Evening Royal style and beauty fans.
Into the Carolean era, with more bling we hope! Also more state banquets?

You never saw Diana in skyscraper heels either. Lots of low heels with even the high ones much lower than would be worn these days. Check out the pictures of the revenge dress, I would be surprised if those shoes had more than a three inch heel.

I know Diana was tall but so is Kate.

I'm not a massive fan of wedges for smart occasions but a block heel or a chunkier heel would look much more modern. For day wear I don't think they need to be so high either.

I think the problem for Diana wearing heels was she would have been taller than Charles, I think Kate is 5ft 10 ? But obviously William is still taller than her think he’s 6ft 3 I think. But like I said the really high heels weren’t in.

It was when they were married, and she wore flat shoes in the early years to avoid looking taller than Charles but she didn't wear super high shoes even after the divorce. Look at pictures of her in the revenge dress, her heels look very conservative compared to those being worn by Kate/Megan/Beatrice at the funeral. Keep in mind too that Kate is older than Diana.

Hello Royal S&B aficionados. Just nipping on to say thank you for the commentary and insights over the last couple of weeks. I've lurked (and occasionally commented) on these threads from the very first one, and they have been a little oasis of sanity amongst some of the more, er, batshit Royal threads that have popped up recently Grin

My contribution is this photo which appeared in my Facebook feed. I thought you might appreciate it (though it does seem familiar so maybe it's been posted before?)

That you for this link! So interesting. I wonder what the Kent's thought too.
I have also been wondering who the lady was in the immense outfit!

Brooch rabbit hole. There's a bow one too

AgathaMystery · 24/09/2022 16:14

Has anyone read ‘read my pins’ by Madeline Albright? It’s just a fantastic book.

viewsoftheshard · 24/09/2022 16:15

I am seriously getting tempted to start wearing brooches this winter. I fell in love with jewellery when I was about 12 after reading a book on the Duchesd of Windsor’s collection. It has been so lovely catching up on these threads the past couple of days. I was very lucky to be able to view the funeral procession from an office window. It was an amazing, dignified sight.

Maireas · 24/09/2022 16:18

I always wear a jacket to work and have started to wear a brooch on the lapel. I have quite a few from my late mother and aunts. Not valuable, but pretty and colourful.
I have a colleague always wears one on her cardigan!

@Maireas i think I’m going to follow your lead. My youngest son (he was 6) bought me a brooch for my birthday once, and have never worn it, as it was a bit random at the time. I had to wear all black for work during the National Mourning period, and a brooch would have lifted it a bit.

Oh that’s a good idea wearing on cardi, I don’t work now so don’t wear a nice jacket or coat. People don’t seem to wear formal coats much anymore I feel a bit overdressed wearing mine

Maireas · 24/09/2022 16:37

I had a box full, so decided to wear them.
They look nice on the cardigans too, she has a cute cat one that looks lovely.

Saw some insect ones and thought of Camilla.

justasking111 · 24/09/2022 16:41

I'm not sure about insects though

I have a few antique brooches, but the only one I’ve ever worn belonged to grandma. It’s a pretty AB Crystal spray, with a gold ? coloured setting. I wore it on my bag on my wedding day.

I wonder if Camilla family buy her the insect brooches a family joke

Seems other royals like bugs

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 24/09/2022 20:11

I love Mathilde's bow brooch, it does look like shimmery fabric.
The jeweller is extremely talented.

I have quite a few brooches but unfortunately some of the pin clasps have broken (come off at the side hinge) & as they're only costume jewellery albeit vintage they're not really worth anything & would probably be expensive to get repaired at a jewellers.

Though just had a thought, maybe I should apply to the Repair Shop as some of the brooches were my grandmother's or do a jewellery making/mending course.

Eaumyword · 24/09/2022 22:32

Go for it @TracyBeakerSoYeah !

Aristocratic bug brooch wearing is definitely a thing - I remember seeing a lovely photo of Debo Devonshire wearing a large diamond spider, talking to (I think it was) Camilla, who was wearing something like a bee.
When you look round the National Trust stately home gift shops, as I enjoying doing these days, they tend to sell pretty bug brooches.

I used to wear a flower corsage brooch on my jacket for work, I loved them and had heaps in different colours. Now I'm much more casual!
