I haven’t tried them @faustina, but I saw them in store at the weekend. I like the colour.
i was also expecting the chambray shirt today, but it is hanging out in Swansea for another day. I also ordered the iku top. And then I am waiting for a (last?) order which hasn’t dispatched yet. I have kept some
pjs, some socks, and the utility jacket, but yes, otherwise I agree with underwhelming.

AFingerofFudge · 01/07/2024 14:11

I'm also in the underwhelming camp. I have kept the Japanese Chore Jacket, the chunky cotton tank top and the harlequin blouse, but everything else has gone back. Lots of things were just "ok" but at Toast (even in the sale) prices they have to be much more than ok.
Still waiting on another order with a couple of the shirts added later to the sale so I may end up with more.

Countmeout · 01/07/2024 15:09

@faustina re the Alix, one review I noticed this morning so far and not complimentary.

i ordered a smaller blue fairisle yolk jumper and am keeping it. When I tried the M again it was just too big, glad there was a S left.

From the new drop I ordered the soft cotton high neck T as I have a similar style from 2018 . It is verrrry small but I’d looked at the measurements and hit on the right size I think as I want it loose L might have fitted but would leave no room for any potential shrinkage.. My 2018 ones are a small. This is XL, this wouldn’t do anyone above a 14 IMO particularly if you want it to fit like the model. I’m currently a 34G. I know this will be terribly disappointing for people. Given I’m keeping an S in the yolk woollen jumper it demonstrates how ridiculous the sizing is. It’s a lovely warm pinky creamy milky coffee shade - quite flattering.

@Countmeout thanks - I read that review but I think it was someone who'd never tried Alixes on before. I need someone like @ScottishMouse to tell me if they're small or large - she knows what she's talking about!

Ha ha! Sorry I can’t help. I’ll try them for you next time I’m in the Edinburgh store, but it might not be that soon.
I’m wearing my oldest pair of Alix trousers today. I reckon they are about 6/7 years old and still going strong.

FitzLea · 01/07/2024 16:17

@ScottishMouse I had the Iku top arrive today (with the matching culottes) and whilst I’ve had this set on my wish list since they dropped I’m so disappointed that the top is really snug around my shoulders. I took my usual size and it seemed a really easy fit, but so small I’m wondering whether it was an XXS labelled as XS. I think an S would be much too big, but can’t try it anyway as it’s sold out.

So I’ve also not had much luck this sale. Do we think there might be even more bits added at some point? I’m really hoping so!

ScottishMouse · 01/07/2024 16:18

Ah no, that’s a shame re the iku top @FitzLea. I have ordered my (new) usual size, so we’ll see. I’m not convinced the colour won’t wash me out also.

faustina · 01/07/2024 16:43

@FitzLea - I'm not sure if they do add more to the sale after the first and second adds. I think the next thing is a further reduced. This has been a most disappointing sale

@ScottishMouse I'm also wearing my oldest Alixes today, with the organic denim jacket and a ninety percent tshirt (they do brilliant ones, though very £££ and only a few colours)

@AFingerofFudge could you tell about the sizing of the knitted chunky cotton tank? Last couple of times I've had one of the Toast knitted tanks/slipovers, they couldn't really contain me...

AFingerofFudge · 01/07/2024 17:22

@BettinaInDenmark the tank top (I got the nasturtium colour) has been the surprise hit of the sale. I threw it in "just to see" and it is fabulous. It's a soft thick cotton rather than stiff. I am more of a 16 than a 14 at the moment and I bought the large which is a great fit, slightly big but not in a sloppy way.

FitzLea · 01/07/2024 17:32

Hope you have better luck with it @ScottishMouse - I do think it’s a nice top. Seems like I might be stuck between two sizes since the sizing changes - just finding the shoulders so narrow on tops and some dresses.

