Fuck what I can I wear to this wedding?

dumpydumpydumpdump · 04/01/2025 19:17

Son getting married this summer. Her mum is 6ft and slender. She's going to look incredible as MOB

I am short, fat (22-24) and with massive boobs. Like huge!

Feeling a bit panic stricken now.
Don't even know what I want to wear let alone find it.

I like patterns but don't want to look like upholstered armchair.
Like most colours, complexion is fair, mousy hair.

No overt cleavage on show. Calves also fecking hug3 so not too short.

Maybe hat. But I look silly in anything small because of massive boobs and tummy.

Arse also size of a small country.

I am perfectly happy with my size mostly, certainly no motivation to starve. But wtf am I going to wear? I'm going to let him down by looking fucking awful. I jus5 want something chic and comfortable.

Budget - not bothered. I was going to look at bombshell but they gone bust. All the MOB/MOG stuff seems to be for thin elegant Carole Middleton types. Love Carole btw. But I need something for a Miriam Margoles shape.

I don't think shift dresses would work on someone with massive boobs (OPs words).

I have curves in all the wrong places and a shift dress would look fucking hideous on me.

Personally I would use Mounjaro from now until the wedding. You will lose several stone and be so much happier. I know we're supposed to celebrate being overweight but as someone who was overweight for decades I'm over the fucking moon now that I'm lighter. I've lost nearly 4 stone since June

RealHousewifeOfHull · 04/01/2025 23:22

And everyone telling the OP to lose weight, off you pop, don’t waste time getting your coats, out the door bye now.

Why though? Anybody suggesting it will already be losing weight themselves and have been very unhappy overweight. Nobody is saying it to be spiteful.

I am perfectly happy with my size mostly

Yea you are. It’s uncalled for and derailing.

Bailiwitch · 04/01/2025 23:51

Firstly, you have plenty of time to explore every possible option - you’re allowed to enjoy the process rather than going straight to ‘panic’.

Secondly there are a considerable number of brands that offer stylish and fashionable plus size clothes - you just need to know about them, so you can make an informed choice. These three articles would be a great starting point:

I was MOB this year and size 24 .
I got a beautiful dress in a bridal shop that catered for MOB and MOG.
There was a fabulous lady working in it that was plus size herself.
She was amazing.
My advice would be...
Buy best quality you can afford .
Accessorise with hat/hatinator
Jewellery and fab bag and shoes.
Get spray tan
Get hair and make up done that morning.
And most importantly of all .......smile and enjoy the day.
Confidence is the key.
Also have a look on
Needle and Thread
Nigel Rayment
Phase Eight.
Shoes I highly recommend Paradox London

I saw a lovely mother of the groom last year, large boobs, probably size 20ish, wearing a gorgeous blue jumpsuit. It looked very modern, very glamorous, and it really suited her.
Sorry I have no idea where it was from!

I was going to suggest a good bra (go to Bravissimo or look online in places that understand that big boobs doesn't mean up to a G) and a jump suit. I am 5'5" and a size 20-22 with JJ boobs. I find that wide-legged jump suits with a V neck or sweetheart neckline are incredibly flattering.

It's not rude to point out to someone that their lifestyle is shortening their life span. 🙄 It was said in a polite and constructive manner. I know that we like to pussyfoot about the issue but weight is a killer. Would you defend someone for smoking cigarettes? After all... that is an addiction that kills too.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 05/01/2025 00:06

I'd avoid high street. You want your outfit to stand out.

Search out smaller local retailers who stock plus size. You get so much better personal service from an owner of such a business, and you will get something more unique. Last thing you want is for someone else to rock up in the same outfit. Get your outfit first and then look for shoes when the summer stock starts to come in. I'd go for a heel but maybe a thicker heel that's easier to walk in? There's some gorgeous shoes on yoox.com.

I used to be plus size though I'm not any more, and I wore Joseph Ribkoff trousers suits to both my siblings weddings, and the biggest hat ever lol! I don't think hats are a 'thing' so much any more though?

