Like them but just worried they are a bit "mum boot". Anyone seen anything similar cheaper?

Could anything look cheaper?

I'm half joking! Sorry. Though they're not nice.

Mum boots, according to descriptions here, usually have a block heel.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/12/2023 14:39

I think the Cos ones are worse than the first pair, tbh.

But you should get the ones you like/can afford/will get plenty of wear out of, and ignore a whole load of ransomers on the internet, most of whom are probably sitting reading this at home in their slippers (as, indeed, am I).

Westfacing · 17/12/2023 14:40

Presumably an 'edgy' boot is the opposite of 'mum' boot - so can someone please show me an edgy boot!

EasternStandard · 17/12/2023 14:41

Presumably S&B isn’t to say wear what you want to all links so I’m going with they are not nice

The Cos ones also a no, they look like her weight is bowing the heel and too pointy

housethatbuiltme · 17/12/2023 14:32

There ugly too.

Do you have very small feet OP? because at a size 7 I would look like side show Bob in those. Long pointy toes are rarely flattering as they just make you feet look way bigger.

The curved heel just looks odd, like you exceeded the shoes weight limit and its struggling to cope. People will think your heels about to snap.

housethatbuiltme , now that's a very good comment.

A thought out explanation why you don't, subjectively, like those boots without all the ageist bollocks and the "mumsy" bollocks which are thrown out so authoritatively.

bellac11 · 17/12/2023 15:15

Personally I think they're awful, no style, no interest, plain, boring, horrible.

And thats not a kitten heel either

kitsuneghost · 17/12/2023 15:20

More granny than mummy
I could see them on a very elegant 60 year old.

kitsuneghost · 17/12/2023 15:21

Second ones are awful

naughtynine · 17/12/2023 15:27

@bellac11 my eyes 🙈

😁

I love em

Thats what you call interesting and stylish!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/12/2023 15:35

Those are hideous. Stylish is not what I would call them, to be frank, unless one's name is Widow Twanky.

platinumplus · 17/12/2023 15:36

Back in ye olde mumsnet days, The Mum Boot was something like the Next bestselling boot. Black, round toe, block heel side zip. Normally worn with jeans.
Attached picture was closest I could find.

Are these boots a bit mumsy?
naughtynine · 17/12/2023 15:39

@bellac11 life would be boring if we all liked the same things & it’s great when people are individual. They are certainly interesting but stylish is a stretch!

bellac11 · 17/12/2023 15:40

Ive had my eyes on the ones from Hatter for a while but they are too expensive. They do all different combinations of colours and personally I prefer flat boots/shoes, my favourties are the gold and cerise suede

bellac11 · 17/12/2023 15:42

Embassy, not Hatter. And my shoes are no longer on the website, sob

I'd say either of these could be classed as a bit 'edgy' 😂
I wouldn't wear the DM's, though I see lots of other Mums wearing them!
I have the Kurt Geiger ones (luckily, I spotted that Next had somehow wrongly priced them online, so I got them for 199 quid!). They are very soft leather, and SUPER comfy:

fyn · 17/12/2023 15:45

I would see them as ‘mum boots’ only because that’s what my mum used to wear when I was little (born in the 90s), but that is fashionable now! For me it’s dated but in terms of fashion, my generations side partings and skinny jeans are unfashionable and dated!

redfacebigdisgrace · 17/12/2023 15:55

Depressing that looking like a “mum” is seen as a negative. What is a “mum boot” anyway?

Inertia · 17/12/2023 16:00

No idea what makes a boot mumsy/ mum boot, but they look bloody uncomfortable.

If you like them, buy them.

I think 'mum clothes' are clothes/shoes chosen for functionality (ie things that you'll get 'plenty of wear out of' 😂) as opposed to clothes/shoes chosen 'just' to look stylish?

redfacebigdisgrace · 17/12/2023 16:10

@MillarMountVandal I think there’s a much more negative connotation on this thread. Ironic given we’re on “Mumsnet”

Floisme · 17/12/2023 16:15

I don't have the energy today for 'older lady' 'granny' shite. Suffice to say that, if that's how you choose your style then I'm not inclined to take anything you say seriously.

I think the boots that posters loved to deride were shorter, sturdier and had a lower, chunkier heel than the ones the op linked.

As I recall, the kind of boot that was more fashionable 20 years ago, the ones Trinny and Susannah foisted on everyone, had a pointier toe and a much spindlier heel. (The T&S favourites were from Hobbs if my memory is correct.) So again I don't think the ones in the op are the same. However they clearly remind a lot of posters of the early noughties so there's the risk that some older women might think you've dug them out of the back of the cupboard. But then again, if you listen to some of the advice on this thread, then I guess the opinions of older women should hold little value anyway... Or alternatively you could decide, what the holy fuck is this nonsense and trust in your own judgement.

They are similar to a Widow Twanky boot Grin
