@AvaGardens - wow that is shockingly crap! I wonder if they actually look at anything when it arrives from the factories? It certainly doesn't look like they do!

@FitzLea - yes I can imagine tucking in might not look so good - especially not with a vast expanse of off-white

sonjadog · 15/07/2024 14:58

I got the green apron dress in the post today. I love the blue one so much that I thought I would regret it if I didn't get the green one too. It isn't a colour I usually wear, but I am hoping it will grow on me.

Qweesh · 15/07/2024 16:45

@faustina I honestly don’t think they do. I ordered the Marigold Jumpsuit and got stuck in it. I managed to get out after 9.5 minutes (I had messaged my friend just before I tried to take it off so I know it took me this long). I measured it against their size chart and it was actually the size down but incorrectly labelled. I reordered and it was the same, having been told it was an isolated issue and this one would be right. They even checked the size down which was also incorrectly labelled.

So far, their solution is to pull the size guide from the garment page.

Like @AvaGardens I am becoming a bit disappointed with Toast and their manufacturing practices, considering their prices continue to go up and up, I expect better.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 15/07/2024 20:40

I bought the Ink poplin v-neck that was mentioned up thread. It looks very nice on me, the fabric and colour are lovely, and it goes with a lot of my other pieces. But, like a lot of others have said, as soon as I move my arms it all goes wrong.

I am really disappointed and I keep trying to think of ways to make it work, I can’t decide whether sizing down would make it better or worse (although currently it is nearly sold out).
I know I can’t wear it as it is, it’s far too annoying, so I suppose I’ll be sending it back.

@Sooverthemill, I'm really interested to read your Me and Em experience. I like their clothes but everything seems so long - the dresses and skirts virtually sweep the floor on the models, who are a LOT taller than I am (I'm 5ft 2). How do you get on with the length at 5ft 1? Are there any styles that particularly work for you?

TosstTastic · 15/07/2024 23:19

I feel your poplin V neck pain @Theteapotsbrokenspout . I was totally emotionally invested and although I didn't look wistfully enigmatic like the model, it gave good mirror. But then I moved my arm, as if reaching for fika in my imaginary Swedish lake side summer house, and all the fabric moved and the neck line shifted like a geographical fault.

I sent mine back, be interesting to note if all the sizes come back into stock.

Nevermind the sizing and quality issues, I want a warning on raglan or grown on sleeve cuts. The models may be slender but they do disguise the batwing which I seek to tailor.

Sooverthemill · 16/07/2024 07:22

@notwavingbutdrowning1 a lot of their things work for petites. If you look at the detailed descriptions ( scroll down) they will say eg a deep hem, a way of folding the hem, etc but actually although some things are more maxi than midi they kind of work. I wonder if they put very tall models in them? Look at @midlifechic last week(?) who discussed this. Very occasionally I’ve returned something solely because length doesn’t work ( their extreme seam tapered trousers didn’t work because the shape was weird in a shortie). Also I’m probably 5’ 1 and a half so maybe that’s why!!!
some new stuff went into the sale this morning that I am very tempted by but need to wait for a payday

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 16/07/2024 09:26

Thanks, @Sooverthemill – off to look at the new Me and Em sale stuff!

SaffyRosie · 16/07/2024 09:39

I bought the V-Neck Stripe Organic Cotton Poplin Dress the one with sleeves.

It is so flattering, I've had many compliments when wearing it. Slimming.

I'm 5ft 10. Bought in a 16. I am 87kg/ 13 stone 10 (overweight but losing weight to get to my fighting weight of 67kg/ 10 stone 8). I know once I get to under 75kg the dress will look too big but it will do me for this summer and autumn here in Portugal. I will then sell it on the Facebook site and try to buy another one in a smaller size.

I am narrow shouldered pear shape.
This dress really flatters my body shape and colouring. I'm medium/light ash brown hair, blue eyes. Fairly neutral light/medium skin tone. A soft summer colouring so the colours if the dress really flatter me.

SaffyRosie · 16/07/2024 09:41

When does the sale finish and they release new clothes?

Fed up with the current sale as didn't like anything. Too many wring colours for my colouring. And drab clothes.

AFingerofFudge · 17/07/2024 07:31

According to an email I got this morning, Toast sale ends tomorrow. Probably midday as usual at a guess.

Did a final order the night before last when some stuff got restocked, so just waiting for these to arrive.

FitzLea · 17/07/2024 07:47

@AFingerofFudge I’m absolutely gutted those green gingham trousers went in the sale without me realising - how did I miss them, have had my eye on them for so long?!

