Trainers at a wedding in 2022

Shinyandnew2022 · 30/03/2022 17:42

I have an April wedding to go to - first one in years and am planning to wear a silk midi length dress with some brand new smart flatform trainers in emerald green .

Came a cross a thread on here from 2018 and most posters were appalled at the idea Grin
What do people think - is this ok post pandemic or will I get there and feel judged ?

If relevant I am nobody at this event just a friend of the MoB and I had decided I would liberate myself from the tyranny of aching feet ! It's my first wedding where I have made the generation shift .. but don't want to look too middle aged and past it .

People have very fixed ideas about what is and isn't acceptable for weddings

I've never read the wedding dresscode guide so i say go for it

Or how about some more traditional shoes for the day and switch to trainers for eve?

MaudieandMe · 30/03/2022 20:27

Comfort first and foremost has always been my mantra since I was a kid.

The dress and trainers aren't my style but mainly because I'd never spend more than £50 on a dress, even for my own wedding. Grin

hungrymutha · 30/03/2022 20:28

Ooh just seen the pic. Not a fan OP. Are you super cool? The dress is nice bit trainers a bit grannyfied

loadofcrap10 · 30/03/2022 20:28

Of course it's OK! I got married last Saturday and we said on invites there was no formal dress code, come in what you want.
My nephew wore jeans and a heavy metal group tee shirt and two guests were in fancy dress.
It was bloody fantastic!!

sophienelisse · 30/03/2022 20:30

At a wedding I went to a few years ago the bride had bought a load of flip flops for the women as she said she wants people to be comfy and heels hurt your feet.

Everyone had a pair on by the night.

I think so long as your comfortable.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/03/2022 20:30

I can't see the trainers???

Unsure33 · 30/03/2022 20:31

Lovely dress and personally if they are smart new trainers I would not have a problem .

IglesiasPiggl · 30/03/2022 20:36

In these days of environmental consciousness, it is much better to wear an outfit and footwear that you will wear many times than to choose an outfit that barely gets used. Go for the trainers!

Just for you !

@Shinyandnew2022 is the wedding this weekend? If so I am going to one this weekend and my 17 year old DD is wearing trainers. She will look great, be comfy and wear them again unlike any heels as she has rubbishy bad feet!

dollydimple123 · 30/03/2022 20:38

Wear them! Sounds lovely, but different if it was a kappa tracksuit and reebok classics! I can't remember what footwear any of my wedding guests were wearing or being offended by it

SunshineAndFizz · 30/03/2022 20:43

I'm a bit traditional so trainers at a wedding is a no from me.

Hidden under a long maxi dress is one thing (and if you're the bride you can do whatever you like Smile), but this would be too casual.

peachgreen · 30/03/2022 20:45

I think flats are fine for a wedding but I personally wouldn't go for trainers, and I think people will notice.

ukborn · 30/03/2022 20:52

Why not wear comfortable flats?
My cousin wore trousers to my wedding and everyone commented afterwards (and it was a quite unique outfit, but trousers nevertheless).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/03/2022 20:52

@Shinyandnew2022 I still can 't see them?
Love your name btw.

MissMaple82 · 30/03/2022 20:55

Who gives a shiny shite, as long as you look presentable thats all that matters. Yes wear them, I think it sounds a lovely combo. I wouldn't be offended, but even if I was, so what. Just because it's a wedding doesn't mean anybody has the right to control what you feel comfortable in

DogsAndGin · 30/03/2022 20:56

Go for it

Thewheelsfalloffthebus · 30/03/2022 21:03

Team trainers here. High heels are torture devices. Whoever decided women should spend every formal event in pain from bad shoes was a misogynist.

MsRinky · 30/03/2022 21:03

I'm not wild about the style of the trainers, but think the green will pick up the leaves on the dress beautifully, and you'll be able to dance all night. I wouldn't bat an eye at pristine co-ordinated trainers at a wedding, it's not like rocking up in battered old plimsolls.

TheWatersofMarch · 30/03/2022 21:08

Yes to both. I think you have a fantastic style. You will look really well turned out. The trainers are more trainer style than trainers and I think they're gorgeous. Enjoy the wedding.

Charley50 · 30/03/2022 21:08

I live in trainers and there's some fabulous trainers out there, so it's a yes from me.

MsDastardley · 30/03/2022 21:11

They will look lovely. I would really class the as trainers! Chunky slip on shoes, and from Russell and Bromley so not street wear.

ArtVandalay · 30/03/2022 21:12

I love the dress and I love the trainers.

I think a few years back, this may have seemed too casual, but times and fashion have changed a lot.

You will look fab and infinitely cooler than any woman who will still be tottering about in dated heels (although I bet there won't be many).

mathanxiety · 30/03/2022 21:12

A big YES from me to the trainers with that dress.

You will look gorgeous. You will feel fabulous, and also comfortable.
