Like them but just worried they are a bit "mum boot". Anyone seen anything similar cheaper?

Describing something as Mumsy just smacks of internalised misogyny.

God forbid a woman who is also a Mum dress in clothing that isn't following the latest trend. Even worse if she opts for something practical or comfortable.

You never see flannel shirts or chinos described as "Dadsy" do you?

It's amusing me greatly!

I went and tried on both the massimo dutti and the cos boots.

Cos are too pointy even for me. For whichever poster asked I'm tall with small narrow feet so can usually get away with pointy shoes.

Massimo dutti boots are lovely. Really nice quality leather m, not cheap looking as a poster thought, and they will work well with my satin maxi skirts and knitted dresses.

Hopefully they will still be in stock when my Christmas bonus comes in...

They are sheeps leather so I suspect very soft. I like them

Kitten heels were around in the 1950s - real old ladies know this. Fashion did not start in the year 2000.

😂😂😂

kimchio · 18/12/2023 17:15

Mumboot? Is that a thing? Hahahaha

amberisola · 18/12/2023 17:34

When I picture 'mumsy' boots or shoes it would be something flat, practical, probably fur lined, laced up, and waterproof... maybe in a 'quirky' colour or fabric. Nothing wrong with that but it's basically the opposite of these!

I have a similar pair (from m&s) and I like them. They're classic and I'm reasonably sure they're currently considered stylish, as I've seen them featured on Who What Wear and similar fashion blogs for a while now. The Cos ones are more fashion forward, but I think that curved heel would date them quickly.

amberisola · 18/12/2023 17:37

If those feel a bit too classic for you OP maybe have a look at some biker boots or chelsea boots instead, which are definitely in style and more comfy/casual.

And heaven forfend if she is the following the latest trend but it's a revival of a trend she followed when she wasn't an old crone.

I was thinking about these. Or are they too clownsy?

Biker and Chelsea boots are an entirely different vibe though. Both very useful boots, but a very different vibe to what the OP seems to be looking for.

But having a ‘dad body’ is ok and even something to be proud of 😵‍💫😵‍💫

I dont think so? I thought that referred to a pasty pot bellied type

justasking111 · 18/12/2023 18:58

I bought a pair last year from Fly of London. Their style this winter is very different.

I like OPs choice

telestrations · 18/12/2023 19:54

I don't think there mumsy at all. They are elegant and I would say for a very well dressed woman

However good boots do not come cheaper then £149

skippy67 · 19/12/2023 10:17

I have ones very similar to ones in the OP. I've worn them with ankle grazer straight leg jeans, dresses and skirts. they go with everything. I might get the silver too.

Simpleblessingsxx · 19/12/2023 12:17

No but possibly grannyish 🤦‍♀️
Seriously, there ok if it's your taste but a no from me because I dont like stiletto type heels Although they're a bit thicker still too thin for my liking in a boot

watchingsmurfs · 19/12/2023 14:27

I think they are lovely - just a nice classic style.
I considered myself to be pretty stylish but now questioning that on the basis of this thread!

watchingsmurfs · 19/12/2023 14:28

I wouldn’t select these over a biker or Chelsea boot, they are a completely different style for a different purpose.

Dodds87 · 19/12/2023 15:32

Who cares what others think. Along as you like them and are comfortable that's all that matters

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 19/12/2023 15:42

Mum boots are boots designed not to impede the wrangling of small children on the way to primary school. They tend to be foot-shaped and flattish.

I don't think these boots qualify.

tillyandmilly · 19/12/2023 17:03

Personally don't like heeled boots!

cakewench · 19/12/2023 19:54

Oh my god, I had the Nine West version of these in the late 90's! Square toes and weird flat heel and all. Only difference is the heel wasn't covered in leather.

Missing the point I suppose, though I assume if I had them as a 20 yr old in the late 90s, they're the style of mums now. 🤔

Moonshine5 · 19/12/2023 20:55

Why should mum be a negative word.
But they're not great

Nope. 90s and 00 clothes are what everyone is wearing now. My dd pays a fortune for it on Vinted. Wish I'd have kept my wardrobe from back then!

Palindrone · 19/12/2023 23:02

They're too impractical to be Mumsy. They look like boring, dated office wear.

Ramalangadingdong · 20/12/2023 08:49

I really like them. Not sure what mumboot means. Or mumsy for that matter. What's wrong with being a mum? (says she who has no kids)
