Evening Royal style and beauty fans.
Into the Carolean era, with more bling we hope! Also more state banquets?

Goodness that’s quite a piece!

I prefer the emerald drop though - I quite like dinky brooches.

(Ahem... @Maireas please may I have the emerald drop Prince of Wales feathers brooch? Also please could you check if the Delhi Durbar necklace is spoken for? I’d quite like a full emerald set.... Ta 💐)

Serenster · 27/09/2022 12:38

Gosh, Wallis’ brochure is stunning! Huge, but stunning.

Serenster · 27/09/2022 12:39

Grrr, autocorrect, brooch!

meateatingveggie · 27/09/2022 12:41

A red coat and no brooch! Oh Kate, how disappointing 🙁

NiqueNique · 27/09/2022 12:43

Well it was rather hopeful to think that the relevantjewels would already have been passed along, tbf.

Ah well.

Serenster · 27/09/2022 12:48

Oh well, maybe next time…

The coat looks to have a horse’s bit embellishment on the pockets - it would definitely be a surprise if she’s wearing Gucci!

ChimneyPot · 27/09/2022 12:59

Not Gucci, LK Bennett

RomainingCalm · 27/09/2022 13:21

It's red!

I'd put that in the 'safe but looking lovely' category. They look happy to be back in Anglesey.

meateatingveggie · 27/09/2022 13:23

I really don't like red with black.. red with navy would have been so much better imo.

(Not that I'm a style expert, obviously 😂)

KillingMeDeftly · 27/09/2022 13:39

It's a bit boring but fine, I guess.

William really needs to just shave what's left of his hair off, or clip it much closer, and embrace that look. The fringe of hair all the way around is very ageing and he's only 40!

SenecaFallsRedux · 27/09/2022 14:26

Buckingham Palace has released the design of the King's new cypher. I like it.

K&W are off to Wales today - red coat???

Well... what a surprise!!! I really like how she has worn trousers a lot more in the last few years. I like the look today, mostly like the coat except for the brassy bits on the pockets.

Lampzade · 27/09/2022 15:09

Those trousers look similar to the trousers Meghan wore a few weeks ago.
in fact Kate’s outfit looks like something Meghan would wear

KillingMeDeftly · 27/09/2022 15:24

I've definitely noticed Kate wearing a lot of stuff similar to what Meghan used to - it's quite a (welcome) change from her endless coat dresses and nude heels.

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 27/09/2022 15:36

I wonder if we will see more trousers/shoulders/red nails etc - all the things that the tabloids love to tell are against the rules (but were worn by the Queen and Margaret when they were young) once the family are completely out of mourning? I don't think the Queen banned these things but I do wonder if the younger generation were more conservative when planning outfits for fear of upsetting granny? It was an unspoken rule in my family that no one wore jeans at family events but the first get together after Granny's funeral saw three or four of my cousins in jeans.

Spudlet · 27/09/2022 15:39

Well, a red coat! I like it. I thought they’d be in muted colours for a while, but it’s good to see some brighter colours.

Wallis - fairly awful person (her husband
was worse mind you), awesome jewellery collection 😂

KillingMeDeftly · 27/09/2022 16:14

I read an interesting novel about Wallis recently that posits the theory that she didn't want to marry David but that he backed her into a corner. I know it was fiction but it's a theory I've come across before, and that she didn't really want to divorce Ernest but after the abdication she felt she had no choice.

David sounds like he was exhausting to be around.

Maireas · 27/09/2022 16:19

Interesting.
I've read a lot of books about Wallis and Edward, I find the whole subject fascinating. She certainly was not the driver for marriage, that definitely was Edward. She had, shall we say, various irons in the fire.

I like Kate's red coat, it's a lovely cheerful shade.

KillingMeDeftly · 27/09/2022 16:24

I suspect she was a social climber who was just trying to gain a higher status for her and Ernest but ended up biting off more than she could chew.

And I also suspect that David was looking for a way to get out of being king and if it hadn't been Wallis it would've been someone else.

The novel's characterisation of the QM is amusing - Wallis wonders how she feels to be cast as the nation's favourite gin-swilling gran when previously she was very conscious of her aristocratic position. It's interesting, as those of us who can remember the QM will only remember her in very old age!

Maireas · 27/09/2022 16:38

Yes, QM was very aristocratic and could be very imperious. David wanted to hold on to his kingship but was not prepared to compromise.
Wallis had a close friendship with von Ribbentrop and the security of the red dispatch boxes was of concern to the cabinet. There was a lot going on at Fort Belvedere.

Anyone interested in the Duke and Duchess of Windsor - I highly recommend the book ‘Traitor King’ and the British Scandal podcast series about the abdication. I felt some sympathy for her - the press treated her very badly indeed. On the other hand, they both had demonstrable Nazi sympathies and connections, which does temper the sympathy levels somewhat…!

Maireas · 27/09/2022 16:55

Thanks, @Spudlet! Yes, it's difficult to have sympathy for those who would support a Nazi regime and encourage it's success.
A very interesting era.

I went to a Cartier exhibition some years ago and they had a number of pieces formerly owned by Wallis. Some of them were shockingly gaudy - no subtly, just full on gigantic bling.

To be fair the same could also be said of some of Elizabeth Taylor’s pieces in the same exhibit!

NiqueNique · 27/09/2022 17:19

‘Not so vulgar now, is it?’
