMouse I always like to buy something special for the garden if I’ve been gifted money. An arch plus the roses to grow over it is my next wish. I did get a really lovely expensive bird bath a couple of years ago.

As to my latest sale purchase, I am sending back the burnt ginger nightdress, I love the fabric but it doesn’t have shoulder seams and is gathered into the neck band instead. I know it will annoy me intensely so it will have to be returned.

OftenOrange · 29/06/2025 11:38

@ScottishMouse What a delicious quandary!
I discovered Bonnie Powell jewellery through seeing it on Toast , she has very simple minimalist designs which I find very well made and stylish. She makes small runs which sell out quickly .
I have my eye on this simple gold necklace , and look it’s made casting a Scottish shell!
( Just ordered another pair of her silver hoops after looking at this !)

@ScottishMouse - for my last big birthday I think I had some piercings done with fancy diamond labret jewellery but if that's not your cup of tea, Dyptique do a really lovely diffuser in glass, and a couple of electric ones - if you like their home fragrance. Then you can get refills so it's not a one off like a candle. There'd be enough left over for some beautiful roses if you're a gardener, or something big in a huge fancy pot

CakeAndJazz · 29/06/2025 12:30

Oh gosh @OftenOrange, Bonnie’s jewellery is beautiful!

IlovePond · 29/06/2025 12:39

I really like that jewellery @OftenOrange and @Primrosespaw.

Unfortunately, decades of me indulging my magpie tendencies mean that I really mustn’t/shouldn’t get any more jewellery 🙀But some of those pieces are seriously tempting!

My hugely expensive and totally unnecessary sale order is coming tomorrow. I am hoping the nightie and pjs are nice because I could - just about - justify passing those over to DH to give me for Xmas/birthday. Left to himself, he buys interesting things! (Some of you may remember that he accidentally wrapped up a crumpled, somewhat tatty item I had picked up at a Toast exchange and put away for washing last Xmas 😹 so he sort of owes me!)

Thank you everyone for all the lovely ideas to spend my birthday money on. I have decided that jewellery is the way to go. I am going to spend some time browsing all the links here, so thank you!
In return I offer you this…according to my local store today, a big drop is coming on Thursday! So save some sale pennies!!

ellequick · 29/06/2025 20:51

Hi all, I wondered if I could ask for opinions please. I ordered the hand stitched cotton tie vest in the sale and it’s got a pull at the front. It’s tiny so I don’t know if I am being unreasonable to complain, but my eye is drawn to it I think because it’s right in the middle! I emailed customer support and told them and they have replied that I would have to return the one I have and purchase it again as they don’t do exchanges anymore. This means paying twice for postage which doesn’t seem fair. I wondered what others thought? Perhaps it’s to be expected with a hand stitched item but as I say, it looks quite noticeable to me. I’m disappointed as I like it otherwise. Am I being a fusspot?

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 29/06/2025 22:10

@ellequick I couldn’t live with that either, also as it’s faulty I would think your postage should be refunded. You may get a more sensible answer if you ring cs in the morning.

IlovePond · 29/06/2025 22:20

@ellequick - I agree with @Theteapotsbrokenspout and second calling CS tomorrow and, if they also suggest that you pay your own postage, go down the: ‘I am very disappointed; this is not the sort of service I expect from Toast’ route and see what they have to say to that. I’d probably also throw in a comment about how sad you are to see quality control standards slipping, as well!

Toast CS are usually more helpful than the people on Chat, (who are sometimes quite ‘snippy’ ime).

I love the red Kantha @AmethystMoonShine .

@ScottishMouse I got these earrings for my big birthday this year - the lady who makes them is Japanese but works in Seville. They were not expensive and I had a city break as well. As they are porcelain I am a bit wary about when I wear them.

My final parcels came.
the pouring bowl is beautiful and bigger then I expected.
I bought the dress with the cross over back. I knew what the fabric was like as I have the trousers. I did not size down and am pleased how it fits. It is quite long will debate whether I need it to go up an inch or two.

Toasties enjoying the sale and the sunshine!
ScottishMouse · 30/06/2025 12:27

They are lovely @Countmeout. I love porcelain jewellery. I have a fab porcelain pendant from a Japanese maker who sadly no longer does jewellery.
How do you find the back of the cross back dress? I am still withering about whether to keep mine. I thought maybe it would sit better if I stitched it together, but I stuck a couple of pins in to see and that didn’t make much difference.

Countmeout · 30/06/2025 13:12

What part is not sitting @ScottishMouse ?
I think mine is sitting ok but I think I have a broadish back and definite shoulders. I tried it the way some people say they have in the review , back to front. It works too but I’d need my hair longer to have it that way as I feel a bit naked in front.
did you size down ?

