Trainers at a wedding in 2022

Shinyandnew2022 · 30/03/2022 17:42

I have an April wedding to go to - first one in years and am planning to wear a silk midi length dress with some brand new smart flatform trainers in emerald green .

Came a cross a thread on here from 2018 and most posters were appalled at the idea Grin
What do people think - is this ok post pandemic or will I get there and feel judged ?

If relevant I am nobody at this event just a friend of the MoB and I had decided I would liberate myself from the tyranny of aching feet ! It's my first wedding where I have made the generation shift .. but don't want to look too middle aged and past it .

They sound lovely and absolute fine to me. Staggering about (and sinking into grass) in heels is sooooo last season! :)

AgathaX · 30/03/2022 17:54

Good grief no. Completely unsuitable. There are other footwear alternatives to heels that won't shred your feet.

Flyinggeese1234 · 30/03/2022 18:07

I suppose it depended on the type of wedding/dress code and anything is possible (of course people get married in jeans and t shirt) but I’ve never known a wedding casual enough for this to be OK.

ilovecherries · 30/03/2022 18:10

I've had a lot of surgery on one of legs and feet. I wear nothing but trainers. I'm very lucky to be able to walk unaided now as for a long time I couldn't. Oddly enough wearing trainers doesn't detract from my professionalism at work nor make my company at social events any less welcome.

MrsVeryTired · 30/03/2022 18:11

Definitely fine imo

Flyinggeese1234 · 30/03/2022 18:12

Can I say though, a silk midi dress sounds lovely. I’ve never had a silk dress and bet they’re amazing to wear.

anotherbrewplease · 30/03/2022 18:12

Umm - it's a no from me.

Not keen on the whole trainers with a dress/skirt thing anyway.

Definitely not at a wedding, whether they're green or not - sorry.

ApolloandDaphne · 30/03/2022 18:13

Of course you can. The hysteria over what can be worn as weddings on here is mad. I know three brides who wore white dresses and wore white docs, van and Birkies with their respective dresses. I think I come form a family who like comfy feet! If brides can do trainers then you can!

EmmaH2022 · 30/03/2022 18:16

Go ahead!

Shinyandnew2022 · 30/03/2022 18:20

This is so interestingly divided !
It sums up I think why I am hesitant.
I have spent a lot of money on a fabulous dress and don't want to be looked at for being out of step - but I can't see any real reason For it not to be ok - I will definitely look smart and dressed up !
But I am a fashion rule follower so am wary.

I did try on some gorgeous heeled sandals but honestly they would get worn once and that would be that - which also doesn't sit right with me these days .

Wear trainers. Fashionable and sensible.

FuzzyPuffling · 30/03/2022 18:27

I cannot remember the footwear of a single guest at my wedding.

Ha ha I know I often think that when people are up in arms at people wearing dresses that are a bit white and therefore too bridal or too bridesmaidy . I know the bride will not care one bit but what if there are loads of Mumsnet there nudging each other and judging me ?

GreenLunchBox · 30/03/2022 18:34

I'd love to see the dress. Do you have a link?

Ijustreallywantacat · 30/03/2022 18:38

I’m the bride and I’m wearing Vans! My bridesmaids will be wearing white trainers

MaryTheWitch · 30/03/2022 18:39

I'd love to see the green trainers. I feel like i need these in my life! Have you a photo?

NerrSnerr · 30/03/2022 18:39

It's fine- wear what you want.

Some people on here are really rigid about what people should wear to certain events. I didn't care what guests wore on their feet to my wedding (or what else they wore). I wanted their company, not to have them stressed over an outfit.

moonbedazzled · 30/03/2022 18:40

It's a no from me, I'm afraid. It's not that anyone would laugh at you or probably even care. It's just from a personal point of view I don't think a posh dress and trainers go well together.

Abaababa · 30/03/2022 18:42

Ugh. No!

thirstyformore · 30/03/2022 18:44

Someone wore trainers to my friends wedding 10 years ago. We were all very shocked. Probably would be less Shock nowadays

Shinyandnew2022 · 30/03/2022 18:47

Am even more nervous of judgment now !

This is it

I think it looks better in real life. I chose it because I wanted to only spend this much money on things I will wear a lot .

Too many one hit wonders in my wardrobe from previous events .

I wore little white sneakers and a dress to a wedding this weekend. The bridal party all had matching trainers to wear after the ceremony.

Mind you, I wore cowboy boots to my own wedding so...
