Fuck what I can I wear to this wedding?

dumpydumpydumpdump · 04/01/2025 19:17

Son getting married this summer. Her mum is 6ft and slender. She's going to look incredible as MOB

I am short, fat (22-24) and with massive boobs. Like huge!

Feeling a bit panic stricken now.
Don't even know what I want to wear let alone find it.

I like patterns but don't want to look like upholstered armchair.
Like most colours, complexion is fair, mousy hair.

No overt cleavage on show. Calves also fecking hug3 so not too short.

Maybe hat. But I look silly in anything small because of massive boobs and tummy.

Arse also size of a small country.

I am perfectly happy with my size mostly, certainly no motivation to starve. But wtf am I going to wear? I'm going to let him down by looking fucking awful. I jus5 want something chic and comfortable.

Budget - not bothered. I was going to look at bombshell but they gone bust. All the MOB/MOG stuff seems to be for thin elegant Carole Middleton types. Love Carole btw. But I need something for a Miriam Margoles shape.

FFS, this is not the weight loss forum.

No but she genuinely wants to know how to look better. Answer number 1 - lose some weight! It’s also not healthy.

CharlotteRumpling · 26/01/2025 08:27

Up to her what she does with her health.

HoraceCope · 26/01/2025 08:27

5ft 3 - so short but not ultra so

A word on shoes: I'm shorter than you until I discovered wedge heels, I'm now (often) 5'6" and can wear long dresses that don't need altering. They are comfortable and loads of choices out there, some even with "hidden" platform. Have a go before you set yourself on flats.

ArthurChristmas22 · 26/01/2025 09:04

Hi Op, just wondered if you'd decided? I'd love to see what you have picked. I found this thread and it was very timely as after about a 15 year hiatus, three wedding invites have landed for this year! I am also short, chunky and have the biggest chest (think KK) so I'm waiting with interest to see! Lots of lovely shops I've never used.

Mermaidsarereal · 26/01/2025 09:09

What's the colour scheme of the wedding? Maybe you could use that as a guide? Also a plus size lady here and Yours Clothing have some gorgeous dresses, also Debenhams online have a great selection, CurveWow, even Shein!

Clare Watkins stylist on instagram is plus size and petite, she always looks beautiful.

I think the outfit and accessories are only half a look, good skin, make up, hair and nails go a long way too.

Thanks for this- I have just spent a wonderful time on her Instagram and am very inspired!

HonestAquaMoose · 26/01/2025 09:36

PS I don't know anything about this company I was just looking for a layered style idea for you! Best of luck!

You are a size 22-24? That’s actually unhealthy no?

Far better than being a rude and ignorant person making comments not asked for.

Bellarose53 · 26/01/2025 10:43

If you can afford it, I would suggest getting a dress and matching jacket make to measure. That will look better on you than modern clothes which tend to be clingy and styled for long slender figures.
A classic 1950s style will look elegant and fit you perfectly. Get measured in bravissimo or m&s for correct supportive underwear and you will look stunning and feel at your best x

Woofie7 · 26/01/2025 10:55

When you look at things look at it on the bigger models so you can really see what it’s like.

some of these suggestions are fabulous.
you want to get that “ ahhh” feeling as soon as you put it 0n .

personal shoppers are excellent as is good underwear.

Piranesi7 · 26/01/2025 11:16

These African dresses, from heritage are beautiful...going to a wedding in May,so thanks for posting these! So original and joyful! Looking forward to seeing what OP chooses from all these great suggestions!

Nothing is as unattractive as being superficial and judgemental.

The OP has not asked for your unsolicited opinion on her weight. You do not know her personal circumstances. Unless you're being consulted in a professional capacity, other people's weight is not your business.

Back to fabulous dresses now, please.

I am a size 20 and ended up buying 3 different outfits and constantly trying them on to decide which made me look slimmest for my daughter's wedding. In the end, I decided I had to look pretty and happy rather than slimmer and that I did not want a traditonal MOB vibe with matching jacket and hat. I wore a very pretty GHOST dress in XL which had everything I wanted and suited me. Avoid puff sleeves as they make you look wider, go for a midaxi length which is most flattering and doesn't stop at your widest calf . A deep V neck and empire line also flatters. I love a small print in vibrant colours , big prints are no go too. My dress was predominantly red so it had impact. I bought beige mid heel suede sandals from Jones, a suede clutch bag from Hobbs and a beige pashmina from a market stall for the evening. No hat but a red flower clasp in my hair. It all felt great and like myself and not someone wishing she was different.

Claire Watkins just seems to wear flare jeans, a pair of red trainers and large coat

HAB75 · 26/01/2025 13:35

dumpydumpydumpdump · 04/01/2025 19:29

I really don't want to go to a personal shopper. High street has so little in plus size. It would just be embarassing.

Hobbs don't do my size do they?

I don't think I have any style icons. I always quite like what Kate Middleton wears but she's not my size at all. What I'd like to wear would be something like wgatsername in poldark wore at the end of the series, flowing green velvet and boots.

But it's a summer weddding, she's a red haired 10 at most and it's not 1800 so I'm a bit screwed there.

John Lewis has the Live Unlimited range. I'm fairly certain they go up to 28. I personally don't think it would be embarrassing - the last time I was there in my local city, that concession was enormous, dwarfing everything else. There would be a lot of options to explore. You can look online first, and if you think there are possibilities, you can then get the benefit of a bit of additional expertise from the member of staff. They can also arrange alterations. Wear any control wear when you go. I personally agree that this is the best suggestion.

@catatonique, you can’t have looked very far - it amazes me that people need to be so bitchy.

You will look manifiscent. Don't worry about MOB. Can you go for something a bit edgy? One Hundred Stars do some wonderful cover ups that you could wear with a plain simple dress underneath. Perhaps something from beautiful fabric, silk or something.

CrispieCake · 04/01/2025 20:27

If you go for a jacket, don't do short. Do the same length as the dress. In your situation, I'd be tempted to avoid pastel colours too and maybe go for something with layers like this
https://zapaka.co.uk/products/navy-sheath-tea-length-appliqued-mother-of-the-bride-dress-with-wrap?currency=GBP&variant=46172119793890&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&stkn=101eb3ab1e27&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA1eO7BhATEiwAm0Ee-A3zRgD4UotyWpl5GpWnMGAzYboaQLj_jIZabGZhBFOv49OUYWGyCBoCHPYQAvD_BwE

Maybe size up a bit in whatever you go for and get it adjusted by a seamstress so that it fits perfectly and is comfortable.

Problem with this type of dress is if you have big boobs you end up looking twice the size because the floaty bit at the front doesn't hang straight down but is about a foot in front of your body!

Yes, even my mother-in-law didn’t have a corsage on her wrist.

simple and chic is the name of the game not a walking hedgerow

For your information, they are back in fashion and very trendy at weddings nowadays

What makes you think that your concept of 'chic' is what the other poster wants? It might not be to your taste, but someone else might love it.
