What shoes do you wear if you can’t walk in heels?

I’m really, really bad in heels. Broke my ankle a few years ago and I’m like Bambi if I try anything over two inches. Anything strappy presents an even worse issue.

I’m also very tall and don’t like towering over people constantly.

I’d like to buy this dress for an event but I don’t know what to do shoe-wise.

Any ideas, and ideally, links please oh wise ones?

I agree @OneBadKitty.

Your dress is gorgeous @DonnaChang

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 13/07/2024 14:57

@DonnaChang the Jones are classic and beautiful!

GoldFrame · 13/07/2024 14:57

I have a pair of golden sandals and they work really well with nice frocks

Maddy70 · 13/07/2024 14:59

Kitten heel
Wedges
Or completely flat sparkly sandals

Apologies to @OneBadKitty- I just realised that my quoting your full response made it look like I was targeting the shoes you linked. I wasn’t.

My post was in response to you saying-
There are some seriously weird suggestions and ugly shoes suggested on this thread

Really wish the MN quote function would allow us to quote snippets!

Apologies again.

The dress is gorgeous. I don’t wear heels any more and I’d go with something flat, strappy and sparkly.

I think Dune do loads of beautiful comfy ones like these www.dunelondon.com/lessia-diamante-embellished-flat-sandals-ecru-0079508770007737.html

I swear by Clarks plain black flats. Their Chelsea boots in winter. NB for sporty things. Got plantar fasciitis that isn't budging, and these work for me.

I dislike them too

Makes me think of the Leningrad Cowboys. Depending on whether you play bass or not, that may or may not be a good thing.

Hi OP, have you looked at Bobbies? They do very low heeled sandals and elegant flats:

OneBadKitty · 13/07/2024 23:31

Yes, Bobbies shoes are lovely!

I couldn't walk in those heels.

The dress is lovely, personally I think it needs navy shoes and nothing too busy as the dress is already patterned(I'm changing my mind on my previous suggestion as I think jewelled would be too much with that dress). So the shoes don't need to be. I only ever do high heels or flats nothing inbetween. But something like this would work if you want a bit of a heel (which is better than completely flat).

I had forgotten Bobbies. They are fabulous and there are many flats as well as the heeled sandals a pp has linked to.

They have also opened a shop on Marylebone High Street which is much easier to get to than their main branch in Paris :).

CaMcC · 14/07/2024 08:50

I love barefoot shoes for events. I'm terrible in heels and barefoot shoe companies have a lot of cute no-heel shoes.

Camper also do nice flat shoes. I like to pair the camper peu shoes with dresses but they may be too warm for summer, depends where you live.

The op is going to an event in a pretty frock, not embarking on a trek across the plains of Mongolia

I'd suggest wearing hiking boots or trail shoes for that.

RosesAndHellebores · 14/07/2024 09:06

The other thing I do if I need a pair of nice shoes for an occasion and don't have something that fits the bill, is to go to my local branch of Jones and try on everything that might work and plump for the probably one pair in 20 that looks OK and is also comfy. Sometimes there is nothing and I go to the independent shop in the small town along.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 14/07/2024 09:10

I never wear heels anymore as they’re so uncomfortable. However, after recommendations on here I splashed out on a pair of Esska’s for a wedding. Worn all day and then dancing until the early hours. They didn’t rub, weren’t tight where my feet had swollen, balls of my feet didn’t burn. They were a revelation.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 14/07/2024 09:13

Or a lower heel in the sale
esskashoes.com/products/jesse-fuschia

GoldFrame · 14/07/2024 09:21

I’ve seen esskas recommended elsewhere too, might take the plunge after reading that @NorthFaceofthelaundrypile

PeachPairPlum · 14/07/2024 09:34

I think the pewter sandals are fab. More partyish than the other pair
