Like them but just worried they are a bit "mum boot". Anyone seen anything similar cheaper?

I think their should be a thread embracing the understandable need to dress primarily for practical reasons, but for people who also want to be a little fun or creative with their choices. It would embrace words like "mumsy" and make a positive spin, something like "clothes for the engineers of children's lives".

Anyway, how would you imagine wearing these boots op? I've never bought from the brand so i don't have a sense of their quality. And i don't wear heels... so I'm really unhelpful!

Lifechange2023 · 17/12/2023 09:03

I like them a lot and the heel is especially good as i am tall and struggle to wear a heel. They would look great for going out with cropped dark wide or flared jeans / leather trousers or with a skirt. With regular lighter blue jeans not so much

They are not nice

I am a mum.
I don’t care for the word Mumsy.

But these are not Mumsy by my definition in that they look deeply uncomfortable and impractical.

Fingeronthebutton · 17/12/2023 09:09

I’m 77 and have a pair.

Which would make them mum boots

Why? Because mums all work in offices? This makes no sense whatsoever.

Leafysuburb · 17/12/2023 09:23

My definition of mum boots would be flat comfy soles, possibly splattered with toothpaste and custard.

XiCi · 17/12/2023 09:23

They don't look anything like what I'd picture when you say 'mum boot' though I agree the term is ridiculous.

Anyway in answer to your question Zara have a vegan leather pair for £39 and a leather pair for £70 so you can get them cheaper there.

Almahart · 17/12/2023 09:42

I like them, would be great with a dress or the right skirt. They remind me of some LK Bennett boots I had twenty years ago and have been mourning recently.

😂 same!

I really like them. And if you do, who cares what anyone else thinks?

MillarMountVandal · 17/12/2023 09:58

I'd class them as granny boots, rather than mum? Though perhaps thats a reflection on MY advancing years 😂 The OP boots are very much my MIL's style (and she's 72).

AHFaemale · 17/12/2023 09:59

What does "mumsy" look like?

superplumb · 17/12/2023 10:02

Short leather mini and black tights they'd look nice

FancyFanny · 17/12/2023 10:07

They're not 'mumsy' in my eyes. They are a classic style, and if you're of a certain age you will remember this style being fashionable the first time round in your 20s- maybe that's why they are appearing 'unfashionable' to people who don't keep up to date with current trends. It is fashionable again so I'd go for it if you like them and wear with a flared leg trouser air jean or with skirts and dresses.

bellac11 · 17/12/2023 10:09

Whats a mum boot?

Personally I dont like them, boring, plain and look like they're terribly narrow

Bone11 · 17/12/2023 10:09

Aren't they just classic boots?!

laclochette · 17/12/2023 10:11

I think they're really chic. my most elegant work friend has a very similar pair, she wears them with a midi skirt and an oversized roll neck number and chunky gold jewellery and it looks amazing. It's all about the heel and toe shape - if they were block heels and a wider toe then they would be frumpy but these are very modern and elegant.

TheOGCCL · 17/12/2023 10:43

These are not mum boots, which I take to mean boots that are practical over particularly fashionable. A good shorthand but actually many women of a certain age, mums or not, might decide to go down that path.

They are too high and too smart for that. They look like going out shoes, worn as others have said with a skirt or dress. In my world they would run the risk of looking overdone/overdressed if worn every day, since being more casual - trainers with everything- is more the look du jour.

naughtynine · 17/12/2023 10:44

They are quite directional so not really a mum boot. Depends on your style I guess

Perhapsanorhertimewouldbebetter · 17/12/2023 10:45

I don't think they're remotely appealing, but if you like them then who cares what others think?

naughtynine · 17/12/2023 10:46

That's what I thought, too. With bootcut jeans: probably a mum boot.

That's how they should be worn, very Hayley Beiber

VolvoFan · 17/12/2023 10:50

The heel is too thin and the toebox is too pointy.

I'm a sucker for block heels and rounded or square toeboxes.

I wouldn't say they are in the least bit mumsy.

TremendousTurnip · 17/12/2023 10:59

Could someone post a picture of a 'mum boot' so I know what to avoid? 😂

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 17/12/2023 11:06

Prettyinred · 17/12/2023 08:18

Genuine question what is so offensive about these boots that everyone hates?
to me they’re literally normal ankle boots and totally inoffensive
just curious!

I don't hate them. I don't like the heel shape because I don't like any of what in my mind are "weird heel shapes". There are other boots on the Massimo Dutti site which have "normal heels".

Although I suppose this block heel is "normal" but I hate this heel shape, no matter how fashionable it might be. I'd take the OP's choice over the block heel.

They're not "mumsy"

Block heeled boots

megacat · 17/12/2023 11:13

To me they scream old lady who still insists on a heel.
