Ordered another pleated midi skirt. In the ad and my imagination one would wear it with a simple plain t-shirt or blouse and it would make you look classic, elegant, have this summer in the city vibe.

In reality - Russian babushka with an arse the size of a small country.
It's always like that and every 6 months and so I will still order another, just to try if things have changed. They will not have changed.

Do others have stuff that just doesn't work as advertised?

Oh and also smocked waist - great. Smocked but ending just under boobs - might as well wear a tent.

If that picture of the blue dress is you, you look amazing! Not remotely tent like!

I bought some ripped light blue jeans. Hello Tiffany from Ohio circa 1988.😩

Afraid not, just a photo from shop website. Would definitely look like a tent.

I am actually getting quite puzzled now. How come:

  • shirred/smocked waist dresses (Hush Kensington type) are super flattering on me
  • drawstring dresses - looking good
  • So belted dresses should be lovely too, right? Just tried this one from Desigual and could go to a fancy dress party as sack of spuds with a string around it.
What is this sorcery?

Exactly the same here! And exactly as baffled! I look like a bolster with a string tied around its middle in belted dresses.

For me, belted dresses have to be quite snug or fitted with seams and darts.

The dress that @KatharinaRosalie posted is too baggy in the upper torso and has (i suspect) a batwing. Anything like that makes me look like the hulk.
