Fuck what I can I wear to this wedding?

Son getting married this summer. Her mum is 6ft and slender. She's going to look incredible as MOB

I am short, fat (22-24) and with massive boobs. Like huge!

Feeling a bit panic stricken now.
Don't even know what I want to wear let alone find it.

I like patterns but don't want to look like upholstered armchair.
Like most colours, complexion is fair, mousy hair.

No overt cleavage on show. Calves also fecking hug3 so not too short.

Maybe hat. But I look silly in anything small because of massive boobs and tummy.

Arse also size of a small country.

I am perfectly happy with my size mostly, certainly no motivation to starve. But wtf am I going to wear? I'm going to let him down by looking fucking awful. I jus5 want something chic and comfortable.

Budget - not bothered. I was going to look at bombshell but they gone bust. All the MOB/MOG stuff seems to be for thin elegant Carole Middleton types. Love Carole btw. But I need something for a Miriam Margoles shape.

I saw a lovely mother of the groom last year, large boobs, probably size 20ish, wearing a gorgeous blue jumpsuit. It looked very modern, very glamorous, and it really suited her.
Sorry I have no idea where it was from!

Dress. Hat. Smart shoes. Like everyone else. You look like you. You are there because of your relationship to those involved not because you are expected to be some catwalk model family.

Mumwithbaggage · 04/01/2025 21:40

Hi OP. I know your pain. My lovely ds is getting married in summer too and in an ideal world I'd lose 4 st and look gorgeous. Ain't happening!

My plan is to lose weight - cutting my carbs which always helps - but otherwise I know I can get a dress I like from Scrlett and Jo. That's given me some confidence and scope.

I'm the other end of the height scale too - 5'10'' with long arms. Anything not regular is just so hard!

Scarlet and Jo do great plus size occasion dresses. Their midi length is pretty long so might be the equivalent of maxi on you. Loads of styles/ prints to choose from and available direct (for more choice) or via Next and John Lewis. I liked being able to order a few to try on at home rather than the pressure of trying on in store.

Was here to recommend this brand - I have a couple dresses and they're fun and easy to wear.

Oceangrey · 04/01/2025 21:45

Leely do some larger sizes and some of the dresses can be custom made to your measurements and height. Definitely worth checking the site out. It's wedding focused.

I liked MOG R.I.P 🐱

TunaTheSilverTabbyCat · 04/01/2025 22:29

Personally I would go for a column of colour and then a loose kimono jacket
V neck top
Palazzo trousers
Wedge peeptoes
Get something made and tailored to you
A good fitting bra and some shapewear undies

You could have a column of maybe a Teal colour or a Nude/Cream and then a kimono/duster with a a few colours and then accessories to match one of the colours and a mani/pedi to match the other?

My lovely Aunt had similar to this combo, she's about a size 28/30 and short of stature and she looked gorgeous for my cousins wedding
Wedges were comfy rather than feeling unbalanced on heels

Thanks so much for all the kind suggestions and sweet comments about not comparing. Scarlett and Jo looks especially good and I'm hoping Katya wildman may do a couple of summer numbers. I'll look at that stylist too.

And the poster that said why not lose weight - what part of not happening did you not get? Tell you what, you go 'easily' lose 4 stone and then make your fortune telling the world how! Confused

Mounjaro . . .

I know you said you're happy with your size but could this be the wake up call for your health?

Grandchildren possibly in the next decade?

Between now and the summer you could lose between 3 and 5 stone easily and then you'd have a much wider choice of outfits to choose from.

Rude!

That sounds a bit frumpy and ageing for the OP

Matchofthedayrubbish · 04/01/2025 22:49

Not sure where you live @dumpydumpydumpdump but I bought my MOB outfit form Wedding Pearls in the midlands. They specialise in plus size and made the choice a pleasure when I was dreading it. Also have a look on Facebook at preloved wedding and occasion outfits. Lots of plus size and you can search by size. If you want a teal dipped hem dress with navy hat message me!

purplecorkheart · 04/01/2025 22:49

I just clicked on to suggest Scarlet and Jo too. The dresses are fab. They come in fab colours and they are so comfortable to wear. They are also ideal if you have a bigger bust.

Couchpotato3 · 04/01/2025 22:53

Just a thought, but if you're stuck for ideas, maybe go and try some hats first and find one you really love and work down from there?
There's an amazing hat hire shop in my town that has hats in every possible size, shape, style, colour. PM me for details if you're anywhere near Gloucestershire.
Wearing a fabulous hat in colour that really suits you can make you feel a million dollars!

Turmerictolly · 04/01/2025 23:00

Shift type dresses from Wallis, Hobbs, Principles, Phase Eight. They do simple but elegant lace shifts which you can dress up with a chanel type jacket ( m n s)and glam bag and jewellery and hat/fascinator.

HostessTrolley · 04/01/2025 20:12

Definitely scarlet and Jo.

I needed a size 20 dress for a black tie event, I felt like a million dollars in one of their dresses. They have a wide waistband that pulls you in, the necklines are flattering without being too low, they skim the wobbly bits while giving a nice shape, and if you want to cover your upper arms many have floaty sleeves.

They go up about size 30 and have some great bargains in the sale just now

I was going to suggest Scarlett and Jo too.

When I was a size 24/26 they were great for me for weddings. I also have a large bust and i'm 5ft 3in and I felt amazing in them.

Thick waistband, supportive bust, flows in the right places and lots of colours and patterns to choose from too

Maddy70 · 04/01/2025 23:13

Plain colour, no hat excentuate your boobs. You'll look fab

eyestosee · 04/01/2025 23:15

@Maddy70

Maybe. Not necessarily. Maybe. Not necessarily. Yes!

CrispieCake · 04/01/2025 23:20

If you end up going for a very simple shift dress, OP, I would go for a pattern (either large floral or abstract) rather than a plain colour to break up your silhouette a bit.

RealHousewifeOfHull · 04/01/2025 23:20

I would think about footwear and start from there. There will be a lot of standing around. There’s no way I could stand around all day in heels and pinchy toe shoes without crying and they won’t be tears of joy.

RealHousewifeOfHull · 04/01/2025 23:22

And everyone telling the OP to lose weight, off you pop, don’t waste time getting your coats, out the door bye now.

FlippityFloppityFlump · 04/01/2025 23:27

JimHalpertsWife · 04/01/2025 19:25

Empire line would suit a large bust - can always have a small lace peice sewn into the cleavage here if you felt it was needed.

Doesn't have to be this exact dress but this style.

This green dress is gorgeous.

GreekSun · 04/01/2025 23:31

Throw money at professional hair / make up as well. It will help you feel more confident on the day.
