Evening Royal style and beauty fans.
Into the Carolean era, with more bling we hope! Also more state banquets?

That sounds brilliant! What fantastic fun!

It certainly is! You have to listen carefully at the start of each dance and the steps and moves are read out. Now, I can usually remember about the first 3 or 4 moves and then it goes completely to pot! You just have to keep an eye on the couples further up the set so you know what to do. The girls are a lovely bunch and we have a great laugh.

😳well… @KillingMeDeftly, that’s certainly a much better look on Edward than the double breasted suits! I didn’t recognise him. Yes, to him looking more Prince Philip, and also a bit like Peter Phillips who is also like him.

Not exactly style-related but I spotted this photo on the RF's Insta and had to read the caption before I realised it was Edward! It's the first time I've thought he looked like Prince Philip.

Actually maybe it is style-related as the uniform is a better look than his signature double-breasted suits!

Wowzers. The uniform/army fatigues/whatever they’re called maketh the man. He looks more purposeful or something .

I'm a member of our local Scottish-American society, and we do a bit of Scottish country dancing now and then. We don't get much more adventurous than the Gay Gordons or Eightsome Reel, though. And certainly not in high heels.

I sustained a minor fracture to the foot after an energetic Scottish ceilidh. Got spun. Didn’t end well.

I recall some amazing Irish wedding receptions. After the food the dancing began but not a DJ with a deck but the fiddles and accordians. The dancing was incredible and exhausting

Thank you for the link to the Scottish dancing clip of the queen. You don’t hear her giving interviews very much. What insightful comments. It’s all about the training.

mathanxiety · 26/09/2022 00:43

I love Camilla's stick insect brooch.

There was a documentary made in 1969 that was a year in the life of the Royal Family it’s on YouTube. It is obviously quite dated it style.

There is also another one from the 90s that is on BBCIPlayer now, I’m wondering if that might be where that clip is from.

Some pretty sedate feeling there ime. Although I'd go slow if I was dancing with the Queen mum and HM in the Girls tiara!

She must have been about 90 there! It's probably the sort of thing where it's an honour to dance with her, but you're relieved at the end when you hand her back safely. Grin

K&W are off to Wales today - red coat???

NiqueNique · 27/09/2022 09:29

Well! We shall see...

I’m hoping (against hope, bless our Kate) that she’ll go a little more subtle with her literal/reference dressing from now on.

Red might look a little too stark after the continuous black for mourning, so maybe a burgundy?

Tassen · 27/09/2022 09:33

I think we'll see one of Kate's many green coats probably the darkest green as green is also on the Welsh flag.

NiqueNique · 27/09/2022 09:52

Yes that’s true. And it goes with the autumnal feel.

Serenster · 27/09/2022 10:24

I’m putting my money on dark coat with a bright scarf with red in it. Too much to hope that she’ll wear a brooch with Welsh connections…?

KillingMeDeftly · 27/09/2022 10:26

Maybe she'll carry a leek in one hand?

If she doesn’t carry this, we’ll all be disappointed now … 🤣

I was hoping for a themed brooch! That’s the kind of subtle nod to the host or region that I think she should go for from now on. It’s a lot more grown up and more fitting of their new roles, I think.

NiqueNique · 27/09/2022 10:46

*to their new roles

meateatingveggie · 27/09/2022 10:55

Isn't purple a traditional 'not quite in mourning' colour?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 27/09/2022 11:05

Yep, grey and purple were the "half-mourning" colours.

Before that (going a long time back, possibly Tudor?) I think they'd wear black dresses but be allowed to change to white or coloured sleeves laced on after certain amounts of time. So I could see dark colours but with brighter scarves etc for a while.

ChimneyPot · 27/09/2022 11:52

There a number of Prince of Wales feathers brooches in the Royal collection so maybe one of those?

meateatingveggie · 27/09/2022 12:02

Ooo the one with the emerald... start as you mean to go on Kate Smile

NiqueNique · 27/09/2022 12:03

Yes! I do hope Charles and Camilla have passed those on to Kate as it would be lovely for her to be able to wear them! Ohhhh I hope we see the emerald drop today!

ChimneyPot · 27/09/2022 12:12

Wallis Simpson had a better one though
