Also hi!

ScottishMouse · 07/06/2024 07:51

Welcome @hicat! I’m afraid I have no idea about the hat, but just wanted to say hello. Someone will hopefully be along soon who knows about the hat.

AFingerofFudge · 07/06/2024 08:40

@hicat they usually only use things that are sold by Toast, so maybe more things are to be added in the coming days? I was also looking at the hat !

ToastOnTheOutside · 07/06/2024 09:29

Hello!
I have been following the Toast threads for a long time and I have at last made my first post as I can help with the mystery hat
Studio Kettle Hat

Studio Kettle Waxed Cotton Hat | Concrete

Studio Kettle Waxed Cotton Hat | Concrete

Bonny hat made in the UK by Studio Kettle, crafted from waxed cotton with a wide brim and ties. Available in Concrete.

hicat · 07/06/2024 09:56

Ah no way, thanks! Weird that my “hat” search filter didn’t pull it up. I see from discussions that sales are upcoming… I’m not sure I could be ok with that price for an (albeit v lovely) hat.

@ScottishMouse on the Vinted front, I’m anxiously awaiting an inpost purchase for a toast item from a seller (square collar poplin dress that I fell in love with a couple of years ago). Hope your transaction completes smoothly 🙏

AFingerofFudge · 07/06/2024 11:54

Thanks @ToastOnTheOutside

Just when we thought we'd reached "peak Toast" along comes a cotton hat
for £185!!! Grin

Alltheberries · 07/06/2024 13:06

Hi @ScottishMouse Unfortunately I have had the same problems as you with Inpost and Vinted.
The item I sold was never received by the buyer despite wating and waiting. It was eventually labeled as 'lost'. I never managed to get anything from Inpost except them saying I had to talk to Vinted. They didnt want to know! Vinted gave me the £20 back but no more so I lost out. It has put me off using Vinted again tbh. It has definitely put me off Inpost. I hope you have a better outcome than me

ScottishMouse · 07/06/2024 13:18

Oh no @Alltheberries that is terrible. My parcel still hasn’t moved and I’m not getting any joy out of vinted or Inpost. It has definitely put me off.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 07/06/2024 14:14

I’m not really buying or selling much on Vinted at the moment, but when I do I try never to use Inpost. I generally sell using RM and buy using RM, evri or yodel.

ScottishMouse · 07/06/2024 16:24

Rats, wish I had known that @Theteapotsbrokenspout. I figured the integrated Inpost system might be more efficient.

In other news, I just popped into Toast on my way home to try some new things. Sizing generally seems bigger in this drop. I sized down from 12 to 10 in the blue check crinkle dress and bought that. It’s like the crinkled fabric from last year that came tied up, but less crinkled iykwim. Lovely.
I tried the little knit waistcoat and love both colours so need to think about which would be more useful, probably the darker one.
The blue stripe dress is lovely but for someone taller than me (5’2”) as it is quite straight in shape.
I thought the new boxy tee with the pocket would be a winner but the sizing is weird (small in the body, huge sleeves, really small tight neck), and the colours don’t flatter me.
The vneck linen dress is lovely. I tried the orangey colour. Again, a little big, I could have sized down but didn’t love the colour for me.
The wide leg indigo jumpsuit looks fab, but I didn’t try it.
Also tried the Selma dress. Sizing seemed the same as last year’s but the print is not for me. Apparently it is also coming soon in a green colourway.

ScottishMouse · 07/06/2024 16:46

Also, the overdyed seersucker dress is weird in many ways. It is made from different fabrics sewn together but it has been dyed as one so until you are close up you can’t see this. But when you are close up, the navys of the different fabrics clash a bit. There are elasticated panels under the arms which billow out weirdly under the elastic. And the top section seemed to be lined or doubled layered and the bust darts were not clean as a result so it bunched weirdly there. It could have been great, but it really really wasn’t. I had high hopes for that one.

