Sainsbury’s jeans 😲

My mate was wearing a lovely pair of barrel leg jeans so I asked her where she got them. Sainsbury’s, she says, £22. So I went and got some for myself. First day out in them today and another woman asked where I got them, said they looked really nice on. And I wore them all day and they’re the same size now as when I put them on (marginally more relaxed but they haven’t grown a couple of sizes like jeans sometimes do).

Very impressed. When did this happen to Sainsbury’s? Are there other gems in the Tu department that I should look out for??

Ooh this is good intel. Also, I complimented a school mum on her coat the other day, thinking it was a Barbour - she said it was £20 from Tesco!

My most complimented jacket was a lovely olive green waterproof style from Tesco. Still wear it in spring/early summer. Must be about 6 years old now.

I personally love TU clothes. I particularly like being able to grab jeans and know they fit because, at last, a label that says "short leg" and actually is! They do a really good range for petite sizes in general. 👍

I bought some awesome retro green trainers from TU and they are amazing. I love them!

I know the ones! I had my eye on them but decided I didn't need any more trainers. They are lovely.

MillyVannily · 28/01/2025 22:04

What a coincidence! I also randomly saw an ad and order a few dresses for my dd ... they are gorgeous and were super cheap! At least one affordable place!

notnorman · 28/01/2025 23:11

I had an amazing thermal long sleeved top and done gorgeous burgundy cord jama bottoms recently. And a woman was trying on a raincoat with furry hood that looked so lovely I had to tell her - and she bought it!

alwaysontheloo · 29/01/2025 06:56

This actually reminds me of a parents evening where I wore a TU cardigan I loved and realised halfway through that the teacher I was talking to was wearing the same cardigan as me. 😂 The actual meeting wasn't going well and it wasn't particularly a laugh it off situation and neither of us said a word about the cardigan situation which IMO made it worse! 😂

Whoever it was who pointed out that it’s the darts in the knees that really makes these jeans- you are spot on. I never liked those carrot jeans but these are just a bit different and so much more interesting (and flexible- they don’t restrict movement at all!).

I have a question now, when I got mine I also tried on a pair of size 12 which fitted but were a bit snugly around the hips. I bought the 14 which were generous, and was pleased that they haven’t stretched out. Now I’m thinking about getting the mid blue ones (yes, I know I’ll have to hurry 😂) but I’m wondering if I ought to go smaller. And I know I’m being silly as am pleased with the fit of the indigo ones… can anyone tell me if the mid blue ones stretch out or keep to their size?

I bought a lovely black faux fur coat at Christmas which looks so much more expensive than it it is. I always get lots of compliments when I wear it & my little nephew has threatened to steal it! 😀 it's very soft and cuddly.

OP what shoes are you wearing with them? I can imagine flats/loafers in summer but it's January and I'm only wearing boots at the moment!

I'm 5ft3 and to be honest have almost given up being able to buy trousers. They are all far, far too long. Have had to wear leggings for about 5 years now. 20 years ago I was Miss Average Sized and now I appear to be too short for any trousers to actually fit.

MrsPeregrine · 29/01/2025 08:01

Are most of the posters who are a fan of this style tall and waif like by any chance? I can’t see them looking very flattering on dumpier shapes. I’m 5ft 4 and an 8-10 but think these would make me look bigger. I’ve seen some other mums wearing this style on the school run but they are all tall and slim so I think that’s why they can carry off the look.

Dealer boots and the trousers rolled to sit just above. I quite like rolling up my jeans at the moment but I do meet a lot of mud day to day!!

not at all, but wide shouldered and big buster, so I feel this gives my shape more balance and a bit more ‘in and out’ at the waist, which can easily get lost as it’s thick in proportion to my hips.

What are dealer boots?

ClairDeLaLune · 29/01/2025 08:54

I love Sainsbury’s jeans! They’re so comfy and look so good. I’m tall and their Long fits me perfectly. Plus I’m a size 14 there and I’m not always, so win win!

LoafofSellotape · 29/01/2025 09:13

RampantIvy · 28/01/2025 07:26

And I am tall, not hugely so (5'7" ) and most of their jeans and trousers are too short on me Sad

It's a shame because I have bought several good quality pieces from Sainsbury's over the years.

I'm the same and nothing is quite long enough for me but Asda clothing is a bit longer ime.

Clawdy · 29/01/2025 09:14

Black loafer style shoes that look exactly like Skechers, but a fraction of the price!

unmemorableusername · 29/01/2025 09:16

What's the difference between barrel leg & wide leg?

Are they meant to be as short as they are in the picture?

Ficklebricks · 29/01/2025 09:16

Maybe I'm just out of touch but barrel leg jeans just look so silly to me. It reminds me of toddlers wearing their siblings oversized dungarees.

What are dealer boots?

The kind of boots you buy from DIY shops.

evtheria · 29/01/2025 10:01

My favourite jeans are by Tesco Grin AND I even own some Levi's, including a pair of vintage ones!

ShadesOfPemberley · 29/01/2025 10:38

OP your thread is dangerous to my bank balance!! I’m now eyeing up their T shirts as I need to refresh mine. I like Cos t shirts for their thickness and quality. Obviously they’re £30 a pop not £5 like Tu but are the Tu basic T shirts (every day or slim fit versions) decent quality? I like quite a thick T shirt, especially if they’re white.

Growlybear83 · 29/01/2025 10:42

I've been wearing Tu jeans and bras for years, and find the jeans really well fitting and hard wearing. Their lacy underwires bras are a perfect fit for me, and they usually bring out new colours every few months, with matching knickers.

If you have a large Primark, in the men's section they have a specific 'premium' line that does extra thick plain cotton tees in different fits. They're about £10-15 each, and I think the label says Kem or something like that.

Not compared to Cos, no.

BabCNesbitt · 29/01/2025 11:25

The one thing I found disappointing in Tu was their t-shirts, actually - quite thin and the collar twisted after one wash. They’re fine for wearing under a jumper for WFH but I don’t wear them if I’m going out.

I've seen them. They are lovely.

These are lovely too. Very Toast/ knit your own lentils style.

Tu red pumps

Thanks for posting this link - I am now the proud owner of a pair of the softest, lightest, most cheerful red shoes. I wore them to deliver a Year 9 assembly this morning and actually got compliments from the kids - this is previously unheard of!
