Hi all,
Starting a new thread for spring summer as the last one dated back to October. Look forward to some new requests!

Loving this thread. What is the best high street denim jacket?

frillseeking · 19/05/2024 08:57

@NorthFaceofthelaundrypile I'd be tempted to go for green or matchy matchy with electric blue. Which style are you looking at?

Any suggestions for a light coat to wear on days I have to commute to office?
I'm stuck with a long raincoat that looks too casual, would like to look a little more polished, but still able to carry my laptop backpack....should I get a blazer?
The old blazers I do own are all short (should I throw them out?!)
I'm 5ft 3, size 12.14 pear shape.
Thank you.

I have around £300 to spend on clothes and £150 of that are vouchers which can be spent in the usual high street shops / asos.
Can you provide links / pics for a capsule wardrobe for this season please?
I'm a size 10, 5'3, blonde hair. Thanks in advance!

I'd love to hear the capsule wardrobe ideas too.

frillseeking · 19/05/2024 11:50

@Usernamerequired123 I would get the basics nailed first and invest in these and then you can build a wardrobe around them.

Hobbs, Jigsaw, LK Bennett, Phase Eight, Mint Velvet, Karen Millen would be my go to for higher end workwear on the high street.

I'd start with a couple of simple dresses that you can then rotate with a smart cardigan or little cropped jacket like the style below.

This two tone knit dress from P8 is a lovely, flattering style that draws the eye upwards because the lighter colour is at the top and the pleating on the bottom hides the tummy and the Stevie dress from Hobbs (image below) is a great shape.

The jacket would also look great with trousers and a blouse or wide leg trousers and a smart tshirt for a more casual professional look.

You can then add in the fashion element with separates such as this gorgeous spot blouse and pick up reasonably priced and add colour if you like bolder colours rather than the monochrome, neutral look.

@Rainyblue some ideas for you. I think a metallic always adds a bit of a glamour too. What kind of dresses have you got?

@Jagsy bet you can't wait! Are you thinking for day time?

@frillseeking hi, yes for daytime pls. I am 51 forgot to say in original post. Feel very frumpy and don’t feel good in anything I have. Would like to look new and different on the holiday if that makes sense. Also I can only wear flat shoes/sandals.

stardust777 · 19/05/2024 15:06

Hi OP, I was hoping to get some help with my trouser search.

I'm looking for smart linen or cotton blend trousers that I could wear to the office. I'm 5"3 and have a long torso and short legs - something high waisted would be great.

I've found these at Ro&Zo
https://roandzo.com/products/black-linen-button-front-trousers

but worried 100% linen would be a crumpled mess at the end of the day. Also, unsure of trousers that are ultra-wide. Any suggestions gratefully received.

timefornewme2023 · 19/05/2024 16:32

Thanks so much for your speedy reply.
I liked all of your suggestions but went for the tiered maxi in this multi print in the end.
It will either be great or hastily returned.
I think if it's no good I will try the jersey maxi.

These threads are amazing !

Also interested in recommendations for a light coat for commuting, although I'm taller than the previous poster (5 ft 7)

DoctorDolittle · 19/05/2024 16:55

@frillseeking thank you so much! I liked the Matalan Bardot too but it’s out of stock in my size, so I ordered a coral Bardot midi dress from Next and am looking forward to it arriving.
Living very rurally, and no longer having family sadly for ideas, it was lovely just to have your knowledge before looking to buy online.

frillseeking · 19/05/2024 17:38

@DoctorDolittle you're welcome, please let us know how you get on with your purchases 😀

Omg @frillseeking so glad you're back!

Could you suggest a long sleeve jumpsuit for summer? (Has to be long sleeved).
I'm a size 14 pear, age 34, I've found jumpsuits really unflattering, just feel so big around my c section pouch and bum. I'm starting to think it's an impossible task.

Also, if it's not too greedy, any long sleeve summer tops that actually feel like putting something nice and fun on (to wear with jeans or black palazzo pants). I don't know if that makes sense? Like can you still be fun and fashionable in long sleeves in summer?

I'm a bright spring colour wise - bold brights.colours.

Thank you so much!

Chitterchatterchoo · 19/05/2024 17:58

Hi @frillseeking - ignore I found what I was asking!

frillseeking · 19/05/2024 18:18

@Jagsy I totally get this. A holiday can feel like an opportunity to be a new person with a whole new wardrobe, especially if you aren't feeling great in yourself or your wardrobe at home.

This kind of short style below is really flattering as they are loose fitting on the leg and have a nice paper bag waist detail with tie that is good for covering the tummy area- it is much harder to wear a clean front short/ trouser.

In terms of dresses, I've attached two different styles. I love the bold print of the green H&M style but print is very personal. The tie waist detail is great for giving shape. The navy style is a lovely cotton broderie dress which you could easily wear for evening as well.

These might be a bit dressy for daytime, it depends on where you're going/ what type of holiday it is but just wanted to give you some ideas.

Hi @frillseeking

I'm looking for a dressy maxi dress to wear to a friend's 50th party next month. It's at her house which is massive and she's quite glam.

I'm 5'7" and a size 8-10. I have quite neutral colouring but muted so high contrast looks don't suit.

I like the look of this dress but it's probably too yellow.

mintvelvet.com/products/yellow-floral-print-tulle-maxi-dress

Ideally I'd love something in a green.

I also need a pair of flat-ish dressy-ish shoes in neutral or dull gold. I can't wear sling backs or straps up the ankles.

Thank you so much.

PS - any recommendations for lovely swimsuits that some in a long body option??

frillseeking · 19/05/2024 18:43

@QueenMabby I love that Mint Velvet dress but I can see what you mean about the colouring, quite tricky tones to pull off. What about this blue/green gorgeous style from Rixo? Image below. It's got the factor for a glam party without being over the top. I'm jealous of everyone going to these garden parties!

And yes to the swimsuit request! I only recently discovered that M&S have a long option on some of their styles but they sell out super fast. I recently got this brown print style and it's such a great fit. Not sure what type of style you're after but I also love this black one shouldered style that's new in

@HystericalDinosaur thank you! Is the jumpsuit for an occasion or every day? I love this quirky palm embellished shirt from River to wear with jeans if you're looking for something fun. For something more chic, the linen style would look good with black trousers. I'd go for a cropped style to show off a bit of ankle with a nice sandal to keep you cool. I also like this striped Zara style in a textured fabric which is very current

Thank you @frillseeking I love that Rixo dress! I'll add it to my pile. I'm going to do an eye-watering order come payday and try them all one and then try and just pick one!

frillseeking · 19/05/2024 19:44

@HalfMumHalfBiccit I wasn't sure if you had name changed or had just replied to a suggestion for another poster.

Love the Reiss trousers you linked. They look great with trainers but for work I'd wear with a pointed toe. Jacket wise you could stick with the relaxed tailored look and wear with a boyfriend style blazer it mix it up with a little black boucle jacket.

Jumpsuit would be for every day. Thank you so so much.

frillseeking · 19/05/2024 19:53

@HystericalDinosaur please report back! This jumpsuit looks interesting linkk*. I like the way they've styled it with pink trainers. It could look cool with some bright adidas gazelle platforms and it's a jersey fabric so nice and stretchy which is easier to fit than say a denim jumpsuit.