Countmeout · 08/06/2024 09:13

Thanks for all that info re new drop @ScottishMouse . Always so useful.

i have ordered the wood ash waistcoat as I have FOMO about it and hoping it works over a few things.Again felt I had to order 2 sizes to see which if any fit. It may not be for anyone with a bust at all of course.

hicat · 08/06/2024 10:33

@Countmeout i bought that woodash waistcoat…I pre ordered it and waited two months by which time I’d found and fallen in love with the leaf embroidered sleeveless top. But every time I tried it on it just didn’t feel good enough for the price. Then the woodash waistcoat came and it won out! I lovvvvve it. I got a S and am on the bigger side of 10 and it fits. Felt good getting 185 back for the leafy one!

oddandelsewhere · 08/06/2024 11:36

@Countmeout thank you for reminding me about the size guide. I'm still thinking about it because 2 of the crinkle dresses I already own, both the same style, both current(dark olive and black /white gingham) both size large are wildly different sizes. I don't really know how much either of them has shrunk.
Now I've just read that @ScottishMouse says that the blue crinkle dresses are like last year's rolled up dresses which were massive on me. I will be in Mayfair in 4 weeks, I think I 'll wait and have a big try on.
In the meantime I'm having a go at dressmaking! I used to make virtually all of my clothes but haven't for years. Merchant and Mills pattern and small red check linen at the ready!

ScottishMouse · 08/06/2024 13:22

@oddandelsewhere I meant that the fabric of the blue crinkled dress is like the tied up ones, not necessarily the sizing. I never tried those. It fits like the other double layer crinkle dresses in the same style although the sizing is confusingly 8/10/12 not S/M/L. I would usually be 12/M in new sizing in a dress that style but found the 10 plenty big.

Countmeout · 08/06/2024 15:25

Do you mean it’s thin @ScottishMouse ?
I thought it would feel like the crinkle pinafore dress.
@hicat I’m glad you like the wood ash waistcoat but now doubting my size choices. Do you wear it by itself?

OP posts:
hicat · 08/06/2024 16:38

@Countmeout yeah I do. I like things being roomy. Haven’t tried wearing sth underneath it yet actually. We had a few hot days a few weeks ago and wore it then. Hope it’ll fit you as you like!

ScottishMouse · 08/06/2024 18:18

@Countmeout yes, it’s thin. Not like the usual crinkle fabric. It’s not very crinkled either to be honest, and could easily be ironed - so lot as crinkled as the ones that were tied up last year. Here’s some photos, including one of me holding it up to the light so you can see the weight.

I want to take up the hems of the navy linen trousers I got recently, but I just did an old linen pair myself on my sewing machine (I have reasonable sewing skills), and they just don’t look great. I find lighter fabrics much less forgiving of my sewing skills. But I am loathe to pay someone to do it, and in the past I have not had great results from professional alteration places.
I also tried on a really great pair of hemp culottes in Finisterre this week. Perfect, but too long. I was planning to buy them, but now I’m not sure. What do the shorter folk here do with your Toast trousers?

Snowyowl78 · 08/06/2024 19:40

@ScottishMouse I have to have nearly every dress taken up from toast but usually not the trousers, as I find they are all rather short, eg. Alix and Gabi, so I don’t need to. I’ve had a jumpsuit taken up but I think trousers are usually good for me. I am 5’3.

faustina · 08/06/2024 20:17

@ScottishMouse - I roll them up if too long! I did have one pair professionally shortened but didn't much like the result. I also avoid the styles I know will be way too long and can't be turned up (as in rolled a bit). I think it spoils the shape if that makes sense?

ScottishMouse · 08/06/2024 20:46

This sounds like me@faustina I roll usually, and thankfully lots of Toast trousers in the last number of years have been short enough to only require one or two rolls. But this doesn’t work with wider leg trousers sadly. @Snowyowl78 I actually don’t mind the dresses being very long, I’m only 5’2” but have become so used to Toast dress lengths that when I try anything mid calf I feel like I am showing way too much flesh 😆

I’m debating whether I should just return the linen trousers and give up on wide leg trousers. I noticed that even the culottes from Toast this season would need to be altered for me whereas in the past their culottes have always been good.

Countmeout · 09/06/2024 06:55

Thanks @ScottishMouse thats a bit disappointing. I hoped it would be heavier.

OP posts:
oddandelsewhere · 09/06/2024 08:25

Thank you @ScottishMouse that blue fabric does look lovely but also very thin! Yet again I don't think there's anything I'll buy this time.
Have you noticed that in Toast world it's between seasons and that the current drop is A/W 24 clothes that we can wear now?
I've got a fleece on over my pyjamas.

ScottishMouse · 09/06/2024 08:30

It does look very thin against the light but it’s a pretty standard weight summer cotton I would say. I intend to wear it much of the year, with sweaters over in spring & autumn.
I love the new vneck linen dress. I tried it in the orangey red but wasn’t sure the colour was for me. But I have seen the stone one styled on Instagram with the wee charcoal knitted gilet and it has my name all over both pieces. Except that colour will wash me out, and does any perimenopausal woman with very unpredictable bleeding ever buy anything stone coloured for her bottom half??!
