Italian summer wedding guest dress: yes or no?

I am attending a wedding in Italy in July. The wedding and reception will be held in a villa's garden, so no church. Dress code is "chic garden party". Needless to say, it will be very hot!

I have my eyes on this particular dress, I love the back and the shade of green. Do you think it could work? Do you like it? Not sure about the shoes yet, maybe something gold? Thanks for your advice!

Lovely dress, I have no idea if it's suitable for the occasion but just wanted to say that some bridesmaids has dresses similar to this at a wedding I went to. It was really hot and they all ended up with seat patches showing on the fabric.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 26/03/2023 16:55

It's a beautiful colour 😍 you'd have to be assiduous in your sun protection application, too.

I find silk boiling hot to wear, but other people don't seem too!

RoddyStJames · 26/03/2023 16:55

If it’s going to be very hot I would be worried about sweat patches on that fabric.

Jux · 26/03/2023 16:58

Sweaty sweaty sweaty

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/03/2023 17:00

whats the fabric?

kitsuneghost · 26/03/2023 17:04

Too showy

Reinventinganna · 26/03/2023 17:04

It will look fantastic as it clings to your sweaty body Grin

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 26/03/2023 17:05

Fabulous! Enjoy and yes to gold strappy heels.

BrennieGirl · 26/03/2023 17:08

That looks more like evening wear to me.

That looks more like evening wear to me.

Forgot to say that the ceremony is at 6 pm and the reception starts at 7:30 pm.

It looks like a bridesmaid dress to me

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/03/2023 17:10

The pink floral version has a more wedding feel to it. The green looks like sexy evening wear to me, but you'll have a better idea what others will be wearing.

NeverTalksToStrangers2 · 26/03/2023 17:12

I think it's lovely and if the wedding is in the evening should be fine re sweating. You would need to be very toned though as that dress will not forgive.

LadyKenya · 26/03/2023 17:12

It is a very look at me dress. Fine if that is what you are after.

ThisNameIsNotAvailable · 26/03/2023 17:15

The pink floral version is beautiful and spot on for a wedding. Would also not show sweat patches

zoopigi · 26/03/2023 17:19

I reckon perfect for an Italian chic summer wedding

Crabwoman · 26/03/2023 17:38

It's perfect.

Natty13 · 26/03/2023 17:39

I've been to a few Italian weddings and while this dress will absolutely match the dress code (expect it to be more dressy than a British wedding) I would caution against that length and fabric. Like others have said you will be hot and sweaty especially in unanticipated places (thighs and crotch) so I would recommend either a jumpsuit or a shorter length.

Last year I went to one in Northern Italy in June and I was sweating buckets in my knee length dress. One of the other women had a gorgeous green wide leg jumpsuit on which I still keep thinking about and want to find!

WimbleOfWombledon · 26/03/2023 17:41

I went to an early evening wedding at an Italian villa and garden in July. It was a zillion degrees with no air con or breeze at all, I have never been so hot in my life!!

That silk will be covered in sweat patches before you know it. I'd choose a different material.

Also, at the 2 Italian weddings I've been to (Italian couples) people were dressed stylishly but conservatively - so no cleavage, not much flesh on show, no minis etc. That dress would have been completely out of place and inappropriate at both.

Raineth · 26/03/2023 17:42

For an Italian evening non-church wedding the style is perfect.

The fabric will be unforgiving. If you don’t plan to eat a lot, have an incredible figure, and no post-kids tum pouch, it could work 🤷‍♀️

Accessories either gold or a pale pink would look fantastic.

Got2besoon · 26/03/2023 17:44

Absolutely stunning. If you wouldn't wear this chic dress for an evening wedding in Italy, when the hell would you?!

Viviennemary · 26/03/2023 17:45

Totally unsuitable. Colour fabric and style, Awful colour, sweaty fabric and far too revealing, You need to think again.

ValerieDoonican · 26/03/2023 17:49

I would imagine any sweat would show up vividly asdark wet patches. And there will be sweat , it could well be stiflingly warm still at 5.30 while you are facing zipping yourself in to that...

I don't deny it's a lovely dress but I would definitely go for something non-shiny

PrinceHaz · 26/03/2023 17:56

If you sweat in the floral one the sweat patches are more likely to be camouflaged than in the green one.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 26/03/2023 17:59

I think it's gorgeous, and silk doesn't make me sweat - mind you I'm not a very sweaty person.
