Fuck what I can I wear to this wedding?

Son getting married this summer. Her mum is 6ft and slender. She's going to look incredible as MOB

I am short, fat (22-24) and with massive boobs. Like huge!

Feeling a bit panic stricken now.
Don't even know what I want to wear let alone find it.

I like patterns but don't want to look like upholstered armchair.
Like most colours, complexion is fair, mousy hair.

No overt cleavage on show. Calves also fecking hug3 so not too short.

Maybe hat. But I look silly in anything small because of massive boobs and tummy.

Arse also size of a small country.

I am perfectly happy with my size mostly, certainly no motivation to starve. But wtf am I going to wear? I'm going to let him down by looking fucking awful. I jus5 want something chic and comfortable.

Budget - not bothered. I was going to look at bombshell but they gone bust. All the MOB/MOG stuff seems to be for thin elegant Carole Middleton types. Love Carole btw. But I need something for a Miriam Margoles shape.

OP - There are is a huge choice of dresses in your size for MOB
Debenhams, Next, Scarlett &Jo, Monsoon, Hope & Ivy, JD Williams, M&S, Jolie Moi, to name but a few.
Some of Hobbs dresses are ok, but generally I found them a bit frumpy.

There is an independent shop near me called Style for Your Shape. They do a lot in size inclusive occasionwear. They are online and would probably be able to help if you messaged them basically what you posted here - but they have dresses on their website as well.

Monsoon again

I was at a wedding recently. MOB was slim/ tall etc. Grooms mom was small and heavier. Never for one minute did l compare them..only thought of the comparison when read your post. The grooms mum was full of fun and chat and proud of her son and generally amazing.
I can't for the life of me remember what she wore although l do recall a statement hat..not wide but bold. Have an amazing day.

Overthemoun · 04/01/2025 19:57

Also phase eight and Joanna hope are worth a look.

it’s worth getting something tailored to fit you, it makes such a difference, especially if you’re more busty.

enjoy the day and remember that whilst it’s important you feel good, most are preoccupied by the bride and themselves!!

Fluffywabbits · 04/01/2025 19:58

Scarlet and Jo do great plus size occasion dresses. Their midi length is pretty long so might be the equivalent of maxi on you. Loads of styles/ prints to choose from and available direct (for more choice) or via Next and John Lewis. I liked being able to order a few to try on at home rather than the pressure of trying on in store.

Jolietta · 04/01/2025 20:03

I know you said you're happy with your size but could this be the wake up call for your health?

Grandchildren possibly in the next decade?

Between now and the summer you could lose between 3 and 5 stone easily and then you'd have a much wider choice of outfits to choose from.

QueenMabby · 04/01/2025 20:10

Not this colour but maybe something like this? A flowy trouser with top and long open layer creates good vertical lines to give the illusion of height whilst the top underneath isn't too long so emphasises a waist.
I wouldn't wear a hat with this but a small headpiece on a comb might be nice.

Definitely scarlet and Jo.

I needed a size 20 dress for a black tie event, I felt like a million dollars in one of their dresses. They have a wide waistband that pulls you in, the necklines are flattering without being too low, they skim the wobbly bits while giving a nice shape, and if you want to cover your upper arms many have floaty sleeves.

They go up about size 30 and have some great bargains in the sale just now

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 04/01/2025 20:14

There was a woman on Queer Eye who they made look a million dollars. She was small with huge boobs x

dumpydumpydumpdump · 04/01/2025 20:31

Thanks so much for all the kind suggestions and sweet comments about not comparing. Scarlett and Jo looks especially good and I'm hoping Katya wildman may do a couple of summer numbers. I'll look at that stylist too.

And the poster that said why not lose weight - what part of not happening did you not get? Tell you what, you go 'easily' lose 4 stone and then make your fortune telling the world how! Confused

I was a MOB last year. I saw some lovely things in Monsoon, John Lewis and eventually got a fitted dress from this company. It was recommended on here actually

Brilliant ideas here. But you sound so funny OP - great sense of humour - made me laugh! (Am similar shape so links all useful). Enjoy your day.

dingit · 04/01/2025 20:47

I'm a similar height and shape and got a dress from White Stuff, they only do petite online

If you go for a jacket, don't do short. Do the same length as the dress. In your situation, I'd be tempted to avoid pastel colours too and maybe go for something with layers like this
https://zapaka.co.uk/products/navy-sheath-tea-length-appliqued-mother-of-the-bride-dress-with-wrap?currency=GBP&variant=46172119793890&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&stkn=101eb3ab1e27&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA1eO7BhATEiwAm0Ee-A3zRgD4UotyWpl5GpWnMGAzYboaQLj_jIZabGZhBFOv49OUYWGyCBoCHPYQAvD_BwE

Maybe size up a bit in whatever you go for and get it adjusted by a seamstress so that it fits perfectly and is comfortable.

This is lovely.

I love these threads

Some questions

Where do you usually shop?
If you were going out for an evening what would you wear (eg nice dress/ trouser /jeans and a top)
Would you prefer plain or patterned
Do you like floral?
Do you want a jacket?
Any colour preferences or definiate nos?

Shoes - what shoes will you wear? Or what type of shoes - I think starting at the shoe is a good idea

Katya Wildmam who designed the dresses for Bombshell has set up a new company, you may be able to get something you like from her new company: katyawildman.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopA5P346TDZgAtBuGzFTbOi4SFUihikPPrRsZ--euWrgASbqHJa

I was just going to post the same. Also look on eBay and Vinted for secondhand. Lots of people will only wear an occasion dress once so they'll be in very good condition.

Twinsandsome · 04/01/2025 21:18

Look up Karen millen plus size range honestly they stuff if very flattering on and if too long just get few inches cut off.

FizzPlease · 04/01/2025 21:20

My advice is go for a "one" outfit - so long sleeves and no need to cover up (with an added layer/jacket/bolero/cape/cardigan - not only does this make you over-heat, it distracts from your outfit). In which case, you will need long sleeves and a flattering cut.

My go to is always phase eight, as they have such flattering styles for every figure.

I wore this to a summer wedding last year and I got so many compliments. It was light and comfortable, really floaty and the style suited my plus size figure.

Empire line would suit a large bust - can always have a small lace peice sewn into the cleavage here if you felt it was needed.

Doesn't have to be this exact dress but this style.

This is gorgeous
