New to the thread (longtime lurker) but had to break cover to thank @TosstTastic for your final sentence.

I'm recently bereaved and am deriving comfort from retail therapy (currently waiting for a sale order to arrive). As most of my wardrobe is second-hand, I was feeling guilty about spending money at this time – as if I shouldn't be indulging in such superficial pleasures – and your post has made me feel better.

Clothes certainly are important for my mental wellbeing: wearing comfortable clothes in soft fabrics helps me to face the day.

Best of luck with your gynae issues, @TosstTastic and enjoy bonding with your Dahlia!

ScottishMouse · 19/07/2024 08:56

Welcome @Sallosaurus i’m very sorry to hear of your loss. Be kind to yourself, and that includes wearing lovely things if it helps in any way.
Also sorry to hear of your gynae issues @TosstTastic, hope you get things sorted soon, and are taking gentle care of yourself. I’ve also been having gynae issues & investigations over the past year and a hysterectomy may be on the cards for me too, it feels like a big thing doesn’t it.

Sallosaurus · 19/07/2024 09:31

Thanks @ScottishMouse, appreciate your post and hope your health stuff is also sorted soon.

Humbled by how much impact the kind words of strangers can have.

Onwards with the beautiful clothes and positive vibes Daffodil

MrsRadichio · 19/07/2024 09:46

@Sallosaurus also sorry to hear of your loss. Important to treat yourself kindly at this time.

And also good luck with health issues @TosstTastic. Sounds like a good plan with the dahlia.

@ScottishMouse interested to hear your thoughts from holiday. I also feel like I chase the new but then want to wear old favourites. Good idea to focus on health and fitness - I need to take a leaf out of your book!

My final order of khaki trousers is due today. The me and em ones I ordered as an alternative got cancelled as sold out.

I came on to say the lady in the Graham street blog is wearing a toast dress and it looks great. So much better than on the toast site. Will see if I can link in my next post.

TosstTastic · 19/07/2024 09:47

A big wave to the Toast people starting today with positive vibes.

Can I just ask everyone to write up reviews on the toast website, I find it ridiculously helpful and entertaining seeing how others have struggled or nailed their purchases and returns.

Bimblesalong · 19/07/2024 10:17

Absolutely agree re mental health and clothes. I have in the last week experienced a very close family bereavement 2 days after having surgery myself. Something comfy and lovely lifts the spirits.

BarnacleBeasley · 19/07/2024 10:32

Just popping back to say the jumpsuit arrived yesterday and the 8 is perfect. It fits really well across my chest and shoulders, and although there's quite a bit of room in the hips, that works well with the tie waist to give me more of an hourglass shape than I actually have, as well as echoing the volume in the sleeves. Thanks to everyone for the sizing advice! Clearly this is the beginning of a slippery slope where only lovely expensive clothes will do...

OftenOrange · 19/07/2024 12:19

@TosstTastic @Sallosaurus @Bimblesalong @ScottishMouse
Sorry you’re facing health issues and the pain of losing loved ones. Clothes
certainly played a huge role in my mental wellbeing at such times, and I think it was a way of coping that’s really healthy.
I clearly remember a big health scare , luckily only a scare, but one of my my main grievances was that I may miss out on the cheerful Summer collex from Boden…..(It was over 20 yrs ago !)

@TosstTastic Go for it with the Dahlia nightie 👍

ScottishMouse · 19/07/2024 13:50

So sorry to hear about your loss too @Bimblesalong. Take care of yourself.

ScottishMouse · 19/07/2024 13:53

@MrsRadichio i have that dress, and in fact, now that I am back in the city I am wearing it right now. For me it works better than the double layered crinkle dresses as they can be quite heavy. I found the sizing more like old Toast sizing, and took a 10 even though I am usually a 12 these days. I would recommend it, I think it will be easily layered in autumn too.

Stoic123 · 19/07/2024 14:05

Sorry to read about your troubles and grief. I got into Toast clothes during Covid and buying nice clothes did help to soothe me. My post-menopausal body needs to be cherished and a well crafted piece of clothing helps me to reconcile myself to the effects of aging.

A couple of last ditch sale items arrived. Cotton Twill Trousers in Oil Cloth - really liked the colour/ material but length too short on me for the style. Returning. Kathe Twill Trousers in Dark Pear - not sure about colour (more brown than green). Like the style and fit (sized down) but need to consider colour matching options before keeping/returning.

Bread board on its way.

Sallosaurus · 19/07/2024 16:03

Gosh, what a supportive thread this is: you are all lovely.

