Hi all,
Starting a new thread for spring summer as the last one dated back to October. Look forward to some new requests!

@HystericalDinosaur please report back! This jumpsuit looks interesting linkk*. I like the way they've styled it with pink trainers. It could look cool with some bright adidas gazelle platforms and it's a jersey fabric so nice and stretchy which is easier to fit than say a denim jumpsuit.

Ooh interesting, thank you so much!

frillseeking · 19/05/2024 20:15

@pringleaddict @Cantdecidewhere id suggest a duster style like this fluid Reiss coat. I have to say this is when I really miss Topshop as they used to do some incredible summer coats in gorgeous lightweight fabrics that no one has really replicated since (let me know if anyone has found any!) I know that cropped trench coats are very on trend at the moment but I'm not convinced in the traditional cotton fabrics. I do like this linen style from River which I purchased a while back. It's a lovely style and it's nice and cool for summer as it's unlined and linen. I ended up sending back as I have too many jackets that do the same job but it would look good for the office with wide leg trousers.

@frillseeking Thanks so much for your reply. Pls can you tell me which shops those 3 items are from as I would like to order. I love the shorts as they are not tight on the thighs. Going to Dubai, not planning on any fancy evening outings, so daytime wear. I love the style of both dresses, thank you .

pringleaddict · 19/05/2024 20:32

@frillseeking love the Reiss coat. Thanks!

frillseeking · 19/05/2024 20:38

@Jagsy fab! Really hope you like them when they arrive, please let me know if you get the chance.

Shorts- John Lewiss*
Green dress - H&M
Navy dress - Hobbss* this one's in the sale and not many left so I'd get in there quick

@Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius I think it very much depends on the print. A lot of shirt dresses are typically in floral or spot prints which do look quite dated but the ones I've linked below are more modern, abstract prints which bring the style up to date. Are you looking for every day pieces or just workwear? Well done by the way! A good excuse to buy some new clothes 😀

Where is the last one from please? And is there a similar cut but more colourful anywhere?

frillseeking · 19/05/2024 21:25

@HalfMumHalfBiccit sorry I've just reread through the thread and realised I missed your post. What about this dress for the conference? The tie belt would be good for adding definition to the waist

Thank you so much Thrill. Sorry I thought this might be a group thread from a long time ago that I’ve invaded 😂. Thank you for the dress idea. Lovely. What shop is that?

HalfMumHalfBiccit · 19/05/2024 21:36

Frill not Thrill !

frillseeking · 19/05/2024 21:37

@Summerhillsquare that ones a bargain from H&M. They do it in a blue floral but I'm not as keen on that print personally. linkk*

@HalfMumHalfBiccit no not at all! Sorry! I think a few posts came through at once and I lost track! Here's the link Hobbs

@stardust777 they look really nice and they look like they have a reasonable weight to them which makes them less likely to crease badly. It says premium linen in the description so they should be a good quality. I'd say the leg is not that wide so I wouldn't be put off.

M&SS* have these ones which get great reviews, I haven't actually seen them in store but might be worth a look.

Thanks for these threads @frillseeking, I’ve lurked before but not posted. I live in trousers mostly & unfortunately due to an abdominal scar I need to avoid a tight or structured waist. So I’m looking for stretchy waist trousers that don’t look too frumpy. Can you help? Also I wondered what style of trousers are in for summer?

HalfMumHalfBiccit · 19/05/2024 22:04

Thank you that Hobbs dress looks great I’ll give it a go! I’m always worried I’ll be the wrong side of frumpy in work gear.
Jacket or no?
I have a pale blue jacket from mango. Black relaxed cardi from Whistles. A couple of the smart cardis from Hobbs in navy and back. Although it will likely be warm in the conference.
thanks so much.

HalfMumHalfBiccit · 19/05/2024 22:05

Ps I am 50 😊

stardust777 · 19/05/2024 22:08

@frillseeking Thank you so much for the recommendation! These look great. There are a few things I have my eye on in M&S at the mo - I'll add these to the list.

Hi im looking for a wedding guest dress . I'm 5,5 size 10 age 45 .
I like tops of my arms covered and usually go midi dresses . Budget up to £100 . And something I could dress up or down to get some use out of it . Please . X

frillseeking · 20/05/2024 11:32

@pattyparsnip a few ideas for you. Obviously depends on your own personal style. They're all styled quite formally here but would work with a flat gold sandal to wear again. The Hope and Ivy dress is quite weddingy but it's so pretty and a good price for an occasion dress. They also have the Catalina which is a gorgeous print wrap dress Hope and Ivy

@QueenMabby the Catalina could be a good option for your garden party, sorry to add another one in the mix (!) but it's such a gorgeous style and a lot less spenny

@HalfMumHalfBiccit have you got a pic of the blue mango jacket? I think a cardigan with the dress could look a little frumpy but a jacket would elevate the outfit and then you can take off if needs be.

I think workwear can easily be frumpy/ a little boring but it doesn't have to be. You can add in prints, chic accessories/ jewellery and bring the outfit to life.

The reiss trousers you linked for example are really smart and suitable for workwear but the double waistband makes them really current and adds an element of style

pattyparsnip · 20/05/2024 12:53

@frillseeking oh thank you , I absolutely love the Catalina dress . Definitely fits the bill !.

frillseeking · 20/05/2024 13:01

@pattyparsnip it's so gorgeous isn't it. It would be a really pretty dressy holiday dress too with gold/ silver flat sandals and hair up but equally, you could dress up and go full on occasionwear with a lovely green or blue heel to pick out the beautiful colours in the dress. Let us know how you get on!

Also, I just wanted to highlight that Hope and Ivy run to a size 20 on their website but Simply Be stocks several styles (including the Catalina) up to a size 28 so it's a great option for plus size occasion wear.

I've got two requests. 5ft 3, SIze 12 aged 50

  1. I'm trying to build a capsule wardrobe. So far I have a Ted Baker Trench, All Saints leather jacket. M & W wool blend black trousers, Hobbs black blazer, Black M & S jeans, Reiss black mini skirt, Uniqglo white blouse, various fitted tops eg Sainsburys fitted white t shirt and Monaco Club teal fitted top. I also have a couple of All Saints tops. I'm looking to add to this, maybe a pair of black wide leg trousers and a pair of lighter colour trousers. Plus a jacket of some king, maybe white/cream denim/cotton etc. I struggle with lengths sometimes and I like things to have a waist. What do you suggest?

2.Plus I splurged on a gorgeous dress for a wedding. Much as I'd love to wear it with heeled boots and a leather jacket I'm thinking that might not be quite right! SO how do I style it. I will need a jacket of some sort if it is a bit cooler. https://www.harveynichols.com/paige/terrazza-floral-print-silk-midi-dress-979718-mult-black-cherry-multi-174424/?source=shoppingads&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI36fOq5mchgMV-KODBx3r2QVLEAQYASABEgIAc_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
