Trainers at a wedding in 2022

I have an April wedding to go to - first one in years and am planning to wear a silk midi length dress with some brand new smart flatform trainers in emerald green .

Came a cross a thread on here from 2018 and most posters were appalled at the idea Grin
What do people think - is this ok post pandemic or will I get there and feel judged ?

If relevant I am nobody at this event just a friend of the MoB and I had decided I would liberate myself from the tyranny of aching feet ! It's my first wedding where I have made the generation shift .. but don't want to look too middle aged and past it .

I love the dress and the trainers (have had my eye on them in a different colour for months) but I’m not sure I’d wear them to a wedding. But that’s just me-I don’t think I’d feel dressy enough. I’d probably wear a chunky sandal, maybe a wooden soled clog style as I can’t be arsed with sore feet in heels anymore either!

But if you’d feel happy then go for it as I think it’ll look great. Just don’t do it if you think you’ll feel self conscious on the day.

@NorthFaceofthelaundrypile

Gorgeous outfit combo… though funnily enough I was looking at the Park Up flatforms earlier this evening, and had been thinking of posting to find out if people found them comfy! I was thinking of the white, but also wondering if I could invest in a different colour every year! Now, if only I could find a discount code!
Thanks for the positive comments !

@NorthFaceofthelaundrypile
(Great name BTW) imagine if I wear them and they aren't comfortable! I will update on this.
My Dsis has almost identical from last year and wears them a lot says they are the most comfortable shoes she has so fingers crossed!

OP Trinny Woodhall often wears flat forms like this and she is very stylish indeed IMO if not a little eccentric and always looks great.

Annasgirl · 31/03/2022 13:24

Oh OP, you will look fab. I love the dress. I have a navy patterned midi dress - very dressy - and I wear it with trainers to every formal event. I’m going to have to buy those green trainers to go with it now!

At this age, and post Covid etc, I think we have all decided that life is too short for sore feet. When I think of the wonderful occasions that have been ruined for me by sore feet - and in expensive designer heels 🙄 - I shudder.

My teen DD and all of her friends now wear either trainers or hiking boots with their dresses to parties and clubs - she never plans to wear heels ever!

ExConstance · 31/03/2022 14:48

They are not ordinary trainers, they are lovely! I'd say they would be fine for anything but a very formal wedding. Yes if men are wearing lounge suits, no if it is morning dress.

Mermaidwaves · 31/03/2022 14:48

Really no, trainers won't look right and I'm in the minority that dont think white trainers look good with every dress, alrhough yours are green. I think they actually spoil a dress, they look always look clumpy to me.

There are options between heels and trainers surely? What about some sparkly flats? There will be lots of summery type sandals coming out soon which look would look nice at a wedding.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 31/03/2022 14:52

I think the dress very pretty

but

I think the trainers are both very ugly and very wrong for the dress and occasion...

Katela18 · 31/03/2022 15:48

I think it depends on the type of wedding and the couple getting married?

Honestly i couldnt tell you what most of my guests wore to my wedding last year nor did i care, as long as they were comfortable and had fun!

But my wedding was a relaxed, barn wedding with garden games etc so it wasn't a 'formal' wedding i'd say. I wouldn't have cared if anyone wore trainers, they may well have done for all i remember lol. Can you ask the MoB?

Ballet flats? If you don’t mind getting spendy, tieks are extremely comfortable. I wear mine everywhere.

BestIsWest · 31/03/2022 16:46

Firm yes from me. Love the dress.

HeadNorth · 31/03/2022 16:53

I think ballet flats would take the whole outfit from funky to frumpy in one fell swoop.

@Annasgirl my DD is younger but looked baffled when I asked her opinion as she said 'trainers definitely ' and I started muttering about people expecting me to wear heels - I really hope my DD doesn't end up spending any days /evenings out with feet hurting from impractical shoes !

I know that they are a bit stompy and not everyone's cup of tea for any event let alone a wedding but I was determined not to buy anything I wouldn't wear often as I can't justify it and I just wouldn't wear ballet flats or brogues

Loving this look. You'll look fabulous!

thisplaceisweird · 31/03/2022 17:09

Lovely outfit for a mothers day lunch or a birthday meal - not ok for a wedding.

ArtVandalay · 31/03/2022 17:15

Ballet flats are an abomination. It would render your outfit utterly frumpy. Keep the gorgeous green shoes!

BestIsWest · 31/03/2022 17:38

I now need something similar for an event next week!

NotMeekNotObedient · 31/03/2022 18:56

Please don't. It's a formal event!

ouch12345 · 31/03/2022 19:15

Dress and trainers both absolutely gorgeous! You will look incredible!

WideDyedAndLegless · 31/03/2022 19:42

I love both the dress and the green shoes (I wouldn't class them as Trainers to be honest).
Go for it, you'll look very stylish and be comfortable at the same time.

LittleGwyneth · 31/03/2022 19:52

I think your outfit is divine and very chic. I would have said no to trainers if we were talking a standard pair of white lace ups, but yours aren't really even trainers.

Hornetfarmer · 31/03/2022 20:00

Great outfit. Will look great.

drpet49 · 31/03/2022 20:03

Those green shoes are hideous

nzeire · 31/03/2022 20:07

Fabulous dress! And although I don’t love the shoes, they will go so well with the dress!
And good on you for all the reasons for that outfit! Buying something to wear once is just so wasteful!

peachgreen · 31/03/2022 21:29

Oh I've just only seen the photo of the shoes, it wasn't loading for me before for some reason! I think they're fine. I was picturing, like, Air Max or something!

Figgygal · 31/03/2022 22:32

Still dont think trainers are appropriate especially ones that look like an old nanna orthopaedic shoe
