Trends you wish would make a comeback

What fashions or other beauty trends would you love to see come around again?

Mine would be short hair for young women. I feel like young women only have short hair if it’s quite an extreme “statement” look (Pink, Wrecking Ball era Miley Cyrus etc.). Whereas I used to love those short, very layered haircuts (as modelled by Kerry Bishop of Neighbours fame in the picture). I could never have had that style myself as I have hair like Crystal Tipps, but I think the likes of Madonna, Demi Moore, Sheena Easton, Marie Friedriksen etc. looked stunning with it.

Any other votes for lost trends?

Kerry Bishop! I did not know she was residing in the annuls of my mind...!

I just want skinny jeans and knee high boots back please. Nothing more complex than that. I'd be sorted from now til March.

Rumforme · 08/10/2024 20:11

I agree I miss everyone having different length hair rather than long hair being the only way to be beautiful. I also wish grunge was properly back in rather than looking as polished, expensive and glamorous as you can too.

GettingStuffed · 08/10/2024 20:13

Looking natural,no fillers, Botox artificial eyelashes. I formed my fashion sense in the late 70s early 80s and false eyelashes were seen as so old fashioned.

Suits

Jeezitneverends · 08/10/2024 20:15

Just being able to dress up a bit…I went looking for some wide legged trousers today, they all had elasticated waists! They don’t flatter ANYONE!

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 08/10/2024 20:15

my hair was like that when i met DH. Its still short now, but a current cut and silver

Bollocks to fashion Grin

i too loved the skinny jeans and knee high boots look.

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 08/10/2024 20:15

Skinny jeans with heeled ankle boots
Peplum tops
Skater dresses
Eyeliner in waterline
Fitted biker jackets

Basically stuff that was in during the 2010s!

FKAT · 08/10/2024 20:15

Lots of young women have short hair now.

I'd like plain clothing for women to make a comeback. Sick of picking up a tshirt / top and seeing it's got a slogan / frills / sequins / no back / puffed sleeves.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 08/10/2024 20:16

oh the cut out bits of tops and dresses trend drives me bats!

ArnieandBob · 08/10/2024 20:19

Blue eyeliner and blue mascara

Perms (I have very fine hair and my 80's perms always gave my hair more body)

And skinny jeans, I'm trying all the others but skinnies were made for my body type.

MiamiWindMachine · 08/10/2024 20:25

Just being able to dress up a bit…

Oh yes! I’m so with you! I went to dinner with friends a while ago and was wearing what I thought was a nice blouse and skirt, but not a particularly fancy outfit. From the reaction of one of my friends, you’d have thought I’d arrived in a full length ballgown with sequins. She kept asking was I going somewhere else afterwards; that she’d assumed I must be going “OUT out” from the way I was dressed.

I’d like to see a return of glamour. I used to love getting dressed up. No one seems to do it now - certainly not in the way they used to.

MiamiWindMachine · 08/10/2024 20:26

Fitted biker jackets

I would have loved a biker jacket back in the day, but I’m 5ft 11 and they make me look like I’ve grown out of my school blazer two months before the end of term 🙈

Hats. Like proper hats just because you're going outside. This is mainly because I cba with my hair, admittedly but still.

Also gingham housecoats like my great aunty used to wear over her clothes whilst doing housework etc. I can't stay clean for five minutes.

TheOGCCL · 09/10/2024 08:52

I quite like the wearing trousers and a skirt at the same time look, and was reminded as I saw someone doing it on Saturday. I live really near to a fashion college.

CandiedPrincess · 09/10/2024 08:59

I've never let the skinnies go, I don't care. I don't care how untrendy I am - I am short and petite, they suit my body shape. Everything else looks shapeless and frumpy,

I'd like to normalise heels again on a night out. Everyone goes out in flats these days but I put on a heel and instantly feel better, more glam, more finished. Saying that, I still embrace the heel.

Bamboozie · 09/10/2024 09:01

More of a natural face - fillers, Botox, lip fillers seem the norm now, which I think is sad. People start to look like clones of one another.

Floisme · 09/10/2024 09:39

Ideally none, I'm bored senseless with the endless recycling of trends and I'd love to see something new.

But if you twist my arm, I'd go for jeans with embroidery around the hem and up the legs, last seen (if I recall correctly) around 1974. I'm not bothered about it catching on, I'd just like one or two shops to sell them.

BeyondMyWits · 09/10/2024 09:46

Just get rid of faffy extra bits. Frills, ruffles... use them to fill in the random holes everywhere. ..

Lentilweaver · 09/10/2024 09:49

Totally agree about short hair. These days if a young woman has short hair, it's assumed she is 'trans'😡 Bring back 90s Winona Ryder, I say.

I miss individuality in general. Many of the young women I see look like Stepford wives: long straight hair, false lashes, laminated eyebrows and duck lips.

WeRateSquirrels · 09/10/2024 10:02

Not really a trend, but I'd really love some normal sleeves. I'm broad of shoulder and do not need ruffles, puffed bits or anything 'statement'.

BamberGirl · 09/10/2024 10:33

@ArnieandBob get the perm!
I had one a few months ago (mid 50s)…I love it so much totally livened up my boring straight hair!
you can still get blue mascara too…I wear it with the permed hair and I don’t look like an 80s throwback.

Cantonet · 09/10/2024 10:44

The natural face again.
I'm so tired of seeing cheek fillers, over filled lips, too taut faces on 30/40/50+ women. Some are starting to look a little space-agey. Maybe I'm a little jealous at the age of 60, because I'm too frightened to have anything done. But the Stepford Wife look is definitely becoming a little prevalent.

Lovethatforyouhun · 09/10/2024 10:56

80s flat pixie boots. I want some sooo bad. Ebay and vinted are not coming up with any. The kind Madonna or Cyndi Lauper would wear…or any teen in an 80s film.
Not the kind older women may wear today.