That’s a real pity @faustina. There really just isn’t much else I’d like to try this time round, and was so hoping some other bits that have been sitting on my wish list for aaaaages might make an appearance 🤷‍♀️

@AFingerofFudge Thanks! Sounds like the XL will be big enough for me

OftenOrange · 01/07/2024 18:10

@BettinaInDenmark I have just received the cotton tank in orange and also turquoise after reading @AFingerofFudge post!
Both colours are fabulous , if I keep one it will be the turquoise because I have the chambray shirt and love the pairing (as seen on Toast) and it’s a more unusual colour for me and seems to go with many things in a quirky way.
I find the fit very generous in my usual size , but may not have time to reorder in smaller as am going away again . It still looks good but as I wear a lot of big trousers I wanted a short fitted tank……

Poplinskirt · 01/07/2024 18:50

Also underwhelmed but also baffled by Toast dropping their current stuff in the middle of a summer sale Confused
It's so random and makes planning impossible.
I will buy the green Selma as its a favorite shape of mine but its not due in stock until 12th July and so will get max 6 weeks of wear if we are lucky

faustina · 01/07/2024 19:34

I hate all the little 'drops'. I think they're supposed to make you buy more? Everyone does it now. I much preferred being able to see and order from the whole season at the beginning of it. Toast used to send that big sheet of folded paper with all their things on -very helpful for planning!

Poplinskirt · 01/07/2024 20:27

@faustina it's also quite a risky strategy weather wise .
The weather has improved recently but if it had continued to be a washout I wouldnt have bought anything new.
It was also rather exciting perusing the catalogues and dreaming about your holiday.

My order of the Collector shirt and new nightwear hasn't been dispatched yet, I'm wondering if they even have any of it in yet?

ScottishMouse · 01/07/2024 21:28

I am also waiting for an order to be dispatched @Poplinskirt, but a sale one. It seems to be taking longer than usual, so maybe they are particularly busy the last few days.

@AFingerofFudge and @OftenOrange - thanks for your reviews! As I am both very much into orange and turquoise, I might have to get them both ;)

TosstTastic · 02/07/2024 08:02

I love the sale. I tend to buy the sensible, stuff at full price which then literally gets worn out as it moves from work/event to weekend to garden. Just got a navy V neck top that will absolutely follow that path.
But the sale is for glorious things that I never knew existed but have a sneaky way of ending up in my mainstream wardrobe. Who knew I'd love a knitted tank top at 50, can a bias cut Bryn dress go to the supermarket if I chuck a Japanese denim work wear jacket over it.

I do feel exhausted by the choices so I'm secretly pleased the sales happen rarely rather than a permanent section.

I just need to stop purchasing the same dress, in the same size in the hope that one of us has changed since the last sale.

AFingerofFudge · 02/07/2024 09:04

@TosstTastic that last comment really made me laugh because I have bought the same pair of trousers 3 times now in the hope that I might have grown by 6 inches and lost two stone. Nope, they're going back for the third time!!

EffieeBriest · 02/07/2024 10:19

Anyone got the fracas mules, preferably in olive ? What’s the sizing like ? They look nice but quite a bit more than I’d usually pay for essentially spring/summer shoes.

@EffieeBriest I got them (in olive) a while ago, unfortunately at full price.
I tried both the 39 and 40; basically I would have liked the 39 to be a bit longer, but the 40 were way too long. I kept the 39, but have not really used them yet - so I could have waited and gotten them in the sale...
I had the black ones in 40 in my first batch of sale items this time around. Haven't tried them on yet, but I hope that they are marginally different size-wise than the olive ones.

BettinaInDenmark · 02/07/2024 12:34

I have my eyes on the organic cord pull on trousers. Could anyone comment on the sizes?
Most of my Toast trousers are size 18, but the ones with elasticated waist and/or drawstring are mostly size 16.

MrsRadichio · 02/07/2024 15:30

Lol at the repeat orders of the same item - I am guilty as have ordered the neat indigo denim dress for the 3rd time🙀Third time lucky perhaps?

Apart from that I am planning on trying one of the pairs of khaki trousers - no one seems to be buying them so I think they may get reduced further. At that stage I will pounce! Further reductions must be on their way soon??

SumAndSubstance · 02/07/2024 18:00

@BettinaInDenmark
I have those trousers. I originally got the XL, but swapped them for L. I think I am a similar size to you. Both fit fine in terms of the waist, but there was too much material around the middle in the XL for me. The dropped crotch is quite something, but I really love them in L.
