Like them but just worried they are a bit "mum boot". Anyone seen anything similar cheaper?

To me they scream old lady who still insists on a heel.

I agree. I think they're really old fashioned. What middle aged women used to wear 20 years ago, so not 'mum', more older woman.

naughtynine · 17/12/2023 10:44

They are quite directional so not really a mum boot. Depends on your style I guess

What does 'directional' mean in this context and is it good or bad?!

Chewbecca · 17/12/2023 12:03

I think they would look good with the right skirt or with a leather mini and opaques as previously suggested. And it is a lovely brand.

Stresa22 · 17/12/2023 12:06

Smart work boots with a late 90s feel.

Puffypuffin · 17/12/2023 12:15

My friend has these. She wore them at a meal out recently with a leather midi, leopard print belt and black polo neck. She looked amazing and I was jealous as fuck because she was so classy and I looked liked I'd rolled in from under a bus. Like everything, depends how you wear it.

OnlyCorrect · 17/12/2023 12:18

I get what you're asking. As that style hasn't been fashionable for many years they could read a bit like someone had dug out their 'good boots' from their 'going out days'. Could see them working if you avoided any other 00s style cliches so NO bootcut jeans, knee length tailored dresses etc.

naughtynine · 17/12/2023 12:19

@Chewbecca they are heavily influenced by the 90s, the length, toe shape, position & shape of the heel. Directional is tricky, one can look very on trend or like they haven’t moved on from the trend they have been wearing for 25 plus yrs.

naughtynine · 17/12/2023 12:20

It’s tricky when you’re old enough to have worn the trend already! 😆

What ridiculous comments.

And why the hell shouldn’t an ‘old lady’ insist on a high heel if she wants one. And scream it from the rooftops if she’s so inclined?

So much ageist bollocks on here.

So old fashioned they’re fashionable again. But this is MN, so god forbid that an ‘older woman’ might dare to wear some boots that she likes.

danidaresyou · 17/12/2023 12:37

I think theyre way passed 'mumsy'.

Mumsy? No

Boring and a bit square? Absolutely.

MintsSpy · 17/12/2023 12:38

They're something nan wore

This made me laugh 😂

megacat · 17/12/2023 12:48

What I mean is the only people I see still tottering around looking uncomfortable in a heel is older ladies. I don't mean they should be kept for younger women.
In my opinion any sort of high heel is dated and looks awful. When I was in my 20's there was so such thing as a nice flat boot or shoe and it was either heels or trainers. I like flats so I can look good and also be comfortable, you know, like men have since time began.
Like I said that's my opinion, I'm sure people will tell me they can run a 10k in a high heel no problem.

bellac11 · 17/12/2023 12:59

Its funny because Ive never seen heels as elegant or 'young', I always associate them with older women and 'frumpy'.

I see trendy shoes as being funky brogues/DMs so I tend to associate boots like these with unfashionable outfits and being boring but Im aware that they're seen very much as elegant and stylish.

I think it depends when you grew up and what the trends were at the time.

Do you not get out much then?

I don't wear heels but I can't imagine where you live, work or socialise that you don't see women of all ages wearing heels -(or flats - or in between)

Mind you I'm also puzzled by your comment that in my 20's there was no such thing as a nice flat boot or shoe and it was either heels or trainers.

I don't wear heels much now but I can't remember a time in my life when I didn't have shoes and boots of all heel heights.

But your opinion is wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️

housethatbuiltme · 17/12/2023 13:19

I have no idea what a 'mom boot' is but they are ugly.

Like something a shit female villain would wear in a kids film.

KnittedCardi · 17/12/2023 13:36

Not anything really. I don't like them.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 17/12/2023 13:53

What they are is fashionable. I don't like this style because I remember it from the first time round!

Same here. They also look really uncomfortable and not mumsy.

Genuine question what is so offensive about these boots that everyone hates?
to me they’re literally normal ankle boots and totally inoffensive just curious!

The heel shape and the toe shape are of a very specific type, which might be briefly fashionable again now, but don't appeal to me at all.

Wolvesart · 17/12/2023 13:57

Alright unless with jeans. Not esp great with trs either. I’ve only usually gone for that sort of style if it’s got a twist. I’ve got a denim pair and used to have an embellished pair that are quite similar. I’m not sure heels looks are esp in at the mo, lots of chunky styles out there and slightly cowboy too.

There ugly too.

Do you have very small feet OP? because at a size 7 I would look like side show Bob in those. Long pointy toes are rarely flattering as they just make you feet look way bigger.

The curved heel just looks odd, like you exceeded the shoes weight limit and its struggling to cope. People will think your heels about to snap.
