Trainers at a wedding in 2022

I have an April wedding to go to - first one in years and am planning to wear a silk midi length dress with some brand new smart flatform trainers in emerald green .

Came a cross a thread on here from 2018 and most posters were appalled at the idea Grin
What do people think - is this ok post pandemic or will I get there and feel judged ?

If relevant I am nobody at this event just a friend of the MoB and I had decided I would liberate myself from the tyranny of aching feet ! It's my first wedding where I have made the generation shift .. but don't want to look too middle aged and past it .

I'd say no, but then I guess it really just depends on the wedding and what the trainers actually look like.

Blossomtoes · 01/04/2022 08:45

Heels look oddly dated these days. I love the trainers and the dress @Shinyandnew2022. I really hope you’re wearing them because you’re going to look amazing.

BestIsWest · 01/04/2022 08:50

You’ve inspired me to order something similar for next week now.

Baxdream · 01/04/2022 08:57

Absolutely love that dress! I think it'll look fabulous together with the trainers.

KatyS36 · 01/04/2022 08:58

Stunning dress, stunning shoes, you will look fab. As you've explicitly stated the bridal party won't care its a firm yes from me. You'll look fresh, modern, stunning and someone I'd want to meet. Enjoy your day xx

Origamiheaven · 01/04/2022 09:07

Love the trainers with the dress. Go for it.

IwaswhoIam · 01/04/2022 09:24

It definitely depends on the wedding and your dress . I know plenty of brides who wear trainers so there’s that .

If you dress up in other ways it will look fine . A maxi dress , nice jewellery, makeup/hair/nails polished and a nice handbag will do wonders .

I have a slightly more casual dress I’m wearing to a wedding this weekend ( a cross between a day dress and an occasion dress ) but with nice heels and my hair styled etc it looks much fancier .

IwaswhoIam · 01/04/2022 09:26

I just saw your dress and the green shoes ! Love it ! It’s lovely !

ChaToilLeam · 01/04/2022 09:31

I’m not a fan of the trainer plus posh dress look. But really, if you like them and are going to be happy and comfortable in that outfit, go for it. Everyone will be looking at the bride anyway. Enjoy the day.

Lottapianos · 01/04/2022 09:39

Go for it OP. You will look great and feel so comfy. I think women who wear one pair of shoes for the day, and pack flat shoes for later need their heads examined.

I know some people are saying that trainers are inappropriate but they are super smart trainers, not your gym shoes! And what's the worst that can happen? Some people might look at your outfit and think 'oh dear, I wouldn't have worn those. Not for me'. That's it. Hardly the end of the world. I bet you get loads of envious comments about how comfy you look!

Suja1 · 01/04/2022 17:56

What's wrong with a good pair of trainers as long as they are in decent nick? They are comfortable and a must for me now that I have bunions. At a wedding my daughter went to this year the bride and bridesmaids were all wearing trainers. You can wear what you like.

Southwold1234 · 01/04/2022 18:07

That’s going to look brilliant! Ignore the negative comments. They’re on trend and comfortable! Win!l win!!

coffeeschmoffee · 01/04/2022 18:11

Yes! You'll look fab. Heels are so dated now. No-one wears them.

SirChenjins · 01/04/2022 18:16

Love the dress - but the trainers are really not attractive at all. Everyone will be looking at the bride though, so as long as you're comfy that's the main thing.

Sofasogood1 · 01/04/2022 18:22

You will look better than 90% of the other guests in their ill-fitting suits and boring pastel frocks. DO IT.

Anonymouslyposting · 01/04/2022 19:00

I think it’s fine depending on the vibe of the wedding - I wore trainers to my cousin’s wedding last year and to my own in 2018. At my cousin’s wedding I definitely wasn’t the only one.

BloodyRona · 01/04/2022 19:01

Absolutely not.

BloodyRona · 01/04/2022 19:02

The dress is lovely. The trainers are gopping.

Amaksy · 01/04/2022 19:09

I fear the styling may have influenced you a bit as the model is shown wearing trainers Smile

Tigofigo · 01/04/2022 19:30

Not RTFT but I've worn trainers to every wedding I've been to since 2015...

a1poshpaws · 01/04/2022 19:30

Oh sh*t now I have both dress envy - and that dress is totally out-with my budget - AND trainer envy! Envy How could you do that to me, OP?

And yes, yes, yes to wearing them together, they will look absolutely ACE.

Anyway, remember - look to your left - this is how you're going to feel, going forward! Okay? Wink

@Shinyandnew2022 I am a big fan of the R&B trainers and have 3 pairs in different colours - wear them almost daily. When in "new" condition they are smart and I think would be perfect with a lovely dress. I definitely would if I were you. I'm 46 if that helps.

1Wanda1 · 01/04/2022 19:33

Also love the dress btw! A great outfit I think.

Debbacat6 · 01/04/2022 20:15

No
Awful. Awful choice.
Get some ballet pumps or espadrilles instead
It's a wedding, not a netball match
If you're under 20 you can get away with it but if you're over.. forget it

Blossomtoes · 01/04/2022 20:24

Ballet pumps? They’re the epitome of frump.
