Starting a new thread for spring summer as the last one dated back to October. Look forward to some new requests!

Thanks a lot for this thread!
Two requests (if that's possible)

  1. Ideas for work clothes, place is casual but I don't like to go in jeans to work as that's part of my mummy uniform!
  2. Dress for a wedding in July, it is in a converted barn and the dress code is dress to impress
I am quite busty (36D), 5′ 5″, normally a size 14 although sometimes I can get away with a 12. Short and chunky legs, very wide calves but narrow ankles and big thighs. Thanks a lot!!

@Sleepismyfavourite there are so many amazing elasticated waist style trousers around at the moment. The pyjama trend is going strong still but you can translate this into a more wearable style with a pull on casual trouser.

I've done two boards as this is good for the ladies looking for capsule wardrobe pieces and every day pieces

Great to see you back @frillseeking ! It has come to my own awareness that I no longer look right in tee shirts! I’m late 40s and this used to be my standby outfit combo. Jeans and a usually graphic logo tee for summer :) now they just look mishappen and frumpy on me. I notice even Hush don’t make them anymore! What can I swap them out for to still look good and keep cool over summer? Thank you in advance.

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 20/05/2024 19:31

Dear, @frillseeking, this is an amazing public service you are performing - that you so much! I hope you can help me. I'm 5ft 2, size 6-8 and am really struggling to find summer dresses. Everything either swamps me (I'm looking at you, Jigsaw, Joseph and Me+Em) or shows my knees. I'm 61 and my podgy knees (slim body but podgy knees) definitely should not be seen.

I like fairly minimalist fashion - nothing ditsy, flouncy or with bell sleeves. A bias-cut, below-the-knee dress with sleeves would be perfect. Budget up to £200.

Thanks!

HalfMumHalfBiccit · 20/05/2024 20:50

Evening all.

I think it’s this jacket

Sleepismyfavourite · 20/05/2024 22:17

Thank you so much @frillseeking, I love the style of those trousers. For both boards can you tell me where the trousers on the top row are from? I particularly like the ones with vertical stripes, they look really classic.

Gingerisgoodforyou · 21/05/2024 01:22

Great thread, thanks!

Do you have the link for a cardi you posted on a board on page 1 - grey/ neutral one with 3 buttons, third from left?

Thanks

MattyJones · 21/05/2024 06:51

I've got a tricky one, I need one cardigan/hoody/warmth layer to go on a holiday that I can use when going out at night (not to fancy places but I still want to look generally nice) and hiking. I'm not sure this exists... it would be really good if it were made of merino or some other sort of wool. I've been looking at stylish hiking gear but haven't really found much! Thank you!

frillseeking · 21/05/2024 08:05

@Gingerisgoodforyou here's the link Reformation a more premium option in cotton cashmere

@HalfMumHalfBiccit lovely blazer. It's the right tone of blue to sit back with black. Did you order the dress? Would be good to see them on together

Will come back on other links and requests

Hello @frillseeking - I'm completely lost and need help. Short (5'3"), 60, post-meno body (big boobs, carrying tummy weight, apple-shaped). I look a bit like a potato with arms and legs poking out.

Central London summer wedding, stylish rather than OTT. I love Japanese street style but also elegant dresses. My upper arms are fat.

If I could find something that makes me look like a groovy, cool auntie then I'd be so grateful.

HermitCrabby · 21/05/2024 13:07

Hello! I’m looking for a belt to wear with this vintage dress. Presumably it had a self tie belt originally, but long gone. I am very short, generally, but particularly between ribs and hips, so something narrow and soft would be best. I’d love to be better with belts, so help would really be appreciated.

Thank you so much for this thread - you helped me so much on the old one.

I’m wearing this dress to a wedding this summer (in case it doesn’t load it’s the LK Bennett Avery dress in blue hearts). I’m 36, size 14.

I was going to wear a pair of nude stiletto heels but I wore them this weekend and they crippled me. Also, the wedding is outside/garden so worried about stiletto heels sinking into the grass.

I have really loose ligaments in my ankle so ideally I need a bit more support. However, I’m only 5’4” so ankle straps just make me look dumpy.

Do you have any suggestions for shoes that would go? It’s a very classic wedding.

edit: forgot to upload photo

SteakSteak · 21/05/2024 15:30

This is the dress…

@Comefromaway just wanted to come back on the second part of your post. Agreed it would look great with a leather jacket and boots, quite tricky to style for spring/ summer. I would probably opt for something like this pink Mint Velvet blazer to pick out the lighter colours in the print. I don't think any other colour is going to look right and I think anything too fussy would look twee and overdone. The simplicity of the blazer finishes the look but still lets the dress be the focal point

@HermitCrabby something like this soft tan belt from Hush would work. You don't want to go for anything too skinny because it will get lost in the print of the dress. They've actually paired it with a print dress so you can see how it would look for a good idea linkk*

@frillseeking Many thanks for your suggestion. Very nice!

frillseeking · 21/05/2024 17:05

@HermitCrabby what kind of budget do you have in mind? I've got Erica Davies in my mind as style inspo. She balances proportion really well with lots of stylish cotton full skirt dresses- I'm thinking of the Ulla Johnson dress she wore recently. I was also thinking of something like this Me & Em dress.

@Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius I would go for something like a gold metallic vest for evening. This would look really nice with the sandals and some gold jewellery and I'd pair with a belt like this one to tie in with the sandals. I also like this navy printed top for an evening look if you like prints. For daytime something like this sage tshirt would work with the cream (this could even be for a casual evening out as well)

Just to say the love & roses top arrived today and it’s perfect - lovely on and great with the shorts! Thank you!!
I’ll keep an eye out for budget version of the gold vest - also love that suggestion!

frillseeking · 21/05/2024 19:11

@Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius brilliant! Thanks for reporting back, so pleased.

Mango have this one which is a good budget option

I’d not have thought of going with the lighter pink for a blazer (I tend to avoid pink in general and go more burgundy as it can wash me out) but I think you are right. I was going to go and have a look in person next weekend but I see it’s in the sale and some sizes are sold out so I think I’ll have to order online.

TTCaxristi · 21/05/2024 19:23

Hello,

I have two DC, one 5 months, and I’m just feeling frumpy and old.

Could you help with some suggestions for smart-casual or classic outfits that are compatible with little children?

I’m 36, size 6/8 on top (broad shoulders) and 8/10 on bottom (wide hips), need to accentuate my relatively small waist to avoid looking boxy, dark hair, pale skin.

Thank you so much x

frillseeking · 21/05/2024 21:49

@SteakSteak there's nothing worse than uncomfortable heels. Comfort is key for an occasion like this. What about a nude espadrille wedge like these ones? The strap is nice and delicate but you've got the support of the shoe and they're not too high. I had a quick look at reviews and they get very good reviews and lots of people have worn for weddings