AFingerofFudge · 17/07/2024 07:57

@FitzLea that was the first time I saw them also. I wanted to order both the medium and large to see what the sizing was like but by the time I got to checkout, the medium had sold already.

What size are you? If these ones don't fit me I'll be happy to sell on to you if you think the sizing is right.

FitzLea · 17/07/2024 08:17

Ah thanks @AFingerofFudge I’d probably need those in an XS. I’d stopped looking at the sale page a while ago…

BettinaInDenmark · 17/07/2024 10:14

@AFingerofFudge a bit envious on you getting the green gingham trousers. Never saw them in the sale, even though I've been looking wayyyy too much ;)

AFingerofFudge · 17/07/2024 11:55

@BettinaInDenmark no I didn't see them either until the other evening. It was only the green ones on sale, not the orange ones.

I have totted up my sales purchases which are very restrained.
The orders I actually placed (and have mostly returned) however were not very restrained.

faustina · 17/07/2024 14:49

Hope they do one last restock before it ends. I'd love to be a bit less restrained in what I'm actually keeping as opposed to what I order - so far it's one dress and one tee. I have a smaller version of the dress arriving tomorrow and then another lounge tee in XL and the blue stripe Breton tee in L. I think their sizing has got worse since they changed it - at least it was mostly consistent before - now it's all over the place!

AmethystMoonShine · 18/07/2024 07:36

@faustina they have restocked!!

faustina · 18/07/2024 07:53

Thanks Amethyst. Nothing I was hoping for, so it'll be a very cheap sale for me this time!

Countmeout · 18/07/2024 17:10

Agree with @faustina the sizing is worse since changing it.
My final purchase has been a pair of striped Alix that turned up in a size I think might be mine now.

Noticed they have brought the crinkle pinafore out in green in the new drop. Did you manage to sort out the issue you had with it @FitzLea ?

ScottishMouse · 18/07/2024 17:31

Hello from Sweden! I packed all the wrong things and have basically been wearing the navy linen barrel leg trousers every day with a few old tees, an anorak and old Teva sandals. i have realised that I have recently had a bad period of trying to shop to feel better about life/my body but then feeling worse when nothing fits as I would like it to. And I don’t feel any worse or any better in what I’ve been wearing for the last week! When I get home I plan to pack away clothes that don’t currently fit, get back to the gym, and concentrate any shopping on good basics or accessories/shoes.
That said, I did sneak in a final sale order early this morning. The humbug marled wool sweater in S (bought the M in the last sale but I think it’s too big, will sell it on if the S is better). It feels like a forever kind of jumper. Also ordered the textured yoke wool cotton sweater in bone which is likely to wash me out, but worth a try as it is also something that I would wear and wear. And I threw in one of the new long bandanas too, as something to accessorise sad outfits until I can lose some weight and feel better about how clothes look on me.
Hope everyone’s last sale hurrahs are a success.

Popplebop · 18/07/2024 18:34

My last hurrah arrives tomorrow - green cord jacket and the Fracap shoes. We will see. I have sent more back this time than ever- though some is down to style and some down to the size. I am currently sitting in a dahlia print nightdress as I am so hot coming in from work and it is perfect!

FitzLea · 18/07/2024 20:52

Thanks for checking in @Countmeout - I steamed it this afternoon and had a quick try on. The bits still poke out but much, much less so. I’ll try it on tomorrow with a few tops and sweaters underneath, but I’m quite sure that’ll flatten the bits out well enough, and that I’ll be keeping it. I think if I sized down the fit would be too neat and I wouldn’t be able to get much under it. I really love the colours/pattern of it, as well as the cut. Do you like the look of the plain green one from this season?

Poplinskirt · 18/07/2024 22:47

I whipped in and managed to get the embroidered shirt in an xs
I tried the medium which was huge and gave strange sticking out shoulders
At 39.4 bust in theory it should fit 🤞

I went into a Toast shop today and tried the fine stripe linen dress .
It's very big, the small hung off my shoulders and was ankle length, I'm 5 ft 8
Not sure whether to try an xs?
Also tried the wool herringbone trousers, so soft and absolutely beautiful but specialist dry clean and the price meant I sadly put them back.
Looking forward to some warm weather and summer dresses finally worn !

TosstTastic · 19/07/2024 07:51

I am trying to think positively about the Dahlia print nightgown.
I loved the mental picture of the op who wafted around a European city in her lovely prints with her supportive husband.
I'm being investigated and almost certainly will have to have a hysterectomy, my womb has served me well but has had its day.
I'm hoping to bond with the Dahlia print next week on holiday with a hint of a belt, a long denim coat or a short acid green cardigan, get some positive associations before it becomes a very important thing.
Clothes can be so important to our mental health .
