What shoes do you wear if you can’t walk in heels?

I’m really, really bad in heels. Broke my ankle a few years ago and I’m like Bambi if I try anything over two inches. Anything strappy presents an even worse issue.

I’m also very tall and don’t like towering over people constantly.

I’d like to buy this dress for an event but I don’t know what to do shoe-wise.

Any ideas, and ideally, links please oh wise ones?

Sezane Paula Baby’s. Very steady and comfortable.

Wedges are easier to walk in heels.

I wear Lotta from Stockholm clogs if I need a dressier shoe or feel like wearing a shoe. You can get high or low but both are easy to walk in and comfortable

Yes, a wedge sandal. As per another thread, I'm not allowed to say, 'This."

Those are nice. There’s a lot of those double strap Mary Jane’s around at the minute.

It all depends on the event you want the dress for.

i struggle so much finding shoes that I normally find the shoes and then a dress to match. If the shoes are not that nice and it is an important event wear a maxi/long dress that covers your feet most of the time.

In winter I get away with wearing boots with dresses.

Summer is a challenge, maxi dresses with sneakers work for me if it is for casual or informal events.

Dune court heels.

Love these bad boys!

Another vote for dressy pointy flats, and the blue ones you already have look great.

I don't wear heels ever and have pointy flats in glittery gold, silver with feathers, and black suede which between them go with everything in my wardrobe. Sparkly sandals are another good option but I prefer having my toes covered for formal events. I think chunky heels are not elegant enough (and no more comfortable than spiky heels anyway) and ballet pumps/loafers/brogues all too casual.

Baller flats or mary Jane's with thin strap.

These! www.hushpuppies.co.uk/products/georgia-sandal-aqua

They give you a bit of lift and have a generally 70s vibe but they are so comfortable with a bouncy sole. Lots of different colours, some in the sale.

I walked eight miles around London on a hot day in mine and they remained comfortable so even if you don't normally do heels, they would be worth a go.

Flatforms

RampantIvy · 11/07/2024 22:06

I think it might be Vionic @UpToonGirl

Oops ...

Those are lovely but at 2.5 inches I don't see how they are a low heel! (Not getting at you, that's what they are being described as online)

Pompie55 · 11/07/2024 22:29

Silver kitten heeled sling backs.Don’t go down the frumpy dark shoe route.
Or,metallic flat Mary Jane’s.Jeez,I’m 72 and some of these suggestions are dire.

I found them, they're Vivaia. As I say I've noticed the ads and they look good but I haven't tried them myself.

Agree - I think this is the best most modern and stylish choice!

I love these but I would look like the Judder Man in them. Whats a similar look that doesn't create boat feet?

GrumpyMiddleAgedCow · 12/07/2024 00:10

I don’t have an overly helpful comment other than a sling back with a 1 inch block heel, though I do wonder what the world of MN classes as very tall? I’m just over 5ft 5 but still wear heels (not too big but the standard 4inch) am I too tall for heels (from others perspective)? X

Loopylou20230 · 12/07/2024 02:53

I am no good in really high heels either so I get some wedged espadrilles with a low heel but you can get them with none - sounds nutty but I get mine off eBay and they’re gorgeous 😍I go for open toe but there’s closed too if that’s what you like xx

GoldFrame · 12/07/2024 03:31

Something akin to these.

What shoes do you wear if you can’t walk in heels?
decionsdecisions62 · 12/07/2024 05:00

I've got blue velvet pointed flats from jigsaw.

Gold pumps are fun from hush I think

Some Clarks wedge gold sandals

Leopard mules from boden

I would class a 4 inch heel as a high heel (for me anyway).I couldn't walk in heels that high.
