Evening Royal style and beauty fans.
Into the Carolean era, with more bling we hope! Also more state banquets?

Re: the Danish thing, various Twitter accounts report that:

"According to the communications person of Danish Royal Court, Joachim was told back in May and has been 'involved and oriented throughout the process'".

So I would assume that Joachim and Marie knew some time ago, but his ex-wife maybe didn't? I think it's her making the daily-mail-sad-face statements, isn't it?

NiqueNique · 29/09/2022 09:33

Prince Joachim has reacted to the news today (sorry for the stilted translation, I’m using an app as I don’t have time to write it out myself):

Prince Joachim has reacted to the decision his mother, Queen Margrethe, has made about the children's titles.

  • We are all very sad. It's never fun to see your children being mistreated. They are in a situation they themselves do not understand, says a clearly affected Prince Joachim to Ekstra Bladet, who has met the prince in Paris.

Prince Joachim further tells Ekstra Bladet that back in May he was presented with a plan about the children's titles, but that it would only happen when the children each turned 25. Prince Nikolai is 23, Prince Felix 20, Prince Henrik 13 and Princess Athena is 10 years old.

Serenster · 29/09/2022 09:36

Oh dear, sounds like there’s some dramas going on behind the scenes in the Danish Royal Family too…

(I know Princess Marie had earlier indicated that she and Joachim had not to moved to France by choice, despite the fact that she is French and Prince Joachim half-French).

NiqueNique · 29/09/2022 09:38

A shaken Prince Joachim is now talking about how much notice he received from his mother about the sensational decision she has made that Prince Joachim's four children will no longer have the title of prince and princess from 1 January.

Extra Bladet has been to Paris and met the prince. They have asked him how long he has known. - Five days, answers Prince Joachim.

It has been reported from the Royal House that Prince Joachim has been informed since May, but via Countess Alexandra, Prince Joachim let the public understand yesterday that the announcement came like a bolt from the blue. To that, Prince Joachim explains: - In May, I was presented with a plan which, by and large, was that when the children each turned 25, it would happen. Athena turns 11 in January. I was given five days' notice of this, says a clearly upset prince, as he is on his way to work in Paris.

-Taken from Billed Bladet.

Yes there’s definitely more than a little going on behind the scenes. There have been rumours about a rift (which I don’t pay much attention to because I don’t much like drama).

I don’t think this has been done the right way and to me it seems very unlike Margrethe to make such a heavy-handed move that can be seen to be deliberately humiliating for the Prince and his children (without valid reason). Interesting development.

NiqueNique · 29/09/2022 09:52

Anyway. To get back to fashion/style, Daisy attended an event last night at the National Museum.

I wonder how relations are between the 2 brothers and their lookalike wives? There was a family photo released over summer with some very interesting body language. It's all rather strange.

RockaLock · 29/09/2022 11:57

Gosh, it all makes the British royal family tensions look like nothing in comparison!

It does appear to have been handled quite badly.

NiqueNique · 29/09/2022 12:00

Yes quite.

To paraphrase a poster on another thread whose thoughts on the timing of this decision echo my own, I get the sense quite strongly that plans were accelerated to ensure it would not potentially look like Fred is removing the titles of his brother’s children.

But that’s as far as I’m going to delve into speculation about this.

Spudlet · 29/09/2022 12:35

Hopefully it’s just a case of her deciding to get things into gear, prompted by having just attended the funeral of her contemporary. Sometimes these things do make you consider your own mortality and decided to get your house into order a bit. It doesn’t necessarily presage anything. Just makes you think about things you might not have wanted to consider.

NiqueNique · 29/09/2022 12:38

True, of course. However if there is no matter of urgency then it was certainly, in my view, the wrong way to go about it. There was no need to be quite so publically dismissive. Joachim looked visibly upset this morning. As I’d probably be, too, on my children’s behalf, were I the parent in this specific situation!

justasking111 · 29/09/2022 12:39

Our queen bless her was a soft touch family wise which has left Charles to bite the bullet and streamline now. It's something we had to think about so set up a trust for the business equal shares for all.

FIL did the same many years ago. So it's wise to plan

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 29/09/2022 12:46

This is quite a long watch but for anyone interested there is a fair bit of bling on show tiaras brooches etc. Royal documentary from 1992

NiqueNique · 29/09/2022 12:49

Yes the plan itself is sensible and the rationale is absolutely sound. It’s certainly not unexpected in Denmark, either, as it has been understood that the situation would need to be addressed. But the way it’s been done is highly unusual and has created a bit of controversy that didn’t really need to exist in my view.

My instinct is that Margrethe is simply being pragmatic - it makes sense after HMQ’s funeral; it’s quite natural to consider one’s own mortality in reaction to experiencing bereavements of peers, particularly, I’d imagine, when one is a Queen Regnant mourning another Queen regnant’s death - but I think she maybe hadn’t fully considered the immediate aftermath and how it would be taken by the relevant individuals, nor the optics of it!

I love this colour and I see she has a huge emerald coloured ring too to match. Is this lady the Queen of Denmark ?

NiqueNique · 29/09/2022 12:58

Yes she is, and the only remaining Queen Regnant in the world now that Elizabeth has died. She is also the longest-serving head of state in the world, I believe, as although there is a longer-serving Monarch, he has not been HOS for the whole of his reign.

That colour is one of my absolute favourites!

NiqueNique · 29/09/2022 13:17

For a bit of frivolous fashion focus, here are some of the Danish princes’ modelling shots.

It does seem a bit shocking, especially to us ordinary mortals, who for the most part probably strive to treat our children and grandchildren as equally as possible. Obviously, it's different for royals in this day and age where people are likely questioning hereditary privilege of all sorts, but I think it would be better to handle these things prospectively, if at all possible.

And I do dislike the stated rationale as though they are doing the children a favor. Royal titles don't necessarily prevent holders from earning a living or living a more private life. The change is to benefit the Royal House, not the children.

It's interesting that they took the model of the Netherlands rather than Sweden.
Prince Constantijn and Prince Friso's children are Count/Countess, but I think that determination was made before they were born.

NiqueNique · 29/09/2022 13:23

And one of Joachim, Marie and all four of his children earlier this month.

NiqueNique · 29/09/2022 13:33

@SenecaFallsRedux yes I do agree on that - ultimately the move is being made in order to safeguard the Royal household just as much, if not more, than it is being done to benefit the Queen’s grandchildren. It comes across as much more cynical when in juxtaposition to the agreeability of the overall plan, the move itself is so abrupt, unexpected and also causes genuine, palpable hurt to an entire side of the Queen’s immediate family.

In regards to titles, all the children involved already had the relevant titles, given to them in 2008, I think, so I suppose it was just the easiest way to make the change.

SenecaFallsRedux · 29/09/2022 13:45

I wonder what effect, if any, this event will have on King Charles's purported intention to issue new Letters Patent and what any new LPs might do.

Serenster · 29/09/2022 14:50

Moving away from family tensions to happier news, the royal court of Luxembourg has announced that thread mascot baby Prince Charles* will soon be getting a baby brother of sister. Awww! I am very happy for his family. 😀

*I suppose there is no longer the possibility of confusion between Prince Charles and King Charles!

NiqueNique · 29/09/2022 15:17

Ah how lovely. 😊

Yes there’s only one Prince Charles now!

This is such happy news! I'm delighted for them all. I'm sure the new baby will be adorable but could never take the place of our much-cherished Thread Mascot!