ScottishMouse · 30/06/2025 13:16

I did try the size down @Countmeout , but it was too tight on the bust. It sort of sticks out a bit where the cross back meets the skirt part. I may be being overly fussy though, I feel like it could be the kind of thing nobody else would notice!

IlovePond · 30/06/2025 15:12

Grr! I was waiting for my Toast parcel only to receive a message saying RM tried to deliver and couldn’t. They certainly haven’t tried to deliver anything to me - nothing on RING plus windows and porch wide open and I’m in my front room! I’m assuming it’s a ‘dog ate my homework’ kind of excuse and the parcel has never left the Sorting Office.

I’m particularly grumpy today because my phone service has been out for a week and o2 are apparently incapable of sorting it out. Plus, not only did my f/f break last week, but JL delivered the one I bought as a replacement with a heavily damaged panel and expected me not to care.

Oh well!

Btw: There has been a limited restock on the Toast site. I want to order a couple more things, but I don’t think I should order in anger 😹

OftenOrange · 30/06/2025 16:08

What beautiful earrings @Countmeout
@ScottishMouse What a pity about the cross back dress ,I think you’re probably the only one to notice but if you feel it’s wrong I guess it won’t go away!
I have something with the same back from 4 yrs ago and I do pin it .

My last parcels have arrived ,
Successful buys : Navy pleated skirt, the one with elastic waist and flat front.
I ordered the smaller size as all that was left and it’s great.
Bought to wear with the padded side tie Indigo gilet which I’m really happy with .

Returning the same skirt in green , and also 2 cotton suntops, v neck and a bit flared. Far too skimpy for me.

Countmeout · 30/06/2025 18:07

Thank you @OftenOrange .

@ScottishMouse i think I see what you mean. I tried it on again. I may resort to a pin too. I’m now wondering what a smaller size would look like as it’s quite roomy but it’s OOS. Toast should provide larger pins with every garment because I have quite a number I pin.

ScottishMouse · 30/06/2025 20:16

Oh I didn’t mean to put you off it @Countmeout. I think I am also put off by the idea of having my arms out, and - I didn’t really realise this until I tried it on and saw the back - also my back!! I have a bit of a tailor’s hump and my back is less than toned, and so not super happy having that much of it on show. I think all of this together with how it hangs meaning may well return it. It has been sitting in my wardrobe since it arrived almost 2 weeks ago, and despite having had warm enough weather for it, I have not reached for it. Probably a sign.

Poplinskirt · 30/06/2025 20:56

My parcels arrived

Vibae mules -too wide and too flimsy for the type of running around I do , the footbed didnt feel deep enough

Striped Linen/ cotton Barrel leg trousers -incredibly itchy fabric, lovely shape but so itchy ,I don't have particularly sensitive skin but they were unbearably whiskery like sack cloth
Such a shame

Smocked poplin nightie -lovely and it rustles pleasingly
Denim shirt dress -a surprise hit
Perfect for throwing on with sandals and sunglasses and being done, not for hot hot weather but 20s
Really like this, much softer than the usual Toast denim.

Raised stripe nightie -perfect

@ScottishMouse I love the fabric of that dress but I would be concerned about the sun hitting my back and bra etc showing

ScottishMouse · 30/06/2025 21:03

@Poplinskirt yeah, I am also wondering about the sun on my back given that I would only wear it when it is warm and sunny. Though I am the weirdo always sitting in the shade and walking on the shady side of the street! It does look good with a cardi, so I wonder about keeping and wearing for more of the year, but realistically I usually reach for trousers in other seasons. I have the trousers in the same fabric, so I should maybe just stick with those.
Are the stripe barrel leg trousers the fairly new ones? I had my eye on those but that sounds disappointing about the fabric.

You are not a wierdo at all!
Have always been a shade lover and am very fair.

Given the weather we are getting these days 34 here today , it surprises me Toast went with so many sleeveless and also this backless design
I want my upper back, shoulders and arms at least partially covered but not with a cardigan.
Yes the new ones
They are a lovely shape but hairy 😂
That's a bit of a clanger from the design team

ScottishMouse · 30/06/2025 21:27

Hairy trousers really do not appeal so I will give those a swerve.
I think I will return the dress to store later this week when the new stock arrives, so I can have a good look at that. I got some very generous gifts of Toast vouchers for my birthday which was a complete surprise, and I am off on holidays at the end of the week, so a new something lovely would be delightful. If I return the dress then I have only bought one thing in the sale (albeit the quite expensive Ikat jacket).
