Trends you wish would make a comeback

What fashions or other beauty trends would you love to see come around again?

Mine would be short hair for young women. I feel like young women only have short hair if it’s quite an extreme “statement” look (Pink, Wrecking Ball era Miley Cyrus etc.). Whereas I used to love those short, very layered haircuts (as modelled by Kerry Bishop of Neighbours fame in the picture). I could never have had that style myself as I have hair like Crystal Tipps, but I think the likes of Madonna, Demi Moore, Sheena Easton, Marie Friedriksen etc. looked stunning with it.

Any other votes for lost trends?

Natural faces that don't put me in mind of Pete Burns.
Bed jackets
Long white nightgowns
Patterned silk scarves like my Grandma wore in the 80s - tied round the neck or in the hair
One piece swimsuits (no thongs!)
Billowing shirts, artist style
Sandy Olsen style perms
Cheesecloth/muslin
Cropped trousers
People making more of an effort to look smart with clothes, while ditching the false lashes, scary brows etc

For men - I have cherished a dream ever since Mad Men came out that suits and hats would come back in fashion en masse. A girl can dream! Mens fashion today is in a worse state than womens even.

Not clothes related but - chintz! Not chintz everything like it was at its zenith but I've been watching some 80s/90s films recently and the homes were so so beautiful and made me realise how truly soulless and sh*t most homes look today.

I'd like to see more variety in the clothes teenagers and young people wear.

I'm only mid 30s but when I was a teen there seemed to be much more creativity and individual style. You would at least have some kids that liked the grunge look, emos, goths, preppy, those that wore sportswear, funky dyed hair, piercings etc. Teenagers nowadays just seem to be in a sea of North Face jackets, grey joggers and the boys all have Fluffy Edgar haircuts with the girls all having long, straight hair. It's like a uniform and there doesn't seem to be the individuality there used to be.

I agree. I feel really sad for them. And the sea of grey and beige clad people everywhere makes me feel miserable.

Actually there have been studies showing that people with botox are less good at reading emotions (presumably because we mirror other people's emotions) and have less empathy.

I often wonder how babies of botox-mums will develop properly. My babies were always so transfixed by my face and the different expressions and micro-expressions that went with whatever I was saying or doing.

1970s hippy fashion. I recall last summer a young lady in Superdrug explaining to me the style points of an Afghan coat😂

And what are the style points of an Afghan coat ?

( and that picture is making me crave one!)

Cheesecloth shirts
Oxford bags
Anything 70s 🫣🤣

Cantonet · 13/10/2024 09:37

A lot of these things are already back....

  • Cheesecloth has been everywhere the last two summers.
  • lots of orange, brown & sheepskin in the shops.
  • long skirts are everywhere.

The 70's hippy revival is in full flow.

'Older women' 🤣🤣🤣

Do you mean the ones that were wearing Pixie boots in the 80s?! 🤣🤣🤣

No! The ones I wore to school in the 80s and the ones teens wore. Did you read the post?

Not the ones 70 year olds wear from Hotter etc. I was trying to be PC by not saying old ladies!!!

Floisme · 13/10/2024 16:42

Personally I'd have no problem with either 'old ladies' or 'older women' if you didn't follow it up with a sweeping stereotype about the kind of boots we wear.

I think 'not Hotter or similar' would have done the job.

Headscarves

Lower waisted jeans. Not ultra low, but just on the hips would be nice. I find the high ones uncomfortable on the stomach area. And unflattering on my figure. Can't find lower waisted ones easily now.
