Italian summer wedding guest dress: yes or no?

JollieJullie · 26/03/2023 16:52

I am attending a wedding in Italy in July. The wedding and reception will be held in a villa's garden, so no church. Dress code is "chic garden party". Needless to say, it will be very hot!

I have my eyes on this particular dress, I love the back and the shade of green. Do you think it could work? Do you like it? Not sure about the shoes yet, maybe something gold? Thanks for your advice!

Definitely not. Too bridesmaidy, too formal, too silk, too show off. It's a great dress for a black tie do in the UK, totally unsuitable for a wedding in Italy.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/03/2023 18:39

We need some context. What size are you? I'd look like a dumpy spud in that, but if you're slim : sexy curvy and willing to go knickeless, then I agree with a pp that the floral one fits the theme better but they are both lovely

JollieJullie · 26/03/2023 18:41

Point taken in regard to creasing! I don't typically sweat much so I am less worried about it. Also, the wedding is in a hilly area so slightly elevated, I hope that will help a bit with the temperature!

This jumpsuit could be an alternative? Still silk but darker colour: https://www.thereformation.com/products/sasha-silk-jumpsuit/1311974NGD.html?dwvar1311974NGDD_color=NGD&quantity=1

That's an evening dress. Style and fabric NOT suitable for daytime gardenparty wedding (will show every bead of sweat).

You want a simple dress that's no longer than midcalf, it could either be plain and tailored, or a n Audrey Hepburn boat neck, sleeveless, little waist, flared skirt.

There is a whiff of head girl superiority in some of these replies.

I think it's a nice dress. If you think you can carry it off in terms of Italian chic then go for it. If not, I'd maybe go for something easier to wear.

maddy68 · 26/03/2023 18:43

I think you I'll be too hot a sweaty in that material

I am 5'6" and fairly slim/ slender, so hopefully the dress works well with my body shapeSmile

The first dress is far too much like a bridesmaid's dress, alongside all the issues with creasing, sweat patches etc.

I LOVE the darker jumpsuit in you second post OP. It's beautiful and stylish but would not make you look like you're part of the wedding party.

Are you tall and slim OP?

I prefer that to the original one but still prefer the pink floral one.

Slimjimtobe · 26/03/2023 18:46

I love it !!

No, that is still evening wear style and fabric.

If there are Italian women there, they will be exquisitely groomed , wearing something cool, linen, very simple and elegant.

DO NOT go dressed as an escort in a night club.

ilovemyslippers · 26/03/2023 18:57

It looks synthetic and it's obviously close fitting. In July in Italy you will be melting, and dress will probably show sweat stains. It would be nice for a party in the UK.

JollieJullie · 26/03/2023 19:05

Just realized that the dress comes in linen too: www.thereformation.com/products/casette-linen-dress/1312295WIW.html

Maybe that's an option?

The linen is far better imho!

CalamityClam · 26/03/2023 19:09

Gorgeous in linen! Like the orange one too.

hettiethehare · 26/03/2023 19:13

Love the dress in linen - especially the orange as long as it suits your colouring!

I don't like the silk dresses or jumpsuit at all - I think they actually look quite cheap even though the cut is great.

bubbles2023 · 26/03/2023 19:17

I don't like it in linen. But I don't think it's suitable in the silk for the climate.

doodleygirl · 26/03/2023 19:17

Love the linen option

2bazookas · 26/03/2023 19:18

It is an evening ceremony and reception though!

The dress code is GARDENPARTY chic.

Not, city venue, not nightclub, not sophisticated hotel.

Its a rural wedding in the hills. Its in the evening because the garden would be far too hot in the day.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 26/03/2023 19:20

Silk/satin isn't very forgiving figure wise.Id do a similar style in a different material.

Linen or not - most Italians would consider this dress way too revealing for a wedding

Movinghouseatlast · 26/03/2023 19:22

I saw that dress and immediately saw sweat patches.

It also isn't garden party style, it's more evening wear. I think something a bit more floaty would be the thing.

KillingLoneliness · 26/03/2023 19:22

Just RTR, go for the linen one! It’s beautiful! 😍
