What shoes do you wear if you can’t walk in heels?

I’m really, really bad in heels. Broke my ankle a few years ago and I’m like Bambi if I try anything over two inches. Anything strappy presents an even worse issue.

I’m also very tall and don’t like towering over people constantly.

I’d like to buy this dress for an event but I don’t know what to do shoe-wise.

Any ideas, and ideally, links please oh wise ones?

I like the look of these from Dune

I think rose gold is such a pretty colour.

Try wedges maybe? Make sure they're platform so your feet are barely bent upward, with an ankle strap too so you don't fall out of them! I can't walk in heels either but wedges always seem to be comfortable! You have a full sole to walk on making it easier x

There are some truly odd suggestions on this thread. I do wonder sometimes whether people are trying to make the poster look ridiculous.

You can get some really lovely flat sandals these days. Next have a good selections. I've worn these with a maxi dress before.

If it's for an awards ceremony, how are you getting there? Train or taxi? Train you want something you can walk in (and that protects your toes from other people).

Buy some heels specially for dancing! I tried these as hadn't worn heels for about a decade, but couldn't wear boots as a bridesmaid. These ones here are SO COMFORTABLE I was like "if we have the technology to make comfy heels, why aren't they all like this??". Anyway, these ones are very sparkly. I love them. But if you wanted something more sedate, I'm sure you can fund similar. The only thing is that the fastenings are a bit odd. Easy to do once you have the hang of it, but I'd have a practice before the day you need to wear them.

Cheap too, if you don't want to spend a lot on something you won't wear often.

Silver kitten heeled sling backs.Don’t go down the frumpy dark shoe route.
Or,metallic flat Mary Jane’s.Jeez,I’m 72 and some of these suggestions are dire.

This totally!

ASOS is great for fancier flat shoes. I got 2 pairs of pointy flats one in blue satin, and one purple with a silver buckle thing and they were fab.

I have these in every colour. I used to be a prolific heels wearer but a foot injury means I struggle now. These are not very high and they are EXTREMELY comfortable. I could walk miles in them.

According to Clarks website, this shoe has a 7.5cm heel ...... I think you may have misread the brief??!

Am I the only one who really dislikes pointed toe shoes?

I dislike them too

Dressy flat strappy sandals. Do a Google image search for ideas.

BurntBroccoli · 13/07/2024 01:00

I'd wear something gold like these low heeled sandals.

No - really not keen plus my feet are very square!

Doc Martens.

This thread, and other shoe threads on mumsnet, definitely tell me I have not got the same taste as other posters.

First I don't understand this forum's obsession with converse. I don't know anyone who wears them in real life but if this place is to be believed it's the most common form of footwear.

Then this whole thread... I would personally wear nice round toed sandals, ballet flats or Mary Janes for a cute look and find all these pointy shoes really unflaterring but heh. As for wedges...

I can't wear heels and it's important to find shoes with a cushioned sole and supported arch. Fortunately they do make non frumpy ones these days.

I hate them, they make my feet look even longer and I don't need any help with that 😂.

FantasticFanny · 13/07/2024 09:26

I can’t wear wedges, does anyone else not have an inclination to topple sideways in them? 😂

I also have problem feet - arthritis in a big toe, beginning of bunions and flat feet, so I need cushioned soles with arch support. My podiatrist hates ballet flats and pointed toe shoes. Even looking at pointed toe shoes makes my eyes water.

I have some wedges that I only wear if I am not doing any walking. The incline on them is very slight so they don't really feel like wearing heels.

These are the wedge sandals I have and can wear. No doubt they won't pas the mumsnet fashion test, but by now It is a case of what I can wear comfortably. None of my friends and family would judge what I wear on my feet TBH.

Hobbs do lovely blue wedges (espadrilles)

Cantonet · 13/07/2024 13:08

I absolutely love these Vivaia pointed toe flats as attached because why wear heels if you're tall & finding them uncomfortable? But I'm not sure the colours will go with your dress. They're meant to be very soft & easy to wear.
