Evening Royal style and beauty fans.
Into the Carolean era, with more bling we hope! Also more state banquets?

Some epic dancing going on here.

CPM is in a repeat frock. Thing she's worn that one a few times. Kudos for dancing in it!

Spudlet · 25/09/2022 09:32

Fair play to her for staying upright while doing that dance! I thought she was teetering a couple of times, but the woman is a pro. Beautiful, beautiful dress, but not necessarily made for dancing - not that sort of dancing, anyway 😅

Thanks for posting this - amazing to watch this dancing! It looks terribly complicated!

I love her red gown 💕

KillingMeDeftly · 25/09/2022 10:47

That dancing is hilarious! It looks like a throwback to Victorian times, only everyone’s a little bit pissed.

Serenster · 25/09/2022 11:10

I love how they are throwing themselves into it without a care as to how it looks!

We had dancing like that at our wedding! DH hates dancing but likes dancing with instructions so we had a barn dance 😂 Mind you, I had a tea length wedding dress so not quite up there with CPM. But it was a hoot. A friend had something similar (tbh we copied them!) and the vicar’s wife was sent flying across the dance floor into a tree at one point (both she and the tree were fine!).

I can’t quite imagine Kate or Meghan flinging themselves into a barn dance, but CPM would have fit right in.

justasking111 · 25/09/2022 12:00

Remember all the Scottish reels at Balmoral they looked fun

justasking111 · 25/09/2022 12:02

They look so young

Spudlet · 25/09/2022 12:16

True - perhaps I underestimate the barn dancing prowess of the British Royals! No one seems to have hit a tree though 😂

paradyning · 25/09/2022 12:25

Some pretty sedate feeling there ime. Although I'd go slow if I was dancing with the Queen mum and HM in the Girls tiara!

paradyning · 25/09/2022 12:25

*reeling

KillingMeDeftly · 25/09/2022 12:51

I can't imagine Kate or Meghan flinging themselves into a dance like that either @Spudlet! Maxima on the other hand...

This is lovely thank you for posting. Which documentary is it from ? Was it the 1990 one ?
I remember reading that Prince Philip was not keen on wearing a kilt at first as he thought they were too like a skirt, and that when he met George VI at Balmoral he thought it would be funny to curtsy as he was wearing a kilt!

ChimneyPot · 25/09/2022 15:15

What necklace is QE wearing in that film?

We did s lot of set dancing the whole way through school in Ireland. My brother had a ceili for his wedding which was great fun and some wedding would still have one set dance at some stage during the evening.

KillingMeDeftly · 25/09/2022 15:25

Not exactly style-related but I spotted this photo on the RF's Insta and had to read the caption before I realised it was Edward! It's the first time I've thought he looked like Prince Philip.

Actually maybe it is style-related as the uniform is a better look than his signature double-breasted suits!

It;s the King Faisal necklace - a gift from the King of Saudi Arabia in the 1960s

I agree he look the most like Philip out of all the sons. I noticed it at the funeral when he was in uniform. Hadn’t noticed before as you generally don’t see much of Edward

Interesting, like the writer of the article I think it would make a great tiara. One I could see myself wearing if the need arose!

I'm a member of our local Scottish-American society, and we do a bit of Scottish country dancing now and then. We don't get much more adventurous than the Gay Gordons or Eightsome Reel, though. And certainly not in high heels.

Maireas · 25/09/2022 17:43

Interesting, Seneca, I've recently been found by some American cousins who were tracing ancestry. One of them is a member of Chicago's Caledonian society and has sent me pictures of them doing the Reels and the Gay Gordons!

I go to Scottish country dancing. We just started back last week for our new session. It's absolutely fantastic! Very hard work and is great for training your memory!
We have 24 members from about 18-mid 70s and all have an absolute hoot!

Maireas · 25/09/2022 17:49

That sounds brilliant! What fantastic fun!

I've been to a couple of weddings that had a cèilidh and they were all great fun. Even more fun when there's several hours between ceremony and reception and all you've been served is a few canapés and copious glasses of champagne...
