Sainsbury’s jeans 😲

My mate was wearing a lovely pair of barrel leg jeans so I asked her where she got them. Sainsbury’s, she says, £22. So I went and got some for myself. First day out in them today and another woman asked where I got them, said they looked really nice on. And I wore them all day and they’re the same size now as when I put them on (marginally more relaxed but they haven’t grown a couple of sizes like jeans sometimes do).

Very impressed. When did this happen to Sainsbury’s? Are there other gems in the Tu department that I should look out for??

What are you all wearing on your feet with these jeans? I bought some and think I like them, but none of my footwear looks right…

I agree on high tops but also like with a flat leopard print Mary Jane and no socks. Too chilly for it just now but have been wearing in the house!

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 06/02/2025 07:55

I bought the 16 and 18 in R and they were both too big. Hoping the 14 fits better.

In reality, I’m between a 16-18 but as I’m an hourglass, I don’t think normal rules apply!

Ankle boots (flat and heeled), or my trust Vans with long socks.

potplantsinparadise · 06/02/2025 11:17

Size 16 hourglass here - the 16 swum on me, but still sit on my wider hips for a baggier look, the 14 are snug. Am wearing them with ankle boots (slim Chelsea), pointed flats, and trainers with long socks. Bloody love them. Havering about getting a final pair to dye black.

Goldleafcat · 06/02/2025 11:45

Interestingly I’ve shown these jeans (and other similar styles) to both my DH and some friends and none of them seem to like them.

But.

I think the style is growing on me!

I’m a size 18 (in the gradual slow process of losing weight) and wide leg trousers tend to look awful on me - make me look bigger than I am. But I’m tired of living in leggings and the odd pair of bootcut jeans. I’m tempted to just give them a go. I’m 44, I feel like fashion wise I’ve been living under a rock for a while now. Have been in the newborn / toddler / back to work / dealing with various crap phase and now starting to try to piece myself back together 😂

Any suggestions welcome on what is in now please! (To suit a size 18, 5ft 6, longer bodied but shorter legged lady!)

(I believe white trainers and dresses are out. Which is a shame because they are comfortable!)

Goldleafcat · 06/02/2025 12:11

Update - I’ve just ordered some. Have braved a 16S based on some of the feedback on here (and if a bit tight they’ll give me incentive)

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 06/02/2025 17:13

Because I’m very suggestible, and because I really rate my other Sainsbury’s jeans, I ordered a pair of these (got them at a reduced price of £15.40, for some reason).

I went for the 10R, which just sit on my ankles - possibly should have gone for long length but worried they’d trail on wet pavements (and I don’t do heels).

I can’t make up my mind if I like them or not! I love wide leg jeans, but because these taper at the ankle I worry I look a bit like someone’s inflated my trousers with a bicycle pump.

DH, who wouldn’t normally baulk at telling me I look ridiculous, thinks they’re “fine - bit different, but look good on you.”

So I don’t know whether to keep or return. They were only £15 though…

AlertCat · 06/02/2025 17:53

It’s funny isn’t it I tried on some ‘carrot jeans’ a few years ago and couldn’t get them off fast enough, they were awful! These I feel may be the dart in the knee which gives them a bit more shape, or interest or something.

I got the 16S and they were fine at first but did stretch out a bit through the day. Managed to find a pair of 14R half price in store today though and they're perfect! Length is actually still fine. I like them - thanks for this thread, OP.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 06/02/2025 18:29

Well I’ve taken the labels off and I’m wearing them out tonight, so I guess I’m keeping them!

They look better with my high top Converse than the boots I tried them with earlier, tbf.

sweetpickle2 · 07/02/2025 10:49

Got the leopard print ones- they're not quite the same fit, they're more snug around the waist, they dont have the darts in the legs, and they're ever so slightly shorter. I'm keeping them as I really like the print and am in the process of losing some weight so they'll fit better in a couple of weeks, but it's annoying when like for like doesn't fit the same!

henlake7 · 07/02/2025 12:22

I can also recommend the Primark barrel legged jeans. Its quite a subtle barrel leg and hits me on the ankle (5'5).
I finally decided to get some as I realiesed all my other trousers were wide legged in some way so surely Id like barrel? (I do!).
Currently wearing a pair of black balloon legged trousers I call my 'Charlie Chaplin pants' so clearly looking like a twat in baggy trousers doesnt bother me at all!😆

Gingernan · 07/02/2025 19:56

Their clothes are so good. Our local one has never had changing rooms but I live very near so returning is not a problem. I recently bought some lovely soft wide legged jeans 70 percent off.

I also have BuddhaPants and other harem type trousers so I am with you on being a twat in baggy trousers 🤣

Inspired by this post I ordered some (sheep!). I ordered the 12r (am between sizes) and there was far too much material between waist and crotch. They looked ok but not quite right. So I took them back today - there none the same in a 10, so I picked up the leopard barrel and relaxed dark denim barrel both in a 10. Love love love the leopard which fit perfectly. Not quite sure about the denim ones as they are more barrelish but still nice. Think I just need to get used to a new shape. Denim ones are tighter on the waist too

TaterTots68 · 08/02/2025 15:26

So following this post, I went to have a look at said jeans in Sainsbury's but I just couldn't bring myself to buy any because they're such a funny shape. I've got quite chunky thighs but little calves and tiny ankles so I think they might look ridiculous on me

lefthandedoctopus · 08/02/2025 18:19

I just picked mine up, and was excited to try them on... and they look hilarious on me, like I have the body of a woman and the legs of a balloon dog.

Talisin · 09/02/2025 18:22

Just managed to grab the rubberised raincoat when it briefly came back in stock in a medium today. Already have the jeans - baaaa.

WhatWasPromised · 09/02/2025 19:07

I’ve been influenced! I’ve bought the black, barrel leg cargos and I love them!

Ooh so glad to read this! I had the L and had to return it! Have now ordered the M (and the S) to see!

The kind of boots you buy from DIY shops.

I thought dealer boots were the type that gypsy men wore? Sort of round toe, pull on boots.

I ride in them, they are like jodhpur boots - elastic sides, but generally a bit chunkier.

MoiraRoseForever · 10/02/2025 08:51

So wearing them for the first time . Im so surprised that they are really flattering on me .

I would never have tried them if not for seeing this . Need more !

thanks

teawamutu · 10/02/2025 09:28

My delivery finally arrived. The velvet suit is surprisingly nice considering it only cost £20 - I'll have to take the trousers up slightly as the long were the only option in my size, but no big deal.

Wide leg leopard trousers a bit shiny for my taste but very comfortable and for a fiver they're staying.

The dark denim barrel jeans are lovely! Excellent quality fabric and a better fit than the £90 Whistles ones I have (via Vinted) which pouch out weirdly on the stomach. Now eyeing the leopard or khaki which I don't remotely need and wishing for the raincoat. Is it properly waterproof?

I came on specifically to ask you if you’d received your order yet! That’s good news.

After they cancelled my order I reordered ( dark barrel) but this was nearly 2 weeks ago so i’m losing hope.
In my local store I saw they had loads in stock - so I thought - but before swiping a few into my basket noticed the bottoms on these ones were all cut and frayed and not seamed. So glad I spotted it as this would not be a good look on me.