I think the OP is well aware - you'd have to live under a rock not to be!

She didn't ask for lifestyle advice. She asked for advice on a wedding outfit. If you don't have any advice to give her on that, then maybe it would be best to say nothing at all.

DowntonShabbie · 05/01/2025 00:07

Well, you have six months and there's no need at all to starve, but you could easily go down a few stone and a few sizes by then. Which, let's be honest, you really need to do anyway and has the added bonus of making shopping easier and you'll feel much better about how you look too.

Unsolicited advice on these types of issues is incredibly rude. OP will know her weight is damaging her health, you're really not telling her anything new

Jolietta · 04/01/2025 20:03

I know you said you're happy with your size but could this be the wake up call for your health?

Grandchildren possibly in the next decade?

Between now and the summer you could lose between 3 and 5 stone easily and then you'd have a much wider choice of outfits to choose from.

This is actually a very kindly worded post. Even if the OP is happy with her weight normally she is not at a healthy weight and her son's wedding does get people thinking about the future.

OP the word easily was in reference to how much weight you could lose in 6 months rather than diets being easy. They are not although as others have said Mounjaro makes it far easier to lose weight than any other diet you will have tried so it might be worth considering if you have no medical issues that mean you couldn't use it.

Fashion wise I think you have had some great suggestions already. I particularly agree with getting some well fitted underwear so the outfit hangs well from the chest. Good luck.

haplessharpy · 05/01/2025 00:15

@AllIwantedwasanMOT I didnt tell her anything. I don't feel that's my place. I was just defending the poster who dared to do there.

DearestItIsSnowing · 05/01/2025 00:18

Summer days can be warm so I’d avoid polyester - so many otherwise lovely dresses, including some suggested on this thread, are polyester. This includes many of the Scarlett and Jo ones.

WilfredsPies · 05/01/2025 00:25

I’d just like to echo the recommendations for Scarlett & Jo. I’ve got a few of their dresses and they are flipping fantastic! Really nice quality; they sort of pull in your waist, but are incredibly comfortable to wear. Lots of them have v necks and you can sort of arrange the fabric to give you as much or as little coverage as you want. I have the dress I’ve attached in the link (I’m not a fan of patterns or florals) and it is sooo comfortable. The site shows lots of patterns and florals, but keep scrolling because they do do plain dresses as well.

More importantly, they have a fantastic sale on at the moment and you’d be able to get yourself a real bargain.

GreenCandleWax · 05/01/2025 00:34

What about a long midi - not maxi, so showing ankle and three or four inches or so of calf. A small print would be OK, or lovely plain fabric in a jewel colour like the green one upthread (but shorter), or turquoise or deep fuchsia pink - don't try and fade away, but stand out with colour. You will look good if enjoying yourself. Hope you find the perfect thing.

Bless you for pointing this out. I was longing to but didn’t have the nerve! I was once overweight and when I eventually gave in and went to a slimming club, I lost the excess weight. It wasn’t easy, but the way I felt afterwards was amazing!
Obviously it is up to the poster as to whether she loses weight or not, but I know what I’d do!

If it hasn’t been asked for then of course it’s bloody rude! It is unbelievably rude. How daft do you have to be to not understand this?

It’s saying to them that you think they are so stupid that they don’t realise that being overweight causes health problems and that they need some bright spark like you to come along and explain it to them. Do you seriously think that anyone with a weight problem is looking in the mirror and thinking that they’re in perfect health? That they’ve somehow missed all of the various health warnings? That they’ve hadn’t noticed cans of coke come in diet versions too?

I cannot believe that this needs to be explained to grown adults or that you’ve got the cheek to use a rolling eye emoji when someone tells you to stop being so sodding rude. You and @healthybychristmas and anyone else who feels the need to comment, need an adult to take you all off, sit you down and remind you about basic good manners.

The dread of my life! Being invited to a wedding. Never go anywhere now so have no clothes sense!
