@faustina i also have it. I bought the M and L a while back and I was in between sizes. I am a 14 generally in real life and the medium was definitely tighter than the black version. I tried the L but it was baggy around the middle. Then I lost about 5 pounds and the M worked again! I think I’d probably advise to choose your usual toast dress size? It’s heavier and less fluid than the black version.

on another note, does anyone think this could be hand washed? If I have to dry clean it I shan’t bother.

@Snowyowl78 - I wonder if the hand embroidery thread isn't colour fast? I would also give anything dry clean only a miss too - unless a coat or a jacket which wouldn't need to be washed/cleaned so often. That's a shame

Thanks to you and @Poplinskirt for the opinions on the dress. Toast often make odd fabric choices. I once had a beautiful stripey tee. I think it had cap sleeves but it was almost as thick as a sweatshirt, so it never really got worn

I already had my despatch notice so will report back when it arrives

Snowyowl78 · 26/06/2024 19:49

Oh @faustina perhaps you’re right! Very expensive purchase if you have to dry clean it too. Have you tried the black v neck dress?

Snowyowl78 · 26/06/2024 19:50

I don’t know why that’s underlined!

whinsome · 26/06/2024 19:56

My utility jacket arrived today in a size smaller than I would generally get in Toast and I really like it. Pretty much agree with the discussion upthread.

I’d say there’s comfortably room for a thin jumper and I can’t see me wearing it in deep winter so that’ll be fine. When wearing it open I think I’ll knot the cord each side as Toast have show on some of their dresses to give a hint of a waist. It’ll be very useful and fills a gap in my wardrobe. Really pleased.

faustina · 26/06/2024 20:06

@Snowyowl78 - expensive and annoying if it's something you wear often
I haven't tried the black dress. I seem to be off dresses at the moment, so anything I order in that category will be a whim/sale purchase. Mainly living in my Cos shorts at the moment, and when it isn't 30 degrees, a pair of alixes

AmethystMoonShine · 27/06/2024 04:59

@MrsRadichio I tried the Indigo Twill dress in a 12 & 14. I found no difference in the gape, it gaped a little on both but not really an issue. The 12 was uncomfortable on the waist, it looked okay but it felt restricted. The 14 was a more comfortable fit for me on the waist and also across the back of the shoulders. I’m a bit broad shouldered. I kept the 14.

I’ve never worn a 14 in Toast and the website recommended a 14, which was a first. My conclusion is the cut of this is small across the shoulders and waist compared to usual (although not sure Toast has a usual 😂).

Countmeout · 27/06/2024 07:36

@Primrosespaw the colour thing is very annoying sometimes. I don’t think it’s your screen. I think they photograph the thing using artificial light and that’s why, sometimes at home I’ve noticed it looks much more like it does on the screen if I put the big light on.

I’m glad the utility jacket is sorted for everyone. Now waiting to hear your thoughts on the green coat @ToastCosILoveIt , I think you ordered it in the end.

I’ve had a quite poke around the new things added this morning. There’s a new pair of Alix for anyone who likes this shape. And annoyingly the cream (well is it cream - I wish they’re stick to a shade of cream and stop giving them all different names) jacket I’ve been looking for all year , it’s like the old workwear shape.

The colour thing is so annoying. And sometimes there are inconsistencies in how things look even between Toast’s own photos. I am eyeing up the new oatmeal Kaia cardigan but it looks like a totally different shade in the different model pics. I was planning to order the putty cashmere cardigan after waiting and hoping it would be in the sale, but the Kaia wool one might be a better bet (less £££ and less likely to pill). But it depends on what colour it actually is.
I also like the new linen stripe dress and trousers and the black vneck crinkle dress.

ScottishMouse · 25/06/2024 16:06

@ToastCosILoveIt did you get your size 10 in the navy utility jacket yet? I am still swithering between the 10 and the 12. The 10 looks neater but the 12 fits more layers. I hate buying out of season, because I can never decide how I might wear something.

Off topic but… that might be the first time I’ve seen someone else use “swithering” written down. Most people I ask (even fellow Scots) haven’t heard of it. Glad to see I didn’t make it up.

hicat · 27/06/2024 08:21

So did I read correctly that more sale items may be added today? Or did it mean new non sale items would go up. Will try be a bit more on game this time round! Have been checking daily to see it the pleated patch pocket rye skirt will be restocked in my size but no luck yet.

Bimblesalong · 27/06/2024 08:21

@Countmeout that whole outfit is just lovely! I have the aubergine version of the workwear jacket from a couple of years ago. A trusted staple.

I’m not actually Scottish, but have been here over 20 years. Swithering is my favourite word I have learned living here.

Hi, no, I haven't order the green coat. I did order the 10 and 12 in the utility jacket and am keeping the 10 and returning the 12. It is a great jacket and well priced in the sale.

Swithering is used in NI too. I don't think it is uncommon.

I haven't bought anything in the sale so far. I have had a project fixing and refitting older Toast clothes this spring, so I have about five new outfits just from that. I might order up the green apron dress before the sale ends, as I love my blue one so much, but not sure I really need another dress.

faustina · 27/06/2024 11:35

@Countmeout - that jacket is lovely, and the new Alix colour. I'll have to juggle things to fit another pair into my wardrobe though

Has anyone seen these lovely new canvas shoes? Not exactly very practical in our current climate, and I wonder if the soles might be a bit hard, but they are very beautiful

Countmeout · 27/06/2024 12:08

@faustina i don’t think I need more Alix at the moment either, maybe a sale buy later , the price has got ridiculous.

i love those pumps too, although the black ones look like the slip on school gutties, the cream ones are beautiful thought just not very practical.
They have also brought out the leather Mary Jane’s in a lovely brown too. I wish they’d stop making things, I’ve enough to last me 10 lifetimes.

My sale fairisle blue jumper arrived. The colour actually is quite like the online representation. It’s generously sized but it’s the sort of jumper you need something under in winter, really useful piece that will look good with the blue/navy checked Alix.

AmethystMoonShine · 27/06/2024 12:15

I saw them too @faustina, I’d spotted them on a model recently somewhere and wondered when they’d stock them.
I was less keen on the price for what are essentially good quality gym shoes though. It sure I’d pay more than I do for the Novesta plimsolls, so around £50.

AmethystMoonShine · 27/06/2024 12:16

No idea why they did my post! I was replying to @faustina about the canvas shoes 😂

AmethystMoonShine · 27/06/2024 12:17

Ah it’s unbidden now…. So odd

AmethystMoonShine · 27/06/2024 12:17

Unhidden

faustina · 27/06/2024 12:28

@AmethystMoonShine - maybe someone reported your dangerous gym shoe price theories? 😁

Countmeout · 27/06/2024 12:49

Had a Quick Look at PRAS shoes online, I can only find laced ones at £135 , wonder if these ones are made for Toast. Hesitant to say if so the price looks reasonable 😮 compared to the laced ones. I think I’m beginning to lose all sense regarding what’s reasonable!

Does anyone own this Alpaca Blend Cardigan from Toast, and if so, has it bobbled much?
I really love it, but before spending loads (even on sale..!), I'm wondering how well it will wear over time.

I don’t mind paying money for good quality shoes, but I nearly fell off my chair at the price of these.
I think I’ll be getting myself some sheepskin lined Birkenstocks instead.
