Like them but just worried they are a bit "mum boot". Anyone seen anything similar cheaper?

They look awfully narrow and pinchy around the front.

Maia77 · 20/12/2023 13:05

Not mum boots at all. Massimo Dutti is so not mumsy :).

BringMeTea · 20/12/2023 16:26

They are bang on trend at the moment. Not mumsy. You will certainly look current.

That style is around forever and how it persists I don’t know. I don’t like it. It’s having a little comeback again. It’s ‘executive middle age mum goes to the office’ wear, I think.

And what exactly is the problem about being an executive middle age mum?

You don't like them - fine.

I don't like them because I don't tend to like footwear with oddly shaped heels. Someone else said about the Cos version that she didn't like them because the heel looked as if it was about to buckle and snap. Another poster thinks they are too narrow and pinchy. All of these are completely subjective of course but manage to explain what isn't appealing about the boots without sneering at a whole group of women.

Grammarnut · 21/12/2023 09:08

Not mumsy, but rather boring.

Anyfeckinusername · 21/12/2023 09:12

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle Jesus would you cool the jets. I am an exec middle aged woman, I'm not sneering at us as a group, but it's an unfashionable look FOR us, it looks dated, it does the rounds. I didn't like it the first time it was around and I still don't.

Your post is nuts by the way. Ridiculous over reaction.

It is panto season after all. Widow Twanky boots they are. Grin

I think if you are young and not a mum then the thought of wearing a mum boot is dreadful. If you are a mum, not so bad. No one wants to be hindered by a kitten or 4" heel when your toddler has let go of your hand and is running to the middle of a road (real event).

That said, I still have mum boot phobia. I'm sure others think mine are Mom boots, but so long as I don't.

I am really fussy about the heel and the shape of the front. I've just offloaded a pair as they were too spoony, and another pair as the heel was too block. I also got rid of a pair as they had a kitten heel, and they were too pointy. It's like Goldilocks and the porridge. I spent 6 months looking for the perfect pair of long black boots, but I'm sure someone will think they are mumsy as they are from Hobbs.

Lotsofthings · 21/12/2023 12:48

I would have worn boots like this as 20 something in the 90s. I wouldn’t wear now, which probably means it’s really fashionable again and very unmumsy, depends what age you are.

Almahart · 21/12/2023 13:01

Same @Lotsofthings and I had a creative job and a killer wardrobe in those days.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 17/12/2023 11:08

Oh dear, they’re totally my fave kind of boots! And I’m not even a mum …

You still can't explain what's so awful about being "a middle aged mum executive"

Your post was nonsense.

Comes on the thread to see what kind of boots have inspired 8 pages of posts...

Backs away slowly....

I can state with some certainty that my Mum wouldn't wear them, if that helps?

They are not high fashion, they have an elegant, timeless feel about them. I like them. Bias warning; I am a Mum!

misssunshine4040 · 22/12/2023 15:25

I think these boots are really dated looking and not flattering at all.
My personal opinion of course but they definitely are definitely frumpy

spuddel · 22/12/2023 16:46

I like them, look classic and elegant but also comfortable. I'm a martyr to my feet though!

LilyPAnderson · 22/12/2023 22:01

Why is mum used as an insult? It mainly seems to be USA culture that has many insults towards women, and Britain follows because so much of our media is linked.

Silverfoxette · 23/12/2023 09:09

I have a similar pair, all the 20 somethings in the office were admiring them so I presumed they are trendy enough even though they frequently like to tell me how over the hill I am!

I wear them with dresses going out, and work wear. Couldn’t wear them day to day they’d kill my feet

Missingmyusername · 24/12/2023 04:49

I don’t find any footwear exciting tbh. They are nice boots, that’s it.

Mikimoto · 24/12/2023 16:03

More gransy than mumsy.

Your colleagues' behaviour sounds rather fictitious obnoxious.

Thomasina79 · 24/12/2023 17:31

Nowadays I go for comfort and could not wear these and don’t like them anyway. Since I broke my ankle some while ago my foot has been a bit unstable so I have to be a bit fussy. Flats for me!

catotangent · 24/12/2023 19:13

That's what I thought @NekonoTe

There's some on Vinted for £99.00z. Came up as recommended Xmas Confused
