Evening Royal style and beauty fans.
Into the Carolean era, with more bling we hope! Also more state banquets?

Me too Sophie always seemed to be the poor relation. However, looking back Fergie wore some gorgeous pieces. The meanness came later. I'm looking at a palace employee or more who got a little above themselves

We’re any of the pieces Sarah Ferguson wore royal jewels? I thought she one wore a new tiara/necklace/ bracelet/earrings set that the Queen bought for her.

NiqueNique · 04/10/2022 14:42

Yes I think Sarah and Sophie both wore new items bought for them. Makes sense as once a tiara is loaned it’ll only be worn by that individual.

That's not true.

Tiaras can be loaned just for a specific occasion as well as on a more long term basis.

The Queen Mary Fringe has been loaned to both Princess Anne and Princess Beatrice and was worn by HMQ in between.

NiqueNique · 04/10/2022 15:06

True - I did think better of that statement but couldn’t be bothered to explain what I meant nor to delete! You’re right, but I think weddings are a different matter. As in I don’t think Beatrice would have worn/will wear that tiara at any other point.

NiqueNique · 04/10/2022 15:08

Beatrice and Anne are both princesses by birth, of course, which also makes a difference in this sort of dispensation with the rules, I think.

NiqueNique · 04/10/2022 15:09

(As well as Anne being the daughter of the Monarch!)

Tassen · 04/10/2022 15:58

I wonder who will be the new head librarian in HMQ's jewellery lending library?

Would be lovely if Angela could still do it though she may not want to even if asked, too many memories?

eggandonion · 04/10/2022 16:02

I hope Beatrice and Eugenie can have some sort of future role, even at a lower table at state banquets. Imagine never wearing a tiara again!

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 04/10/2022 16:07

I thought the reason that Sarah F and Sophie were gifted tiaras not loaned one for their wedding might have been to ensure that they would have a tiara to wear in future and to pass on as they were not as likely to have long-term access to the items owned by the crown in the way that Diana and Kate would.

Diana wore her own family tiara as is tradition. Kate didn't have one but there was no need for her to have her own given her future role.

Anne of course wore a family tiara for her wedding but has her own tiara (the Greek key) that is hers to use as she sees fit, her daughter wore it for her wedding, and it can be inherited by her children.

NiqueNique · 04/10/2022 16:21

Yes I think that was the general idea behind it.

I volunteer! 😀

NiqueNique · 04/10/2022 17:00

Wouldn't that be the most fantastic job??

Maireas · 04/10/2022 17:07

I would bluddy love that job.
Heaven.
If I send in the Spreadsheet of Splendour, do you think the Palace would let us have a rummage?.

Beatrice’s dress aka HMQ’s gown

I had no idea this was a vintage gown of HM’s. I didn’t take much interest at the time. That’s really lovely. I love this gown but also I liked HM Queens wedding dress as I love vintage style, thought this was very elegant and unfussy. I also thought Camilla looked lovely

chesterelly1 · 04/10/2022 18:40

Maireas I think if you send in the Spreadsheet of Splendour the job would be as good as yours. How could they not be impressed by your diligence?

Is there an emerald tiara unclaimed on the spreadsheet? DS caught me looking earlier and had some strong opinions on the one Mummy ought to have (good lad, he’ll go far) 👑

Woohoo! The emeralds are detachable so it’s also suitable for dress-down Friday 👍👑

NiqueNique · 04/10/2022 20:06

Ohhh @Spudlet that’s a beauty! My emeralds are detachable too, so I’ll join you in being suitably dressed down on Fridays. 👑😄

paradyning · 04/10/2022 20:15

Sophie's wedding tiara was actually made from 3 broches, hence the odd shape.

I always wondered what her actual dress looked like under the wedding coat.
