Sainsbury’s jeans 😲

My mate was wearing a lovely pair of barrel leg jeans so I asked her where she got them. Sainsbury’s, she says, £22. So I went and got some for myself. First day out in them today and another woman asked where I got them, said they looked really nice on. And I wore them all day and they’re the same size now as when I put them on (marginally more relaxed but they haven’t grown a couple of sizes like jeans sometimes do).

Very impressed. When did this happen to Sainsbury’s? Are there other gems in the Tu department that I should look out for??

What are dealer boots?

Like short yard boots with the elastic sides

OP your thread is dangerous to my bank balance!! I’m now eyeing up their T shirts as I need to refresh mine. I like Cos t shirts for their thickness and quality. Obviously they’re £30 a pop not £5 like Tu but are the Tu basic T shirts (every day or slim fit versions) decent quality? I like quite a thick T shirt, especially if they’re white.

My OH wears the men’s ones and he wears them hard, and for years. I got a boxy t for myself the other day reduced to clear, but I haven’t worn it yet. The fabric feels nice though and quite thick.

Whoever it was who pointed out that it’s the darts in the knees that really makes these jeans- you are spot on. I never liked those carrot jeans but these are just a bit different and so much more interesting (and flexible- they don’t restrict movement at all!).

I have a question now, when I got mine I also tried on a pair of size 12 which fitted but were a bit snugly around the hips. I bought the 14 which were generous, and was pleased that they haven’t stretched out. Now I’m thinking about getting the mid blue ones (yes, I know I’ll have to hurry 😂) but I’m wondering if I ought to go smaller. And I know I’m being silly as am pleased with the fit of the indigo ones… can anyone tell me if the mid blue ones stretch out or keep to their size?

Mine haven't stretched. They were a generous 12 and are still a generous 12 a good few wears later!

My Tu barrel legs have just arrived (thanks to this thread!) and they are FABULOUS. Great fit, the denim quality is terrific, obviously can’t say how well they’ll wear but I’ve had jeans ten times this price that haven’t worn well (Frame jeans, £200 and the stitching came loose after the second wash)

My heart belongs to my Whistles barrel legs (£95) so im amazed how much I like these at first meeting!

Really, really impressed by weight and good ratio of softness and stiffness of the denim.

as others have said they come up large, I’m often a 12 in bottoms and the 10 are perfect. I have regular length too and they hit just below ankle bone so they’re def on the long side (compared to the whistles ones which hit just on/fractionally above the ankle) but I have short legs for my height (5 foot 8) so I’m not surprised by that. Glad I didn’t get long length.

Thanks everyone who gave T shirt advice too! All noted and gratefully received.

Thank you OP!

Their summer shorts have been excellent the last few years. I had a few pairs of denim Bermuda shorts, and last year the roomier ‘boyfriend’ shirts, I think. Excellent, and very cheap.

Cotton pants: hard wearing and good value.

I bought a dark blue tweedy looking winter coat about 7 years ago, it still looks as good as new, it is really warm and I love it. They have some lovely stuff in here, got a pale pink jumper just before Christmas that washes really well and have bought baby stuff for my friend's little girl and the quality was excellent

Normallynumb · 29/01/2025 16:04

All my denim Bermuda shorts are from Tu. I bought the first pair 10 years ago
Granted, they don't get much wear during UK summers
I have picked up lots of the same on Vinted for a couple of ££ too
Great quality denim for the price

Almahart · 29/01/2025 16:26

I ordered a rubberised raincoat on the back of this thread. It arrived this afternoon and is great. Looks far more expensive than it was and will be properly waterproof unlike useless protected species mac

My thickest T-sgirts are from Uniqlo and are the best quality T-shirts I have ever owned.

The downside is their muted range of colours.

What is their sizing like? I'm usually a 12.

What are dealer boots?

Imagine Wellies and Chelsea boots had a baby, but someone cheated and they looked a bit like DMs.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 29/01/2025 20:17

Always get compliments on their clothes.
Got a proper corduroy skirt that's lasted years.

Ohnobackagain · 29/01/2025 21:51

Years ago one of my most favourite pairs of jeans was a ‘Jeff Banks for Sainbury’s’ pair (think it was JB). Cheap as chips and lasted me ages! Was very sad when they eventually fell apart. I have two pairs of Tu denim bermudas - they are excellent, too, @AlertCat

My favourite little black dress of all time is from a Gok Wan range for Sainsbury’s!

Greentrilby · 29/01/2025 22:27

I love their knickers. Comfy, pretty, nice colours and wash well.

I tried doing this and the Tu t-shirts are nothing like as good as the Cos ones, nor are Uniqlo as mentioned above. I’m resigned to buying just one new Cos t-shirt each year.

I appear to have purchased the leopard print jeans due to this thread when I went to Sainsbury's yesterday to buy a yoghurt Grin

I looked at those. Do they have the darts in the knee like the denim ones? I have to stop buying things, though, I have been so good for months just churning clothes on Vinted so spending no real money and now have just splurged like a shopping addict 🙈

Ordered those jeans, they’re arriving today! Sainsbury’s should pay you commission, OP 😂 (assuming you’re not already a stealth influencer)

MaggieFS · 30/01/2025 07:05

Influencers don't do stealth, do they. It's all "look at me". OP is more likely to be the buyer smashing her annual target. Which is fine by me if she's making the decisions!

WinterFoxes · 30/01/2025 07:07

I wanted a really thick warm lumberjack shirt to wear for a practical workshop I was attending. Saw the one I loved online but it was £150. Shopping in Sainsbury's I saw a similar one. Just as warm and thick with a subtle pattern. £25.

treacletoffee23 · 30/01/2025 08:36

The quality of Sainsbury baby/toddler range is fab
The boys range manages to be a bit different in design but still practical - also a bit more colourful than other supermarket boy ranges- and so convenient

I wish, I could use the money 😂
