Italian summer wedding guest dress: yes or no?

JollieJullie · 26/03/2023 16:52

I am attending a wedding in Italy in July. The wedding and reception will be held in a villa's garden, so no church. Dress code is "chic garden party". Needless to say, it will be very hot!

I have my eyes on this particular dress, I love the back and the shade of green. Do you think it could work? Do you like it? Not sure about the shoes yet, maybe something gold? Thanks for your advice!

It is a very look at me dress. Fine if that is what you are after.

Oh dear. Confused
Should the OP wear a twinset and sit quietly in the corner?

The pink floral version has a more wedding feel to it. The green looks like sexy evening wear to me, but you'll have a better idea what others will be wearing.

This. It would still work with gold shoes, too.

RTFT* 😂 I typed too quickly!

Linen or not - most Italians would consider this dress way too revealing for a wedding

Revealing!? It just has a cut out back, how is that revealing?

Laquila · 26/03/2023 19:26

The green floral linen one is perfect! Is it an Italian couple, OP? Just wondering about the guest demographic! IME there is more than one kind of rural Italian wedding...it could be a traditional (slightly shabby chic) fairly conservative affair or more of a The Bride's A Supermodel and so are all her friends type thing...

If it were me I'd look for something along these lines: Mango floral sleeveless jumpsuit - not too clingy, don't need to worry too much about specific underwear/bra, works with various accessories and shoes and crucially won't show too many creases or marks, from sweat or otherwise. I almost always wear prints to weddings now for that reason, hot country or not! I also think a wide-leg jumpsuit looks good with flats or heels.

The linen version is beautiful!

I've got that dress! I absolutely love it but it does clearly show VPL according to DH so I feel less confident in it now 😪

Can you get hold of any hessian/sackcloth, OP? 🤣

"Linen or not - most Italians would consider this dress way too revealing for a wedding"

@snygghygge I don't know, I am Italian and it looks fairly ok to me? It covers legs and chest and shows shoulders and a little bit of back.. But I understand that different people have different opinions on this topic and point taken that for some this dress might be too skimpy. Thank you for your advice!

Oops I the fonts got swapped, the quote bit was meant to be italics, not the rest!

The couple is international but both live abroad (as in a different country from where they are originally from).

He is Italian, she is French. I expect the guest list will be very international. There will be roughly 180 guests.

Oh! What fabric is yours?

It is the green one. It goes brilliantly with blonde and auburn hair in particular.

JollieJullie · 26/03/2023 19:33

@onetimenamec do you have the silk or linen version? It comes in both fabrics!

Sorry, the silk one.

JollieJullie · 26/03/2023 19:35

@onetimenamec is it very unforgiving? How about the creasing/ sweaty patches?

BettySundaes · 26/03/2023 19:36

I love the silk, if you have the figure to pull it off. If you think it doesn't quite meet the chic garden party brief then go with the linen one.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 26/03/2023 19:37

Jersey is a much warmer fabric than silk. If people think the OP will be too hot in silk, she'll melt in jersey.

Personally I find silk a lovely fabric as it's warm when it's cold and cooling when hot. I wear silk pyjamas year round for that reason.

Flamingolip · 26/03/2023 19:38

I think it’s gorgeous! And suitable for this kind of wedding.
