Like them but just worried they are a bit "mum boot". Anyone seen anything similar cheaper?

These seem in between the ones you posted OP. I liked the MASSIMO DUTTI ones btw. No idea why massimo dutti capitalised there. Massimo dutti - didn’t do it there
Massimo dutti - didn’t again. Weird!

A little bit but they could be very well styled

Hayliebells · 17/12/2023 21:25

They do look like just the sort of boot I'd have worn with a suit in late 90s/early 00s. Although the 90s are back in, I don't think "sensible formal work shoes from the late 90s" are something that has really come back into fashion. I guess they're most likely to be worn by someone who is still wearing the same work shoes that they wore then, so I'd say yes, they are quite middle aged mumsy.

Hayliebells · 17/12/2023 21:34

Iwannaliveinstarshollow · 17/12/2023 11:59

I agree. I think they're really old fashioned. What middle aged women used to wear 20 years ago, so not 'mum', more older woman.

Yes I think this is exactly the sort of vibe they give off.

badhappenings · 17/12/2023 21:59

Very nice / stylish. Definitely not mumsy.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 18/12/2023 00:15

That Cos "looks like the heel is going to snap" ankle boot boot was everywhere on Reay on Matches last year - usually paired with voluminous silk dresses or oversized knitwear. @AHFaemale
Edit, no idea where that tag came from and it won't let me delete it

Why is putting "Mum" in front of a noun being used as an insult now?
What is wrong with looking like a Mum if you are one?

But having a ‘dad body’ is ok and even something to be proud of 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Isthatarealname · 18/12/2023 09:57

I think the mum boot moved on a bit. Previously these would have been considered mum boot but now are quite in style. Mum boot now would be a low block heel, ankle, rounded toe boot. I imagine anyway. Basically what was fashionable 5 years ago.

Jings this thread has turned into a belligerent bore off, eh 😬

Anyway, did you buy the boots OP?

It's amusing me greatly!

I went and tried on both the massimo dutti and the cos boots.

Cos are too pointy even for me. For whichever poster asked I'm tall with small narrow feet so can usually get away with pointy shoes.

Massimo dutti boots are lovely. Really nice quality leather m, not cheap looking as a poster thought, and they will work well with my satin maxi skirts and knitted dresses.

Hopefully they will still be in stock when my Christmas bonus comes in...

Yes it was those and the toteme ones that I'm seeing all over insta that is the look I'm after.

How on earth are they 'mum boots'? They are too dressy. I like them though.

I think it’s possibly because they look like something a Middle Aged woman would wear. ( I am one, so no offence meant!)

Obviously, I’m an achingly hip woman (like many over 40’s I know) and I’m afraid I agree. They are a bit ‘safe’, middle of the road.

either go for a chunkier heel, or go all out with a spiky heel if you want something dressier.

these boots have been worn by the head of the French department since I was at school!

zaazaazoo · 18/12/2023 12:49

They are lovely. I've been umming and ahing for ages over them and the long version and have now just bought them.

Totally on trend with a pointed tied and kitten heel. Kitten heels are having a moment. They will update your look if you don't have similar. Stylish and comfy. That rarely happens.

zaazaazoo · 18/12/2023 12:52

Aroundthewaygirl · 17/12/2023 03:12

Who cares? If you like them get them. But I don’t dress to fit current trends or styles, I just wear what I like.

Are your likes not affected at all by trends? I don't think many people are not driven by what they see in the world around them otherwise yo people would be wearing stuff they wore decades ago and look a bit peculiar. Like a throwback

megacat · 17/12/2023 11:13

To me they scream old lady who still insists on a heel.

Interestingly people who think these are old fashioned scream old lady who hasn't realised this is a current trend boot shape but thinks they know all about fashion

Jude82 · 18/12/2023 13:23

Depends what your style is really and what they are for, if you like them go for it. Not mumsey to me as they are just plain and black and would go with most outfits 👍 and they are obviously good quality for that price and look relatively comfy too 😊

Yes I thought that too. It's quite funny actually.

This style of boots feature on Cos (generally considered in the rag trade to be pretty cool) and models for Raey on Matches (generally considered in the trade to be cooler than Cos) have been wearing this style of heel for the last year.

I think the stylists and designers at Cos, Raey, Matches and Massimo Dutti are probably just, possibly, maybe a teeny bit more reliable as to what's in or out than the "experts" on here.

FestiveFrederica · 18/12/2023 14:02

Op: do these boots make me look mumsy like an 🤮 old lady?

Other posters: yes, so old! Bleurgh. Old ladies GROSS

More posters: if you say they're old ladyish you're an old lady yourself... twinkle twinkle little star what you say is what you are 😝 ner ner ner

Definitely no old ladies on here - some people behaving more like primary children tbh...

PrinceHaz · 18/12/2023 14:06

I’d say they’re not currently fashionable and they’re neither mumsy nor not. They just exist.

It might be a current fashion trend, but those that remember it last time around know the trajectory of the kitten heel- it’s on trend for a season, then it’s everywhere, and before you know it, it’s back in old lady territory where is belongs!

These trends only work if you can’t remember it first time round!

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 18/12/2023 14:43

Kitten heels were "on trend" for considerably more than one season.

The sneering on here about "older ladies" is tedious.

And as for

These trends only work if you can’t remember it first time round!

That is your personal problem - not a universal truth.

Floisme · 18/12/2023 14:45

Kitten heels were around in the 1950s - real old ladies know this. Fashion did not start in the year 2000.

TrinityTinselToes · 18/12/2023 14:49

Ghastly 😱

ManateeFair · 18/12/2023 14:53

They don't scream 'mum boot' to me at all.

They're not my style at all but there's nothing wrong with them.

Yes, agree. They're definitely fashionable. I'm not keen on the look for myself, but they are absolutely in style at the moment.