Thanks @MrsRadichio, @Bimblesalong, @ScottishMouse, @OftenOrange and @Stoic123 and apologies for derailing.

I'm ditching the clothes-buying guilt and embracing the thought that whatever gets us through is the right thing to do in troubled times. Plus, we're all worth it…

Poplinskirt · 19/07/2024 18:30

Best wishes to those who are grieving, they don't tell you it sort of shakes you upside down, particularly the very odd notion when you lose your parents that suddenly you are no longer anyone's daughter Sad

Agree that it's vital to be kind to yourself and indulge in lovely fabrics and toiletries and use nice things now

How funny @MrsRadichio
I bought that dress today!
I think it's standard Toast not doing the colour justice as it's the most perfect shade of blue .
I agree with @ScottishMouse it's much lighter than the double crinkle cotton ones and a bit more versatile .
I also tried the Collector dress and woe, it was very disappointing .
I have several Bryn and they are cut beautifully with pockets.
This has no pockets, boo and the hips are cut narrower than the shoulders !
I tried a 10 and a 12 and the hips caught on both, the top half fitted perfectly on the 10, too big on the 12 but also the top sort of bagged over the clinging skirt very strangely
I've never seen a dress cut like this.
I have the shirt so will make do with that.

Bimblesalong · 19/07/2024 18:51

What a lovely warm place this thread is!

I have a trip to London with ds2 coming up (he’s an adult). I must plan a route past one of the Toast shops …

faustina · 19/07/2024 20:21

Big sympathy to all the toasties with health issues and bereavement - a perfect dress/pair of trousers etc won't solve anything but it can be a real blessing - nothing quite like it!
My final sales order arrived today and I'm so sad that the XXS linen tunic dress was only just a very tiny bit too tight - was very tempted to keep and just stop eating for the next month because it was almost nicer than the S which is a bit too big (they didn't have the XS) but back it goes and I might get the S made a bit smaller, or might not - will keep anyway. The stripey tee in blue in L and the lounge tee in XL are both just ok so they're going back too. So my final sales list is one dress and one tee. Very unlike me!

@BarnacleBeasley - so glad your jumpsuit worked out!

Countmeout · 20/07/2024 08:43

💐 to all struggling with their lives for whatever reason.

I watched the live, I see what someone upthread said about the cream top and the restrictions of the sleeves. I thought it was very obvious on the girl who was wearing it. Also whose Annies look like they looked on the other lady, mine are much wider and obviously I’m shorter too. I did like the look with the blue tie shirt but I couldn’t achieve it with my Annies.

Glad it’s worked out okay for you @FitzLea . I like the colours of it too. I think the new version is too plain.
I like this. It has the same look as the pinafore but maybe too similar to buy.
https://www.toa.st/collections/womens-dresses/products/overdyed-check-seersucker-dress-slate

I've put that blue dress in the Graham Street blog on my next sale list, I think it’s verrrry light though isn’t it @ScottishMouse , I have a blouse in a similar fabric and it’s really thin. Such a beautiful colour.

OP posts:
TosstTastic · 20/07/2024 08:51

I liked that seersucker dress. I know we all come in different shapes and sizes, but since they've gone to the effort of putting some darts in the top, I wish they'd show it off on a model with some curves.
That's why the lives are so valuable, different heights, widths and proportions really do bring the clothes alive.

mizu · 20/07/2024 11:34

@TosstTastic yes! That skirt looked fantastic on her.

mizu · 20/07/2024 11:36

@TosstTastic @ScottishMouse gynae issues can be so debilitating. I had a full hysterectomy 9 years ago and it changed my life for the better.

Poplinskirt · 20/07/2024 12:48

@Countmeout yes I noticed that and also wearing the Collector dress she went to put her hands in the dress pockets but no pockets😂
Bring back the Bryn shape with pockets please Toast !

I think I'm going to order the blue check shirt to go over the dress, looks lovely on the site and I would wear with Annie's also

faustina · 20/07/2024 12:59

off to watch the live now, but ... a Toast dress with no pockets? That is madness!

faustina · 20/07/2024 14:44

The live was nicely done, and it was very obvious that the model was as pissed off about the lack of pockets as I'd be - not only did she keep looking for them on the pocketless dress, but she also mentioned how lovely the pockets were in every other piece she modelled. I also loved the denim skirt - will put it on my Wishlist!

Poplinskirt · 20/07/2024 14:54

Does anyone have the Cobalt crinkle cotton check shirt?
I've got the black and white gingham in a medium but the measurements for this look like I need a small
Size 12 not overly busty
TIA
