Ooh yay! I’m looking for tailored/more formal shorts or culottes, preferably navy.

I’m 5’9”, size 8-10 and long bodied. I WFH/live in suburbia and need something to wear everyday with camis/t shirts and either white trainers or pumps.

Thank you!

MuchasSmoochas · 15/05/2024 22:50

Hey, so glad you have started this, thanks! Help please - summer wedding but not too formal as it’s small civil. I am 5’7, big boobs and wide shoulders with a size 10 waist. I don’t like cleavage on me. Find it hard to get a good fit. In the past I’ve worn Rixo, Preen, Ganni. Day to day more like Cos, And Other Stories kind of stuff.

So not too dressy, no flounces/ruching etc round chest. Any colour goes, budget up to £200. Sorry for detailed specification 😬. And did you get your Insta page up or Pinterest? Would love to follow you. 💐

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 15/05/2024 22:56

Yay! I loved your last thread!

just lost a stone (yay!) and down to a 10 and would like to get a few nice classic staples for summer that I can wear a lot; any recommendations?

At the moment I wear a lot of print midi shirt dresses for office work (with nude heels) ; are they dated?

nzeire · 15/05/2024 22:59

Following from Nz! Wrong season, but whatevs!

frillseeking · 15/05/2024 23:23

@RudyKazoo for a bit of a splurge, I love these tweed navy shorts from Me & Em. The model is 5 '10 so this gives you an idea of where they would come to length wise and they are a high rise so would break up your long torso and give you a good proportion. They'd look great with a simple stripe vest and trainers but still have the smart, premium look. The middle style is a high waist linen style from Arket which they've styled very simply but you can see how fab they look with a simple vest and pumps. The third style is a more casual style but I like the fullness in the short.

For a culotte, I do love this style from Zara linkk*. The model is wearing them quite low down but they have a long rise so could be worn higher up

@MuchasSmoochas how do you find this kind of shape works for you? The shape is simple but the v neck would flatter the bust and the wider straps would work in the shoulder area. I think this kind of style is great for when you have an occasion but don't want to go too over dressed and want something non fussy.

I haven't yet, I've been busy working on a new website but I'll let you know when I do!

@MuchasSmoochas Farm Rioo* I'm also in love with this Farm Rio dress and love the neckline. Just thought I'd throw it out there as it would be lovely for an occasion but you could also wear on holiday and it's not too 'weddingy'

@Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius I think it very much depends on the print. A lot of shirt dresses are typically in floral or spot prints which do look quite dated but the ones I've linked below are more modern, abstract prints which bring the style up to date. Are you looking for every day pieces or just workwear? Well done by the way! A good excuse to buy some new clothes 😀

Ahhh thank you so much for the new thread, I love these and you nailed my winter coat previously. It's now a staple in my wardrobe.

Bit boring but I'm looking for an everyday cardigan. Something I can wear with many outfits. I'm open to colour suggestions. I have a lot of long cardigans but these can look a bit frumpy with wide leg jeans if you know what I mean. I'm not overly fussed about cost either so long as it's decent quality. I keep buying so many but they either turn out to be poor quality or they just don't look put together with my outfit. Do you have any suggestions?

juicy0 · 16/05/2024 18:56

Hi @frillseeking thought I'd switch to the more seasonal thread :)
The events are two garden parties in June x

Wow that's a beautiful dress!

frillseeking · 16/05/2024 19:15

@KarateSchnitzel a more cropped style would definitely look better with wide leg jeans to balance out the proportions. Some ideas attached. I don't think you can go wrong with Sezane for quality knitwear, especially their cardigans and they have some gorgeous colours. I've gone for neutral below but there's lots of different colours available. I've also included some other styles. Personally I love the jacket style cardigans as they're great to wear with a tshirt or vest underneath so good for spring layering. All of these would look good with jeans, wide leg trousers, a midi skirt, chucked over a dress. Let me know if you would like any links.

Which coat was it? That's great to hear!

@juicy0 it's gorgeous isn't it! And a good price for a higher end piece. Would that work for either of your garden parties?!

I have around £300 to spend on clothes and £150 of that are vouchers which can be spent in the usual high street shops / asos.
Can you provide links / pics for a capsule wardrobe for this season please?
I'm a size 10, 5'3, blonde hair. Thanks in advance!

MuchasSmoochas · 16/05/2024 19:43

@frillseeking love that shape, very flattering

frillseeking · 16/05/2024 21:31

@MuchasSmoochas this Rixo one is a lovely option in the same shape

@frillseeking thank you! I LOVE the fullness of the third pair of shorts and I’m ordering them now.

mummybear2104 · 16/05/2024 21:47

Hello, I'm 5ft 11, size 12 pear shaped and really struggle with finding dresses that I can wear over the summer, not overly keen on revealing my knees. Dresses often don't fit in the right places, some tall range far too long (I don't wear heels). Some just the wrong length which I think can make me look frumpy, every summer it seems I never quite manage to get organised enough to have dresses I can wear as an alternative to trousers, I would love to feel more feminine and cooler when it's hot! Thanks in advance

mummybear2104 · 16/05/2024 21:50

Sorry and another question does anyone know any great women's fashion brands that actually detail the models height and size on their website?

frillseeking · 16/05/2024 21:59

@mummybear2104 most website do provide this information, normally in the details if you scroll down. I've just picked Asos and M&S at random and screen shotted for you

Ooh, fab to see another thread @frillseeking!

I need a dress for a hen do with some very glam (younger than me) women, and then a wedding guest dress (same bride).

Wedding is stately home type place in July, hen is city night out for cocktails and dancing.

Early 40s, 5'6", 12-14, brunette. I suit jewel colours, happy with big prints- not a fan of neutrals.

mummybear2104 · 16/05/2024 22:36

@frillseeking yes thank you, I have noticed sometimes the height etc is on but it seems a bit hit and miss and only on selected items on some sites. I wondered if there were any treasures other than the main hight street stores I'm unaware of.

frillseeking · 16/05/2024 22:40

@mummybear2104 these are two day dresses I've earmarked recently, both from nobody's child. The blue is more of a classic shape which would flatter a pear and draw the attention upwards. The other style is more of a modern, simple aesthetic style but I love for summer with a pair of leather sandals. They also include the height and size of model.

Lovely ideas here.

Any knee length fitted dresses for a size 10/12 long limbed no waist/short waisted 5’4” gal going to a conference.

Long dresses tend to drown me. (I also like trousers / fitted top and jacket). And what low heel footwear?

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 16/05/2024 23:18

Ooh I have one please!

Glitzy evening wedding reception in July, need a dress. Just ordered heeled black strappy sandals from M&S. I’m 5ft 1 size 10 :) budget up to £150 and I hate showing my back.
