Like them but just worried they are a bit "mum boot". Anyone seen anything similar cheaper?

They look like early 2000s boots.

KissTheRains · 17/12/2023 16:24

Judging by the mum's I see on the way to school etc
Mum Boots, are actually:

Chestnut Tall Uggs

crocs with white socks.

Nike Air Trainers, the ones with the giant
Bubble thing all around them.

and slippers with PJs for the late ones.

My mum in the 80s and 90s though, she was all about the low heeled ankle boots and side zips and long toes that extended inches further than her actual toes and had a dent from where she ran over them with a pushchair..

totalnamechanger · 17/12/2023 16:32

Spot on. Nothing about these boots is relevant to either being a mum or not being one.

MillarMountVandal · 17/12/2023 16:32

Perhaps frumpy is a better word to use, rather than Mumsy'ish or Granny'ish? Because you DO get frumpy clothes, and you also get plenty of women who are both Mums and Grannies and whom are very stylish 😊

totalnamechanger · 17/12/2023 16:33

Sorry that was to the custard poster!

mathanxiety · 17/12/2023 16:33

I never see women of any age wearing heels, come to think of it, apart from lawyers flashing their Louboutins.

Except frumpy doesn’t usually mean heels

mathanxiety · 17/12/2023 16:35

The Cos boots look completely unwearable.

They do, or even early 90s

that’s the point

They remind me of what my nan wore in the 70s!

Plain black pointy toed heeled boots. Ive never liked them

Puffypuffin · 17/12/2023 16:40

The shops are full of heels, so to say that no one wears them is odd. I don't because my knees are gubbed these days but I was out in the centre of London last night and there were many young women wearing heels as well as trainers, chunky boots. Anything goes IMO.

Its subjective; it just means our personal opinion on what is considered unstylish (and yes, old fashioned - which, if we're honest, many of us consider/ed our Mum's/Granny's style to be!).

If the OP liked the boots, and wasn't interested in the opinion of others, she wouldnt have asked.

I think you both need to get out a bit more then.

I hate the word "frumpy". It's completely subjective.

I don't really see the point of threads like this. You (general you) have seen something you like so why do you need the validation of a bunch of random internet posters? If you do, then you probably don't like the item enough in the first place.

If you're asking the same random bunch of posters if it's "mumsy" or "on trend" or "dated", don't you think the design team at brands like Cos (especially Cos) or Massimo Dutti might be a bit more reliable and knowledgeable than the random posters on here?

Comments like housethatbuiltme's explaining why she doesn't like the Cos boots, but without trying to set herself up as some sort of style expert are, I think the most helpful. "Mumsy" "frumpy" aren't in the least bit helpful.

Floisme · 17/12/2023 17:13

I've not worn heels for decades and I've no intention of going back to them, but I've seen young family members and friends out in them again (some of them even in London Wink) I think the idea that they'd be out of fashion forever was always delusional.

Spongeb0b · 17/12/2023 17:21

I like them but I think they are expensive for what they are!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/12/2023 17:21

Lots of the 'youngsters' at work are back in heels again, many of them very similar to the OP's first pair.

And 'frumpy' can fuck right off.

And so can old fashioned, frankly.

And so can people who assume that 'stylish' just means 'Well, I like it' and 'unstylish' means, 'Well, I don't like it.' Spectacularly unimaginative.

MillarMountVandal · 17/12/2023 17:31

Jings this thread has turned into a belligerent bore off, eh 😬

Anyway, did you buy the boots OP?

TheFTrain · 17/12/2023 18:29

Hmmmmm... Haim wear something similar under jeans (I think they're By Far Sofia) but they've got a thicker heel and wider toe though. I think they look ace.

I've got something similar which I picked up in M&S and I love them under straight legged jeans. Even my teenage daughter, who normally berates me about what I wear, says they're okay.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 17/12/2023 19:20

They're not what I think of as mum boots but I don't like the shape of the heel. It looks like it's set too far back and would be uncomfortable. I prefer heels that curve inwards to be more under the boot if you see what I mean. Like kitten heels but not necessarily quite so exaggerated.

BrilliantEarth · 17/12/2023 19:25

I like those boots and wear things like that all the time. Though I've always liked and worn that kind of thing. I like kitten heel shoes, too, and they suit me. My legs look like matchsticks in anything clumpy.

That's what I meant when I said "normal heels". I prefer heels to curve inwards.

FestiveFrederica · 17/12/2023 19:39

All very subjective and each to their own etc etc, but I don't like the Massimo Dutti ones and I honestly think the Cos ones are horrible. If you have to go for either, not the Cos ones imho
